Baity how do you manage to deathbomb in PC-98 as well as you can in the Windows games? Every time I try to deathbomb in the PC-98 games I die and somehow end up bombing after I revive (i.e. a second or two after I press the button), requiring preemptive bombings to survive. Its reasons like this I prefer to use Yuka in MS.

How much time do you guys think it will take for HM to be translated? Besides everyone's story modes and the whole menus, there's also the fact that the way HM's programmed is different from all other games. I bet it'll take two months.

Kogasa is almost as hard as Ichirin IMO. :V

I just cleared UFO stage 6 lunatic with no lives remaining. I love how I can beat this stage with one death sometimes, yet clear with none another. It's why I love UFO actually.

There could be a small amount of input delay. Alternatively, it's because in PC-98!Touhou you're more likely to react on a visual cue, while on Windows!Touhou you're most likely to react to an audio cue. It's been known that you react to an audio cue much quicker than a visual cue. Unless you're trained to be better at reacting to visual cues than audio cues  :V

My reaction time is above average. That could be a reason why I deathbomb so well, but I doubt it. I know when I'm going to get hit (or when I feel threatened by an attack), so I usually try to bomb beforehand.

Baity, do you know if there's a PC-98 emulator that saves input files? (or did you have to record this while playing?)
As far as I know, I don't think I know of any (PC-98) emulator that saves input files. Besides, I don't think saving inputs would help; I noticed that the boss movements were random, as well as seeing some of the bullets fired (fairies and bosses) being random as well.

And I had to record while playing. Used a state I conveniently left at the start of Stage 5.

In PC-98 you have to death bomb from visual cues like Baity said. This visual cue is that you stop moving when you're hit. If you know to take advantage of this it can actually be a bit easier to death bomb than in the Windows games because it's impossible to react to it in those.

BOOOOOOOOOOOO

I decided to do a random Reimu run of MS Hard.  Two panic-bombs for no reason up till Yuki and Mai, followed by two stupid deaths on Mai (one a spawn-death, stupid MS invincibility time).  A couple deaths on Yumeko, I get to Shinki 3/0 and 9 point items away from a fourth life.  Clip her second phase, get the extend after I die on the wings.  Then I somehow die twice (another spawn-death) on Cheeto Lasers (DAMNIT I CAPTURED YOU WITH MIMA STUPID SLOW MIKO) and game over almost instantly on the second wing phase on a crappy clipdeath.

Man, that sucked.

I thought that I could play the PC-98 Touhou lagless.  Apparently not :(

Also, I'm now 8/30 on Kogasa's first spell card, 2/25 on her second, and 0/17 on Karakasa.  1/4 on Nue's first spell card.  0/2 on her second.

That's not counting the number of rage resets from deaths on the first wave.

God I hate you Kogasa.  You're so evil.

I assume you're not shooting the familiars, then.  Because that just makes it the most pathetically wimpy final card ever.

Reimu makes it still difficult due to her horrid damage output.

Its not just the damage output. I find that even with Youmu Solo it still takes an unconfortably long time to get rid of enough familiars to neuter the card. =/

since you have save states, you could do a test. Load a state, then don't make any input to the game, for a while. Load it again, make no inputs, and then watch if the game ran exactly like the previous run. It should, if the principle of "no true random behavior" in the game's code holds true for this platform as well.

Luck manipulation
Video game consoles are computers. They do exactly what they are told, and will always give the same result when given the same input. There is nothing that is truly random. The only source of true randomness in games is you! Games are purely deterministic and depend solely on user input.

Learn to abuse this fact. You can affect anything that has an element of randomness in it, like monster movements or item drops.

Read more at Luck Manipulation.

input files don't desynch much in MAME, at least; it's even possible to playback input files, and then record them in video while the emulator is running. (so, it's a pity that this method can't, at the moment, be used for PC-98 games..)

Alright, "no true random behavior" applies if I use my current savestates (the one at the start of Stage 6 I have for practice / perfection reasons and the one at the start of Stage 5).

However, upon multiple restarts of Stage 1 (not using a state, but it can be safe to assume that I would get the same results as above) I would die at different times. That's expected though (well, for me at least), and I'm just putting it out there  :V

Still need a way to save input files though.

Reimu makes it still difficult due to her horrid damage output.
Went and tried it Reimu no-focus.  Basically had it on the twentieth try (screwed up on a pathetically easy dodge).  Then I tried using approximately six-tenths of a second focused and capped it in two tries.

Yeah, Astronomical Loltombing.  About the only way to make it REALLY hard is to do what Kefit did.

Yeah, Astronomical Loltombing.
It's much more fun to do it with Alice or Yuyuko tbh.

----

I had a great run of PoFV Extra going (I could have broken 1 billion if I didn't do anything retarded on Reimu) when my computer started slowing down.  After getting walled and dying I paused and closed Firefox, hoping that would reduce the drain on the computer.

No, it slows the game to 20FPS.  Reimu opens with a Lv. 3 and a Lv. 2 and the bullets blur together.  I die again.  RAGEquit.

So for some reason I stopped failing and did a PCB normal run, no deaths for the first 4 stages. I would at least expect a random stupid death on stage 4 (boss aswell as the stage) but I even perfected those (I actuall killed lily white and the death fairy for once).

Then stage 5 came, AKA youmu I-kill-you-now and lost 4 lives :V

Well, since there isn't a thread for minor annoyances i'll put it here.

I was playing against Koishi. Because of how almost everything in the stage is very easy i decided i was going to casually work towards a perfect clear of her. Then i die to Philosophy and perfect the rest.

Can u say meh? :-\

This sort of worked for me in reverse.  It took me many attempts to learn this before finally clearing it for the first time with 0 lives left.  A couple days later, I randomly tried the stage to see if I could capture Genetics.  I ended up completing it with no deaths.  The best part?  I captured everything EXCEPT genetics.

Died at Shinki's first phase. I had a perfect run up until Stage 4, and Deathless until Yuki & Mai. I died twice with max bombs there, which is why this is here.

Oh, and I had 50Mil Points after Alice.

Almost unprecedentedly good run- 20k with only one really stupid death up to China. Then double death to colorful rain. COLORFUL RAIN. Then typhon comes along- another death. The final two deaths came to random shots in the fourth stage. Good run ruined.
