Yeah, I think the spikey spirit things are more akin to traditional powerups. Check the amount of them in the second Marisa pic, as well as the timer, background, and general super shots.

You know this is starting to sound like that weird plot I had in my head. Basically some youkai is mourning or something/decides to get revenge and releases Spirits to attack people. Most of the game took place in a cemetery.

  I've added a few things that will make the game system a bit more complicated in order to keep the difficulty level down a bit.

  One of my goals is to make it fun to just beat all the enemies even on lower difficulty levels, so I'm releasing a trial version to see how it went.

To be honest, there's too little out right now to really make a judgment. Perhaps we'll know or have an idea once the demo comes out?

OK, getting the full translation of what he's talking about, it looks like there is indeed going to be some nifty new mechanics added to the game. Which I'm also down with. I was just missing a six-stage we-have-to-solve-the-incident shooter. An underworld theme is pretty fitting for 13, too.

Bakebake ghosts are the PC-98 enemies. They have a giant tongue coming out their mouth and were pretty much cannon fodder... but they were awesome cannon fodder. Why? It didn't matter how many of their number you killed, it didn't matter how threatening you were. They would just keep coming with their smug faces, as if all your efforts, all your victories, all your battles were for nothing. Because they knew passed your flying turtles, your spellcards, your giant yin yang orb... you were nothing.

... Thus why they must make their return.
