So I had to wait until this morning to start to see if a certain something was true.

Apparently it is.

Did anyone else have trouble putting their name in and have like everything be taken?
Yep.  Part of it is that if the servers are down it gives you the name taken info.  Part of it is their name database overlaps with Ingress, so... yeah.

I ended up using my real name as every variant of IcedFairy was either taken or happened during server crash.  Fortunately I'm the only person with my real name.

Tinder already drinks my battery like a frat boy chugging a 40, so I'm pretty reluctant to run this, as much fun as it looks.

Further adding to my curiosity is to see what I run into if I go, say, up into the Highlands near a glacier.

So far I'm observing a 0% server uptime over four hours today. Impressive, honestly

Today I found out I don't get GPS at all. The approximations I have are pretty shitty and apparently it's because it's o.ly based on other networks. FML.

Yeah, yesterday I was sitting in the back room of a game store playing Magic well away from the street but the game still barely let me reach the nearby stops and grind the shit out of them without really doing anything. And a local whale had kindly put an Attract Module on one of them so I was being swarmed by Drowzee and Taurus the whole time.

Sitting on a park bench watching people do loops of the six spots here. Finally managed to put a defender in a gym and got my ten coins.  I had to level the gym to make a spot for myself but the place isn't really accessible from a car so I think it will be a steady source of coins.  My Eevee luck has dried up and I really need an evolved one because I'd like to be on the other end of aqua tail.

Edit: it may be placebo but I got better performance out of my phone in the 100f heat when I took the case off

Found this lil' cutie in the parking lot of my building. I wish I had a cool AR shot of it sitting on the trunk of my car, but the AR still inexplicably doesn't work with my camera, so no dice.

It's extra small, so it's a Pocket Puff.

I went camping this weekend and my battery died three times because of this game. I've learned from that, and I now have 3 external batteries charging near my desk, along with an iPad to test tether play, which worked horribly in Ingress, and so will likely not work here either.

Anyways, during that trip, I hit level 5, and now I intend to last as long as I can as a teamless player. I'll see how that goes, not being able to use gyms and all.

Yeah, XL and XS Pokemon are sprinkled in with the rest and have stats to match. Rumor is that it doesn't actually effect anything except certain achievements, but nobody actually knows. Because none of the mechanics in this game are actually explained anywhere.

Maybe this game will actually have a legitimate story that will explain all of that. That'd be cool. Oh, and the weight probably does matter, for moves whose names I forget that calculate damage based on weight classes. Just about every Pokemon I catch is XL.

Literally every large city has a dozen or more PokeStops. Not sure what country you live in, but I only have to go 10 minutes away to farm items.

i live in connecticut

aka suburban hell where like 10 minutes for you (Which is a super generous distance tbh) is generally like double to triple in length due to the fact we don't have streamlined areas and such

my options for pokestop is literally find a way into the center of town (Which walking would be like....generously 30 minutes probably more and all fucking off-road with no sidewalks because jfc) l i t e r a l l y h i k i n g across the beach while low tide which is far more of a task than just a 10 minute walk nb, or a single graveyard like, 15 minutes down the road that i'm not sure if it's actually a gym or not which would end me

there is a lot to say about how this system is obviously disadvantageous to me tbh

in short, i have a bad location for this game.

That isn't a real argument here.

I will be fucking shocked if that turns out to be true. This game is waaaay too simple to have damage calculation like that. I hope they prove me wrong I guess, but that would be really out of place.

You're right, actually. I live in Washington, to the north side of Seattle. I was actually thinking about a route to the start of my city's downtown area, which is ten minutes away by bike (which, given my group of friends, is likely what I'd do), but there's actually a large cluster about five minutes closer (also by bike).

That isn't a real argument here.

Click here and log in via Google; check around your vicinity. Ingress and Pokemon Go use almost all of the same locations, so just look for a cluster, and see how far away it is. Connecticut is just a bit less paved, though, so I see your point. I only ever go to places with decent roads (except San Francisco and even then), so I wouldn't know your pain.

EDIT:
a single graveyard

I hate that so much, when the only nearby stops are in graveyards. I feel so... imposing playing Pokemon Go in a graveyard.

I will be fucking shocked if that turns out to be true. This game is waaaay too simple to have damage calculation like that. I hope they prove me wrong I guess, but that would be really out of place.

