I think Paper_Conan's point is that she has gradient hair because all the purple kunai get stuck in it when she dissolves them right above her. Quite an interesting theory.

Three reasons fans use to explain things:
-Yukari is fooling around again.
-Eirin's shady new drug.
-Moriya Shrine conspoiracy.

Those three reasons involve Yukari, Eirin, and Kanako.

Who fans also consider the three "old hags."

Coincidence?

Yes, it's ZUN's fault that those three were deduced by the fan(s) to be the most likely to have caused an event.

Regarding Byakuren's mysterious gradient hair, I now realize/think that the brown hair was part of her regular human hair, and the purple hair is her new youkai hair that slowly grew out after she became immortal. She just never bothered to cut off the old brown part.

I like this theory. It explains why the gradient effect is there even when she doesn't have the scroll out, for one, but is also a nice artistic representation of her transformation from ordinary monk to unaging youkai.

"Human history and growth are both linked closely to strife. Without conflict, humanity would have no impetus for growth. When humans are satisfied with their present condition, they may as well give up on life."

I thought that was the common view.  :/

I think Sakuya stole from Cirno in stage 6 of EoSD. Perfect freeze before the freeze is a multicolored version of Sakuya's Eternal Meek. Coincidence? Probably.

They're both just bullets at random angles at random speeds. I think he just ran out of ideas and wanted something difficult to beat that wouldn't be hard to program.

I thought about mentioning that, but I couldn't think of any other spellcards that also did the "random highspeed barrage" bit.

Unless you count that one card Kanako has in MoF's extra stage where she shoots a random spray of lines of bullets.

Ah, that makes sense. It's just the fact that they're spellcards that I thought that.

It would be a concidence, but it needs more observation IMO

(sorry for the necro, but I figured this is one of those threads you can bump)

I was looking at an old HRtP run I did, and I noticed something that made my jaw drop. The backgrounds in Highly Responsive to Prayers were always rather surreal, but possibly because of that I never noticed something in the very first set of stages:

Look closely at the background, and you'll see an outline...
nintendonut888: Hey Baity. I beat the high score for Sanae B hard on the score.dat you sent me. X3
Baity: For a moment, I thought you broke 1.1billion. Upon looking at my score.dat, I can assume that you destroyed the score that is my failed (first!) 1cc attempt on my first day of playing. Congratulations.

Compare Hokkai's music with Makai's. Or was this already known? :/

I'm not sure what you're getting at. The songs sound nothing alike, though it is stated by ZUN he used a heartbeat effect in Fires of Hokkai he wanted to use in World's End but decided not to.

Kikuri's theme and Maiden's Capriccio sound a bit similiar at certain points.

Maiden's Capriccio is from Imperishable Night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6r_826wNorw :derp: Sorry, but I had to enlighten you.

As long as we're on the subject of songs with similar passages (not that that's the subject of the thread), the beginning of Blade of Banishment sounds somewhat similar to the beginning of Oriental Memory of Foregathering Dream. At least, as much as anything else does.

EDIT: Wow, talk about a hyperlink fail.

I noticed the Stage4 theme in Story of Eastern Wonderland sounds like the boss theme for Final Fantasy 6. At least the start of it.

Most of the color in Meiling's portraits isn't green. It's mostly comprised of dark shades of yellow. Combine it with her red hair motif and we get colors for the flag of the People's Republic of China. Sprites are undeniably green however.

IDK.

I just realized how much "Yuugi only playing around woth you, her sake NOT EVEN DROP" sounds like a line from Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff.

Now I'm wishing there was a SBaHJ-styled Touhou fancomic...unfortunately, it seems there's only one (warning: don't watch with headphones).

Just bringing this over from the "You know you're addicted ..." thread:

I decided to open up Mystic Square again. And I noticed a little something.

Louise, Stage 4 mid-boss, Mystic Square.

Murasa Minamitsu, 5-8, Double Spoiler.

Iryan noted that Louise and Murasa are even dressed in similar colors. I guess by now "ZUN brings back bits and pieces of PC-98 in his Windows games now and then" isn't a startling discovery, but this really made my day when I noticed it.

"Human history and growth are both linked closely to strife. Without conflict, humanity would have no impetus for growth. When humans are satisfied with their present condition, they may as well give up on life."
