First post is cleaned up and our thread is now linked at the wikipedia. Since we dropped hamachi, there is no use for it anymore in the first post.

Just. no. D:

I'm also a DotA player and it kinda pisses me off when someone does this in the late game. (especially when I'm trying my best defending the base with all my might and stuff.)

Don't really want to start a DotA discussion, but I feel the need to give my opinion. Backdoor may be taboo, but it is a pretty useful winning technique. It is even allowed in the rules (except for teleporting backdoor). It is capable of turning the tables of any match, which is probably why it has hate.

We had this discussion a lot of on IRC and opinions differ.

Generally speaking about backdooring in strategy games. It is (no doubt) a very effective method to either mess up the enemy in various ways. It can turn the ties around if you execute it proper, how ever in dots we have seen it fail as well. But that totally depends on the game itself. I have used backdooring in Age of Empires 1 as well. By cutting away trees in the back of the enemy base, I could invade their villagers and houses. In Age of empires death match, losing houses/villagers equals almost to losing the game and leads 90% of the cases to instant victory (due to resign).

I think it has to be decided between both teams and players, whether to play the game by moral standards (no backdooring in any form). I myself, would not approve it. Not in Dots because you cannot build a wall or place guards there to protect something (In Age of empires you can)

Legit technique doesn't make it socially acceptable.

I haven't seen it done before, so can somebody explain exactly what backdooring constitutes? I understand that you slip a yukkuri through a juke lane or something like that and teleport to it to get in, but it doesn't actually allow you to circumvent any defenses since each building is invincible until the one before it is destroyed. What's so jerk about it?

Sadly you cant tele in from your yukkuri only yukari and kaguya. But usually what backdoor means is going ahead w/o creeps amd attack or destroying a tower. Alice and rin are pros at that

Well let's say that it's near the end of the game, both players have raxes done, it's only the shrines.  One of the teams makes a push and while it's looking good, suddenly they lose because someone decided to backdoor them.  That is really frustrating to see.

To put it in real warfare, it's like attacking the small villages, poisoning water, or donning enemy uniforms.  It's just something you don't do.

As for my opinion on backdooring, in rare few cases it might be acceptable, such as hour thirty+ games, but most of the time?  No... And I'd prefer if towers were able to hurt clones for Siki's ult, because a good Siki player will make an invincible clone that can probably do halfway health before the opponent is actually able to hurt himself enough to make the clone disappear.  That REALLY cheeses me off.

Could be a yukkuri and teleporting to take down a shrine/tower while everybody is somewhere else. Could be ignoring entire brawl and all lanes and sneak past all creeps and attack the towers.

The worst backdoors are Yukari's mass teleport to enemy towers while the enemy is dead. Ignoring the lanes. Or as Kaguya use gap generator to yukkuri > Eirin Eirin your allies to you to attack. Impossible for the enemy to respond in time if they are dead or outnumbered.

Yea, you can think of many other methods.

Edit:
Dular kind of explained it well.

Enemy tower hug, get damage > lose clone > win.

The exact game Dular was citing was when Hakurei had the advantage on us, and they pretty much pushed us back to our rax.

Siki (panda) comes and clones Komachi (Dular) and since the enemy tower was all the way on the other end of the map, and enemies were way too far, there was not much we could do about it.

You can gap to a shared yukkuri, can't you? At least it was possibles on old versions.

Well, I am totally against bd and started a discussion about bd on the brazilian touhou forum, on the dots game play thread because people here made some fucking lame bds and says that its normal... so maybe if the knew about the opinion of different people they'd understand things better... oh well =/
