MOTHERFUCKER I WAS JUST GOING TO POST-
It took this long to make a trademark. Give it another 10 years.
No, they have a maximum period within which they
have to start commercially using the name. To quote something from elsewhere
To clear up what this means: Valve does not have a trademark on the title "Half Life 3" (ignoring common law trademark). Valve filed an intent-to-use trademark application. This means Valve has three months to show actual use in commerce of the mark to get the registration or they lose the mark. They can file up to 5 extensions, each I believe can last 6 months.
Thus, this is evidence that Half Life 3 is planned for a release within that time period but not definitive proof. Valve could use the mark in a different way than selling the game itself or they could abandon it.
If you add in Valve's normal business practices of not pulling petty shit, this pretty much means a confirmed release some point in the future, probably together with or not long after SteamOS hits the market
Now excuse me while I