It's a legit move that Wailord has. It's called... let's see... Heavy Slam.

Level Learned: 70
Type: Steel
Category: Physical
Attack Power: ??
Accuracy: 100
PP: 10
The user slams into the target with its heavy body. The more the user outweighs the target, the greater its damage.

EDIT2:
Oh, did you think I meant that that was part of general calculation? Because that would be dumb, I agree.

Just got back from a basically all-day excursion with my friend, got to Level 5 and joined Team Red and discovered at my house is apparently Pallet Town, with everyone and everything at about one-half the CP from where he lives for some reason.

bruh why does everyone have the balloons but me

Jigglypuff is 5.5kg, so yours is almost half the weight of one, and approximately 2 and a half igglybuffs worth.

bruh i would not be talking about 30 minute away clusters if I didn't already know about that.

It's also actually not accurate completely to go.

So that cemetary pokestop.... is... not actually there, and the pokestop that IS there is not actually on the map.

I'm not sure if the water-side stops are either, ESPECIALLY if I did not notice them while down at the beach.

So my situation might actually be even worse.

Yeah, I know Heavy Slam is a move, but you're taking that text from an entirely different game. Pokemon and Pokemon Go are not the same game.

They may not be, but they use a lot of the same moves, so it's not an entirely unsafe bet to make, that they also use similar move calculations, even if they're not identical calcs.

I have seen no evidence to back that assumption up, but the game just won't let me play in gyms 90% of the time. Has anybody seen any evidence that moves have properties other than type, attack speed, and damage? Has anyone seen any status or multi-hit moves or anything?

I had to look this up because while my friend and I were driving in at a movie theater someone dropped lures at, apparently the refresh time for a pokestop is a mere five minutes. This might be something to look at considering there's only one pokestop where I live  :ohdear:

Not clear if double resistance or quadruple effectiveness are things. I've got a Parasect that I intend to level (because the local meta seems to be Hypnos and Vaporeons and it's super effective against both) so I'll see how it fares against Pidgeots.

Dropped off my Hypno (which is my best Pokemon right now) in a gym earlier. It's right in the middle of a busy shopping mall so it may not last, but I wanted to give it a try.

By the way, are gyms overwhelmingly blue everywhere or just here? I think only a single gym I saw today wasn't blue. Is team blue way more populated than the others or do we just have one crazy local Wailord going nuts on every gym in town?

Yeah even in my areas, blue has a strong following, followed by red, and then yellow. Blue has all of the people from Ingress, or so I hear. Red, at least in my state, has pretty much all of the smash players who have phones. And then there's yellow. I think I might join yellow for that reason. I'm not touching gyms until a) Niantic has fixed them, and b) I know the team demographics here.

Oh! I found yet another glitch! When I try to view any Pokedex entry except Bulbasaur my game freaks the fuck out and the text and model starts vibrating and rapidly scrolling through entries until it gets back to the start. Can anyone else confirm if the Pokedex works for them?

Haven't really had much of the problems mentioned in here, other than battery. Ran into someone that runs this game and it seems like things like trading is a couple weeks away. I'm left to wonder why Nintendo wanted to pull the trigger so fast, unless that APK someone made that I've been hearing about forced them to release faster than they planned...

As far as Pokemon are concerned, seem to be seeing quite a few Clefairy, Eevees and Jigglypuff along with the usual forest pokemon. The game's been taunting me with some ground/rock types and Vulpix (really want) far away, they always show up while I'm on shift or working at the house.

However, things got interesting this morning when a Dragonite decided to go shopping in the gas station while I was on shift... :3 Also, I think the local teams are mostly yellow so far, there's a group of them nearby I'm joining with.

Today I got up at 8AM. The first thing I did was throw on my clothes and running shoes and go noclip into some bushes for pokeballs. I should probably also note that this is the only pokestop from my house for miles.

The picture above is how far I can walk before I'm impeded by the bushes. The picture below is what I get if I push into them and stretch my hand out with phone held towards the wall. WTB HM01.

For the record, I went there into the neighborhood proper to actually see what it was like on the other side of the wall. It's not much better. Gross-ass weeds everywhere and nowhere to sit.

According to the two eggs I hatched, I walked about 3KM total, and I got something interesting for my troubles...

Does anyone know what comes out of 10KM eggs? I heard they're pretty rare.
