This looks really good. It's kind of blatant how similar this is to Megaman, but it's Inafune, so it's fine.

I'd go for the $250 prize if I had the money, but since I don't have anywhere near that amount, I'll just go for the $60 or the $99 if I can.

EDIT: Holy crap, someone already donated $10,000.

The title is Mighty No. 9 for chrissakes.

Classic, X, Zero, ZX, ZXA, Legends, EXE, SF.  Yes, counting ZX and ZXA as separate since they had separate Mega Men, X-Over sucked and also Inafune had nothing to do with it so this is essentially Inafune's ninth Mega Man.

Or Mega No. 9 if you prefer your sledgehammer with less subtlety.

<Tengukami> Merging for the art!

From the minds that brought you Mega Man... It's Shmega Man Mega Kirby Mighty No. 9!

Mighty No. 9 is a side-scrolling action game in which you play the role of Beck, a humanoid robot with a cannon for an arm and the completely, totally unique power to steal his foes' abilities. Beck is one of a series of industrial robots, most of whom have revolted against humanity (you might say they went, ahem, maverick), and now it's his job to put a stop to them by facing them as boss characters at the end of themed stages challenged in the order of the player's choosing.

You see, Mighty No. 9 is like a man, but with extraordinary traits and abilities.

A sort of... Mega... Man... if you will.

Beck will presumably be assisted by these two female characters who are totally not Roll and Aero, as well as a transforming dog-ish character who is totally not Rush and another character who is totally not Eddie.

Ribbing aside, I am pretty fucking hype for this. Apparently the release is slated for a year and a half from now. Can't come soon enough.

rofl he's gonna make his megaman games one way or another

And yeah, looks gorgeous. Not sure if it's 2D or 3D, getting hard to tell nowadays.

Want to see some gameplay, but I think we know what to expect.

I know, I was just saying that it was really obvious that it's inspired by Megaman. And I'm totally fine with that, since pretty much all of the devs had a role in making Megaman games.

Is this actually legal? I mean, it's obvious that everything about this project is pretty much a Megaman facsimile. Aren't Capcom entitled to step on Inafune's face for this? [Not that I want them to, this project looks badass, but it just seems like he's treading really dangerous ground here.]

I know it probably won't happen but if this fails I'm going to laugh so hard because it will totally justify Capcom's decision to stop making Mega Man games.

This exactly what I'm worried of. As JT pointed out above, the characters are dangerously similar to the Megaman cast (Beck at least differs a bit from Rock, but the Roll and Rush counterparts are almost mirror images). Sure, they were Inafune's creations in the first place, but Capcom still has the copyright. Capcom could decide to be jerks and put a halt to a project, waving copyright infringement around.
I really hope this gets off the ground without anything like that happening. :ohdear:

By the way, did anyone else notice the blond Roll look-a-like walking a Rush-like poodle in the real life segments of the trailer, or the Metool construction worker? :V

THIS is HOW Megaman SHOULD'VE been when it ENTERED the 6th - 7th Gen Consoles.

3D is a no-no(even though I played almost all of them all the way through).

Though I hope this doesn't get sued even if it's by Inafune.

The funniest thing about this thing is that Inafume is pretty much copying himself. Aside of No. 9 (who outside of looking like heavily armored MegaMan, seems to have move like X's Giga Attack), the two robot girls look like Roll with Rush and Aero with Eddie. Few of the enemy concepts look like Bladers, Mets and Sniper Joes. Heck, one of concept art showing different human characters has one what to me looks like Dr. Weil.

Inafune on Capcom sueing him: "That's saying my work looks like my work."

He's not too concerned. I'm hoping Capcom won't do a thing but they will probably try. Still hoping for Mighty No 9 to go through... :#

Am I the only person who thinks a 3D Mega Man would work if it had controls similar to Ratchet and Clank?

Either way, I'm keeping my eyes on this.

Megaman Legends version of 3D gameplay was 10x better than Megaman X's version.

I don't expect Capcom's too eager to make a move here. As inept as some of their recent decisions can be, I think they're aware of the cost-benefit ratio of gunning for one of their former star creators and earning the unending ire of a fanbase that's already leaning against them.

Really looking forward to this project, and how Inafune and the rest of the team evolve the famous gameplay formula.
