Just woke up from my sleep by my roommate... IN THE MIDST OF A TOUHOU DREAM
This one... this one was pretty damn vivid. I could basically hear everything and feel everything (including pain, cold, and all emotions) in this dream - only that this dream was some kind of RPG of itself!
OK, so here goes: I'm dreaming about myself playing an RPG of Touhou. The game is set in Gensokyo, where all our dear 2hus gather in a wood having a party. The game's protagonist is Sanae (yay!
), and during the party, she decides to wander off on her own to enjoy the scenery, whereupon she arrives at a section in the woods that look really suspicious to her: Plants that she has never seen growing in Gensokyo are there, and it seems to be crawling with some kind of deadly creatures. She starts feeling that something's wrong and walks in - only to find the plants starting to attack her! (I think this part was kind of like the tutorial to the game) Upon reaching this part, I take control of Sanae - by actually becoming the goddess herself
So what kind of plants do we have over here? There are these weird stripe shaped plants that you see sometimes in office buildings growing on the ground, and when you move close to it, it will suddenly extend out its leaves and wrap around your limbs tightly. Get enough of these wrapped around your body, and they'll try to rip your limbs apart. I was able to get them off by using melee attack (in the game). And then a cutscene appears where Sanae blacks out.
Upon waking up, she realizes that the entire forest is infested with all these plants and weird creatures. At this point, the game music changes to something a bit creepier than the gentle music that was played earlier. Thinking about the others, she goes back to where the party was held, only to see that the entire place is deserted and signs of fighting going on - blood, torn up plants, and dead creatures. I couldn't see what Sanae looked like at that point since I was controlling her by being her, but I could tell you she was feeling angry - pretty damn angry. She keeps searching through the forest and encounters more of the plants I described earlier and other creatures - a spider that looks almost like a certain pinecone, falling pine tree leaves, and vines growing on the ground. The spider jumps on you and stings you with this EXTREMELY PAINFUL venom (I could feel the pain and it was comparable to cutting your hand on glass) but what makes it worse is that even after killing the spider the venom is there, and the only way to remove the venom is by pulling out the sting of the spider which was more painful than getting stung; the pine tree leaves fall normally when you don't get close to them, but getting close enough will make them dart at you and sting you badly; the vines on the ground will try to whack you (and getting hit by one feels like getting hit by a baseball bat). And then I manage to reach some kind of boss flower that looked eerily similar to the
midboss of stage 1. But even before I can deal decent amount of damage to it I got killed by its vines... in quite a gruesome way that I won't describe here (hint: Play Dead Space 2). Poor Sanae
I got to continue from a certain check point, and I went down another route, getting stung by spiders and pine leaves all the way x_x then a cutscene emerges: Everything goes pitch black, and I see a quick flash of a streak of light before me, and then I hear Youmu's voice: "Sanae-san, Sanae-san! Tasukete ageru wa! (I'll help you!)" So, here, she is implied to be dead (as found out later by the discovery of her remains) and I earn the special ability of being able to cut down all plant enemies upon contact (SWEET! No more spider stings, no more weird limb-tearing plants, and no more pine leaves!) Just before I triggered the boss fight again, I decided to grind Sanae up a bit by killing all the plants that kept spawning, and then my roommate woke up with his trying to fix his rusted window
Oh god what a dream. Somebody should seriously recreate this game. Now for the game music. So the initial opening scene game music it was mostly simple, gentle violin music. But upon reaching the point where she blacks out and wakes up, the game music changes into some kind of creepy music, which was kind of like a crossover between
Demons on the Prey from Doom 1 and the following notes played with heavy sounding violas and cellos (the x in the note correspond to no notes played for that point)
b flat - x - b flat (1 octave lower) - x - b flat - b flat - b flat - b flat - a - x - a (1 octave higher) - x - a - x - a (1 octave lower) - x - repeat this part.
So basically it was that part and a little bit of Demons on the Prey being played, and since I knew that it was Demons on the Prey being played, I was like "oh no is Gensokyo being invaded by hellspawns or something?" oh well, what a dream indeed :3
