It's super effective once you get used to it. Most top score records were done with Youmu. I cant play with such a shottype at all, so my favourite player in TD is Marisa, wich is a bit less powerfull, but more familiar.

MarisaA and B in SA look pretty, but ReimuA(SA) is the most effective shottype for me. Persuasion Needle ftw :V

TD Youmu is fun, but timing fucks me up every time. Plus I forget how to use it if I don't touch it for a few months...
Needle Reimu is my favorite overall.

What's your favourite boss portrait in Touhou? Portrait, not sprite, mind you. And yes, fighting games count. I imagine that character design will have a lot to do with people's choices.

Mine is definitely Byakuren. The glowing scroll, the namusanbou, I love it.

Nazrin, S5Midboss edition. Dat pagoda. Close behind is Alphes's rendition of Utsuho. The glowing hair is an awesome effect. I shudder to imagine what would happen if Okuu got her hands on the Pagoda. I'd have to say Alphes' Utsuho. ZUN's version is pretty good too, but let's face it, Alphes is a better artist overall. :V

For Alphes, I really don't know. They are all really detailed and well done but Utsuho and Sanae stand out for me. I'm not able to narrow down a straight winner though so they'll have to tie... oh wait I'll give it to Utsuho since I haven't yet forgotten that MoF debacle.  :V

What's your favourite bullet type in Touhou? Might have to accompany your description with screenshots if you don't know the colloquial names of some bullets, like the WHITE05 bullet. No lasers allowed, mind you, no matter what Marisa says in Grimoire of Marisa. PC-98 bullets are fair game.

Mine is kunai/dagger bullets, because I feel damn cool when I graze them.

Bubble bullets are fun to dodge cause of their small hitboxes. It's hilarious to go through "solid lookng" swarm of them without being hit

There are people who like dagger bullets? I swear to god those things have some kind of telekinetic death-field around them.

My personal favorite: Kunai (Yoshika's bread and butter bullet). They're basically WHITE05 but look a little cooler, and you can tell where they are going from their orientation. WHITE05 itself is pretty damn good too though, seeing as the rule in Touhou is the bigger the bullet, the more bullshit the actual hitbox is.

I'm going to have to say Utsuho's giant sun bullets, if only for the novelty and for the fact it's something we've only seen once in the series so far.
