Long-time readers of news here should already know the background: Ichijinsha is the publisher of the Touhou worldbuilding books, the Bougetsushou saga, and presently Touhou Ibarakasen ~ WaHH. However, Ichijinsha's ability to do so heavily depended on ZUN's trust for their editor Okonogi Tetsurō. Last year Okonogi had been poached by Dengeki Maou, a Kadokawa Group magazine, bringing the ZUN partnership with him. While Ichijinsha has continued to publish WaHH, they had practically lost any chance of getting their hands on new Touhou titles, while Okonogi was able to start the official Touhou magazine at Kadokawa.
What we are now waiting to see is Kodansha's handling of the Touhou brand. Will they finally kill the Febri magazine and WaHH with it? Or will they try to renew their ties to ZUN?
Some
sources claim the previous largest shareholder of Ichijinsha was
Dai Nippon Printing, who rescued the struggling company in 2010. There's no reason not to trust them, but this piece of information seems hard to verify.
