> Head inside one of the taverns or bars to read: no sense in reading in the dark and cold.
> Read about the addition to the Myouren Temple, then the ghost incident and the New Year's Article. Then, look at the gallery.

> You head into one of the taverns and take a seat on the most comfortable-looking chair you can find.  Then, you start to read.

> As of last week, the Myouren Temple has expanded by one more member.  Local mouse youkai Nazrin has reportedly discovered and brought back a yamabiko last week from the abandoned mountain ranges on the outskirts of Gensokyo while out scavenging.  The yamabiko youkai is a benevolent youkai that isn't seen too often in those types of areas, so she was welcomed into the temple with open arms.  Being very eager to follow Buddhist monk Hijiri Byakuren's ideals of peace, she joined willingly.  This yamabiko, known as Kasodani Kyouko, can be seen sweeping in front of the Myouren Temple early in the morning if you want to stop by and say hello, although expect a lot of things you say repeated back to you.  Stay tuned next issue for an interview!
> There's a picture of a blue-haired girl in a pink dress and brown ears...puppy ears?  You're not sure.  She's standing in front of the temple next to Hijiri Byakuren, a tall woman with gradient hair and black and white clothes.
> You then switch over to the Kakashi Spirit News and check out the ghost incident article.

> Those who view the Former Hell as being mysterious or even unheard may be happy to hear that yes, even they get incidents.  Traversing down there revealed a whole horde of ghosts flocking around the city for no apparent reason.  These were ghosts from Hakugyokurou, and they were eventually returned safely home owing to Kochiya Sanae of the Moriya Shrine's efforts.  Kaenbyou Rin of the Palace of the Earth Spirits informed us that while there were troubles with the evil spirits along the way, she has managed to keep them in line with Hakurei Reimu of the Hakurei Shrine's help.
> "Help," she says.  Pft.
> While these ghosts are safely at home in Hakugyokurou, there are still many things about this incident shrouded in mystery: why were these ghosts here?  What compelled them to travel to the deepest depths of the earth?  There were reports from oni about red jellyfish sightings, although we were regrettably unable to capture any photos of them.  While this incident is, for the most part, over, there are still things that may never be truly known, as is with every incident.
> So there really were red jellyfish?  Hatate doesn't seem to know, either.
> You switch to the New Year's article.

> A very chaotic year finally came to an end as the New Year bells rang throughout Gensokyo, and humans and youkai alike flocked to shrines and temples wishing for a more prosperous year.  The Myouren Temple hosted an easy-to-access New Year's event for the Human Village, while the residents of Youkai Mountain made a pilgrimage to the Moriya Shrine.

When I went to the Hakurei Shrine, I found Hakurei Reimu, the shrine's shrine maiden, performing a dance to invite in a good year and ward off evil.

"We've had a rough year.  We can't take any chances, so it's time to set the past behind us and pray that the future will be more promising," Reimu said when I asked her what she thought.  It looks like everyone's holding their breath this time around!

> Somehow, the Day of Kikuri made everyone's faith rise sharply.  Funny, considering Kikuri herself is a goddess...

> You take a look at the gallery.  There are a few pictures of the yamabiko and members of the Myouren Temple in one section, either going about their daily business or, in Byakuren's case, participating in meditation sessions.  There are a few pictures of the radio tower, and you even see a picture of Daiyousei in one of them.  There's also a small section dedicated to the ghost incident, although it's mostly just pictures of the Ancient City or Palace of the Earth Spirits with ghosts in them.  Humorously enough, there's a single picture of Utsuho flying towards the camera.  It's actually a pretty good shot.  Other pictures include scenes from the New Year events held at the Moriya Shrine and Myouren Temple, as well as Reimu's warding-off-of-evil dance.  She looks really sophisticated there.

> What sort of rituals do we perform at the Moriya shrine? Do we dance, too?
> Go ahead and read the stories about the radio tower, see what sort of differences there are between the two.

> You dance, pass out fortunes, greet people, help lead prayers, etc.
> You look at the Bunbunmaru's article on the radio tower.

> To humans, the Forest of Magic is host to many secrets.  However, a discovery was recently made that went, for a long time, unknown to all of Gensokyo's residents save for the most unlikely: the humble faerie.  On request from the curious magicians Kirisame Marisa and Alice Margatroid of the Forest of Magic, I set off to investigate what sounded like constant partying coming from a certain area of the Forest of Magic.  Upon arriving there, I discovered a strange, tower-like structure that the faeries later explained to me as their shrine.  Given the lack of dieties in general, it's a far cry from being a shrine.  Still, the faeries are very determined to make this work out.  I travelled to the Misty Lake near the Scarlet Devil Mansion to ask local ice faerie Cirno what she thought.

"There's no way this can fail!  Even though I'm not on sight, I can still give them my support."  She sounded very determined.  Being one of the stronger faeries around, perhaps this new 'shrine' has a chance.

> You then read the Kakashi Spirt News' article.
> Flying over the Forest of Magic yields little more than a good view of the treetops; however, for a while now I have been seeing what looks like the top of a radio tower, a relic that's supposed to be exclusive to the Outside World.  Closer inspection reveals that it has been colonized by faeries, but the tower itself doesn't seem to be serving its intended function.  Furthermore, the faeries don't even realize what they have stumbled upon.

> Well, both articles are expressing doubt in the faeries' competence.  The Bunbunmaru's article, however, seems to go in depths as Aya actually goes and interviews that ice faerie Cirno.  On the other hand, Hatate focuses more on the technical potential of the tower itself.

>Then check the lamprey stand ads; maybe there's some coupons! And directions!

> You then check the lamprey ads.
> Two of the five ads are actually coupons, which delights you greatly.  It's a discount, buy one get one free for a limited time only!  Looks like they've got a month or so left before they run out.  The other ads are generic, saying things like "Eat at Mystia's!  Open both day and night in the Human Village!  We are closed during weekends, holidays, and Fridays."

Workable. But given we spent most of the day out, I'm predicting a lot of time just laying in bed fruitlessly at this point. So might as well enjoy a swinging nighttime site.

But then the two for one deal wouldn't really be of use to us, since we're definitely not going to be eating for two. Plus, during the day, we can do other stuff like talk to Byakuren about helping us with Kikuri and Konngara, meeting the yamabiko, and show Mado around.

Whilst you both have a point, I'm more with Purvis on this one. Going out whilst still pretty much awake beats killing till trying to nap when we really don't feel like it.

Plus, who knows, maybe Sanae, being the good girl she is, might use the coupon for someone already there; bonus points if it turns out to be someone of interest / quest helping value.
