Windows 7 is barely any faster than Vista (if at all). Upgrade your hardware instead.
Having used both OSes, this is partly true, hence why I also recommended a format and clean install to eradicate all the bloatware that lags most Windows systems. I did this on a Vista-loaded Inspiron when 7 came out and it worked much better after said procedure, even with Aero fully loaded.
It also adds a couple of pointless annoyances that Vista doesn't have that can make just switching between windows rather more annoying. Especially when you accidentally CLOSE a window while trying to select it because of the stupid menu that comes up when your cursor isn't COMPLETELY still while clicking <.<
Never had that issue, even in Aero mode with all the gimmicks enabled. Other than UAC and the missing Classic Start Menu (the one thing Vista did better), 7 really isn't that annoying IMO.
Downgrade to XP if your computer is too slow.
If you have enough money, I suggest you invest in a hard drive with 7200 rpm or more.
If your computer is still slow, then you should consider saving for a new box~
XP is still good, but expect a bunch of legacy peripheral issues (as was the case when I tried making a 7-XP-Fedora boot this week).
Alternatively, go Mac or Linux and use Windows in a VM.Solid-state drives (SSDs) are significantly better for your money if you don't need that much space. I have used dual Crucial M225s in my MacBook Pro, and it's
very hard to look back at slower mechanical drives.
If disk space is more important, try looking for a higher-capacity 7200RPM drive (higher capacities = higher speeds in hard drives), or (for PC laptops) a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT (has a bit of SSD cache to speed up operations).
I consider new systems as a last resort. Most people's computers should be plenty for their needs for at least 2 years.
MoF MarisaB shot power + MoF ReimuC option shot speed and firerate + IN Yuyuko shot coverage (+ SA ReimuC if you want movespeed) + EoSD MarisaB bomb's power (or arguably SoEW ReimuC's, which hurts like a hadouken from SF1) + SA ReimuA's bomb invulnerability time = ultimate survival loli based on what the past games had :p (more survival if you want to add Youmu's charge attack from PoFV or Cirno's freeze in GFW -- Aya's camera takes a bit of time to refill, you would be better off using Youmu's lvl 1 charge or shooting or charging ice; let's not forget Marisa's chargeup speed too and Tewi's autobomb). Before I forget, shots would level up like they do in GFW.
meanwhile..
PoDD Elly's shot power + SA ReimuB option firerate + MoF MarisaC option range + PoDD Elly/PoFV Youmu shot coverage + PoFV Yuka / PoDD Elly's movespeed + EoSD ReimuB's bomb power and invulnerability time + MoF/SA's powerup based bombing = ultimate challenge loli (once again, based on what the games have given so far)
All of a sudden I think Touhou games (or fangames, at least) should implement a customization system. Problem with this is that it will probably lead to trade requests, item sets,
idle/trade servers, and a bazillion hats that make Touhou even more similar to Trade Fortress 2.
