Halloween mini contest thingy
« on: October 18, 2013, 03:31:29 AM »

Halloween Contest!

I just decided to make this, even though RaNGE10 just got over, but soon it's Halloween so there should be spooktacular scripts!
This will be judged, but it shouldn't be too bad... right?

-Minimum of one non-card and one spell. Easy. You can do more, but no more than 4 of  each.(4 non-card and 4 spells).
-Must be dark. No rainbow backgrounds and smiley faces.(Rainbow danmaku is perfectly fine!).
-Halloween themed: disguises, things people would be scared of, and other Halloween-ish things will work.
-Even a joke script will work!
-Any character will work, doesn't have to be a Touhou.
-Keep in mind it has to be playable to MOST people.
- Effects and Patterns are about the same in this, but patterns slightly out rules effects.

Remember, this contest is nothing serious, it's just to have some coding fun for Halloween.

Deadline will be November 1st , most of you will probably get done before, but the longer it is, the more points.
Have fun~

WTF. That was uber fast.

Note: I don't know if I'll participate. It depends on how much attention it gets.

Edit: Also, I hope that quality is still > quantity.

Just a question, who are the judges?
I might pass on this one again. I don't have enough time to make a script, but I can be a judge if you still need one.

I'm in a similar situation, and I'm willing to judge if you want me to. That is, if I'm allowed to judge. I did test play an early version of Talos's Seija and I gave feedback (this was before I considered being a judge),  (but I'm pretty sure the only thing I complained about, and the only thing he changed because of me, was the name of the 1st Spell Card). Then I expressed that I liked the script and addressed some aspects of it that I liked, such as the clever use of the flipping. I don't recall that there was much discussion about the script.

This Halloween entry is actually pretty good.

But yes. Find a way to delete the effects (ask Ozzy, Talos, Fondue, or someone else; this is a very common ph3 problem). And that last attack ends with some weird extra lifebar. Don't know why.

I look forward to making a video of this. Once it's been fixed up a bit.

Thanks,
I 've been struggling for the past two days on trying to get rid of that effect, and if (or should I say once) I find a way to get rid of it, I'll be sure to post another version on Bulletforge. Till then...

Code: [Select]
SetAutoDeleteObject
Arguments:
    1) Boolean
Determines whether to delete all existing objects that were created in the script at its termination.
The default value is false.
Not sure if it works since I haven't really looked into how you did your effects, but this is what I mostly play around with.

THANK. YOU. SO. MUCH! I feel really stupid now, but thank you!
Now I'll be making a few tweaks and fixing the issue. It should all be done by the end of today.

EDIT: Sorry if this ends up becoming a "Help Me!" Post, but is there a function that works exactly like SetAutoDeleteObject but for a single object? Using SetAutoDeleteObject causes everything to vanish when one spellcard/nonspell is beaten.

YAY! I did it! All I needed to do was make sure that the loop only carried out while the boss was alive, similar to Ultima's idea. The problem was, I moved the loop checking if the boss was alive so it could fire after the loop, to after the loop, meaning that the whole loop would still carry out afterwards, even if the boss died, and would only stop once the loop had carried out. Don't worry though, the problem is being fixed and the link will be up hopefully today, latest tomorrow. Thank you everyone!!!!

I don't really see why it would cause everything to vanish.

You could always try using different script files for creating lasting visuals. For example, the system scripts.
(I'm not really sure actually how to do it without system scripts. Anyone who knows how to replicate it on command?)

Since scripts like the system scripts are played without the control of the single scripts, the tasks would still function even after the single script ends.
The problem here may be that you end the script before your tasks get the chance to check anything. It could possibly be fixed by deleting existing task-style objects manually in the script_end code to prevent some effects that may get stuck and look ugly, but I have no idea how to do it in a pleasant way.

Easiest solution:
- SetAutoDelete for lolspameffects.
- System (or similair?) scripts for lasting effects.

FINAL Version - http://www.bulletforge.org/u/spectral-nexus/p/mini-halloween-contest-entry/v/v12

Made the Background 3D-ish, fixed the crappy concentration and death effects, though they're still crappy. This has to be the final version, as they're isn't enough time to make any more tweaks.
P.S Sparen, you don't need to re-record your playthrough as there aren't any danmaku changes. My apologies are on BulletForge :V .
