EDIT: I can't even imagine Times Square right now.
Not Times Square but still Manhattan, my husband works in the West Village and is in range of 3 Pokestop from his desk which get lured very frequently.  He catches so much without getting off his butt meanwhile my town is full of rats, birds and bugs :fail:

On the other hand, the google account permissions are fixed... kind of :v If the app already has full access, you have to remove it and allow permissions again so that it only gets the basic account info.

I mean, it started from virtually nonfunctional, so I guess it's not THAT much worse.

Anecdotally I've been having WAY fewer server issues and way less trouble playing with gyms, so from my point of view things seem betteeeeer.

Huh. Well, that's... Sort of good? I mean, yeah, I guess that's good. BRB, fixing that shit.

Edit: According to Niantic's site users don't need to take any action and the permissions will sort themselves out. That article isn't dated though so maybe it's no longer the case?

^ The server issues may have dropped because all the PTC users can't log in anymore :V

When I logged in after the update, it prompted me with an "allow basic permissions" dialog box, but when I said yes and checked my account permissions, it still said that the app had full access. I was assuming that since the app had already had full access, it didn't bother downgrading to basic access since it was redundant? *shrug* But at least it's not a problem anymore.

The PTC logins crashed RIGHT as I was about to take a gym.

Fuck you, Niantic. Fuck. You.

Turns out there are 3 pokestops in the 20-minute walk between my house and a friend's (graffiti on a garage, a statue and some mushroom-painted air vents), and capturing, transferring, powering up and evolving have done alright for a single day. Looking forward to taking this down to the harbor tomorrow.

Just got back from a Pokemon adventure around my neighborhood. Here's what I found:

-I caught a 531 CP Scyther, which is not too far below my strongest Pokemon.

-I captured a gym from yellow team and left my Aerodactyl there, but by the time I had run a circuit of the three gyms in the area (the other two of which are firmly controlled by blue team already but not close to accepting new members) it had already been taken back.

-The game gleeched out on two semi-important captures (a weak Eevee and a very strong Gastly) with the game freezing on the Pokeball right after the capture, but upon rebooting I found that it let me keep the Pokemon.

-I'm running out of extra incubators and could really use some gym cash as a means to get more incubators. Hatched a lot of Pidgeys.
I made a PADHerder. It's probably out of date though.

Actually, a caffeine shot or two might not be a bad thing to pack, while on a longer PokeStop run.

I really really like this game but the mosquito bites are a bit out of hand, as my friend said, couldn't they have released in Fall?

My bus ride to work took me to 5 at last. For a country where the game hasn't even been officially released yet, this town is lousy with pok?stops and random wild pok?mons. And being an old-school Lutheran country where even the most desolate podunk villages get a church, there are gyms everywhere.

Some shots of my bus ride into town - notice the rapidly increasing concentration of stops (pop: ~120,000):

And just for fun, here's some of Iceland's pok?stops:

I will try to screenshot some of the more interesting stops as they arise. There's a metric shit-ton of them in a park close to my home.

Glass Domes looks straight outta Teletubbies.

Niantic have done a good job upgrading the servers aside from the login problem (lol), but is there anything important in client-side v1.01?

Essentially it makes the game playable. Gyms have been fixed (ish), Google BS has been fixed, PTC accounts can actually log in properly, and it makes login less repetitive.

Here's a few more Icelandic Pok?stops. Turns out there's one right next to my office window, too, which is pretty damn convenient.

And my personal favorite:

That moment when your 10km egg says 10km/10km when you get back to your house but when you click it it actually says 9.97km walked

Cue me running up and down my sidewalk like poor egg runners would do in the games

240cp / 35hp / 19 candies / rock smash(it hatched with an HM move?!?) / thunderpunch

hitmonchan is indeed cool, but it's not fat chansey

just look at how perfectly found and fat it is

(it hatched with an HM move?!?)

Moves match up to their Pokemon counterparts in name and type only. You can spam Sucker Punch on a Pokemon who isn't attacking too.

Also, isn't Rock Smash not an HM in some games? I want to say I vaguely remember a few odd cases of Pokemon being able to learn it by leveling up.

Hey, I caught one of them yesterday!

After one full day of hunting, this is what I got (having powered up a couple and evolved three) - don't know how good this is but I must've given the Professor a dozen Weedles:
