Got into 2 abandoned mines, one with blue spiders (which drained my life down to one heart >.<) and one without any mob, because it was right in the air...
Those blue spiders are a pain, they can fit everywhere (I wonder if they can fit between a block and a slab?).
I haven't encountered any Silverfish, though.

I've found 3 so far, one spider, one zombie and one blue spider, and judging by the sheer ammount of skeletons and creepers here I'm sure there one for each too.
Yeah I'm getting owned p easily :fail:

Gonna get that update now.

While foraging for food near my hut, I found this weirdness:

Also, I found this in a nearby cavern too.

Haku, this is awesome XD (just don't fall).
Your lava lake is pretty cool too, Aya Reiko.

I could build my house on/in the mountain, don't know the English word for houses inside rock, but there's enough room in there.

did you have to download again for update 2, or is that automatic updating if you have the pre-release already?

I haven't tried survival mode after I heard you can't even smelt iron.

Forget that, go straight to 1.8 UNLESS you play on servers which still want to ride on 1.7.3 (like ours) or if you use required mods that lack 1.8 versions yet (one common example being Optifine).

Replaced the .jar

Also after the update the furnace stopped crashing the shit out of everything. That was a stupid glitch.

e: whoa 1.8 is out :D
And Notch made a tweet about snow biomes like half an hour ago, so I guess they're out there :D

There are still some crashes though, had a "Saving chunks" crash when putting items in a chest...

And I noticed a lighting glitch with brick stairs, they darken the wall.

I've heard the contrary that they wouldn't patch that until 1.9

So I tested a bit of 1.73 <-> 1.8 transition with new vanilla worlds with some assistance via Zombe's mod (which, if you enabled Flying/Sprinting, will compound the effect with MC's sprinting, so you can easily run VERY quickly - but jump height acceleration isn't there yet, I think).

Results: I suggest starting over and making a fresh 1.8 world regardless of the progress you've done on 1.7.3 or the lack of snow biomes. It's crazy enough it even affects the sea level!

Proof here (1.7.3 on left, 1.8 on right):

[attach=2]
[attach=3]

1.7.3 doesn't play nicely with 1.8-generated worlds, either (but that's no surprise):

I had the same thought on this. I thought that was of the past. ???

But anyway, I'm sticking with 1.7.3 at the moment, mostly because of the server, and no optifine. Without optifine, I get laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. :colonveeplusalpha:

Durr oh Notch you prankster.

On the other hand, I've been dabbling a bit in 1.8 just now, really like the lighting and I was also reminded how long ago it was that I played ordinary Minecraft.

Sticking to 1.7.3 is reall not worth it. Like, at all.

I like the new lighting effects, but not the red/orange hue given off by "non-sunlight" sources. It makes my structures look odd. I'll have to adjust it in my texture pack sometime.

I'm loving the blueish hue given off by "moonlight" though.  :3

IMO they look a bit better if smooth lighting is on. This does affect performance a bit, though.

Started a new world with the full 1.8 release.  Found this right away:

If you plan to use villages as base of operations, start by walling it up (2 block high of planks is a good start), light up all of it (don't forget the roofs), and add a moat (with water).  Failing to do all of that, and you'll find your village overwhelmed by nasties and rearranged by Endermen.

Also...

Scored my first Ender Pearl!

You forgot about the overhangs on the outer walls against the wall-climbing spiders. Also 3 blocks high, at least.

Doesn't do shit against blue spiders :V
Though I'm hoping those only spawn underground.

For those of you who don't know, the "Mooshroom" resembles the cow which we have on our packages of milk here in Sweden. And they are supposedly shearable, so can we cut the mushrooms of them?

I've played around with 1.8 for a little while, but I don't think I'll really get into it yet, and will stick to the MotK server for the time being. Looks interesting, though :3

Love that pool. Only on the second time reading it did I realise why they went through the nether portal though lol.

Also stone bricks. Fucking. Finally. So good to have them. Cobble looks wank (general opinion) and Stone looks like a Cliff. now we have a material that actually looks like a building material that isn't wood or brick. A welcome addition!

Dear Notch,
1.8 is the most amazing thing ever. But please fix everyone dropping ten thousand individual XP orbs upon death in multiplayer and lagging the server down to 2fps every time.
Thank you,
Azure

On a more serious note, I found a huge abandoned mine shaft, and the center room was also in the middle of a ravine, so there were about 20 empty blocks below me and 20 empty blocks above me (I couldn't see the top OR the bottom), with only a single layer of wood to stand on. Also, poison spiders coming from every angle. This was the first time I ever saw an abandoned mine shaft, a ravine, or poison spiders, and I knew nothing about any of them beforehand. I somehow survived because the new food system is awesome, but it was the scariest thing I've ever encountered in Minecraft.

Also, Endermen are awesome and I personally think it's cool that they can move blocks, but I agree that it could be frustrating in some situations. The most popular solution I've heard so far is only making them do that if they're chasing you, which would work perfectly.
