> Wait, so ghosts go to Hakugyokurou... but they go to the Sanzu River to go to judgement... is Hakugyokurou kind of a waiting room, then? Will Madotsuki have to go to the river eventually?

> "Eh?! You're a shinigami?" Look at her scythe. "Huh, I thought that was a western thing."
> Turn to the shinigami. "So what are you doing out here, then? No one's dying, right?"

> "That's right."  She catches you looking at the scythe.  "Oh, we all have these."

> The woman smiles.  "Nope.  I don't work the night shift today, so I came here for dinner."

> "There's a night shift? Next thing I know, you're going to tell me that you guys are unionized or something."
> Wow, that's just weird!
> "So how's that like, being a shinigami? Do you guys fight evil spirits or something? I don't suppose that scythe's, like, a intelligent weapon or something, right? Can you do bankai?"

> "There's a night shift? Next thing I know, you're going to tell me that you guys are unionized or something."

> "So how's that like, being a shinigami? Do you guys fight evil spirits or something? I don't suppose that scythe's, like, a intelligent weapon or something, right? Can you do bankai?"

> "That's right.  I make a killing off of what I do."  The woman frowns.  "Fight evil spirits?  No, we ferry ghosts across the river.  The scythe...well, it can be used for a weapon but it's mostly a symbol, to let the dead people know who we are.  What's bankai?"
> "Dead people know who I am!" the cat girl pipes up.

> "Bankai's when you go, uh, 'bankai!', and things go 'whoosh!' and... er, nevermind." Blush slightly.
> Look at the cat girl. "Hm... are you a corpse collector? I met one a few days ago, her name's Orin. And I gotta tell you, those evil spirits are jerks."
> Back to the shinigami. "Hey, how come you don't handle those evil spirits underground? They're really rude, especially to other ghosts!"

> "Bankai's when you go, uh, 'bankai!', and things go 'whoosh!' and... er, nevermind." Blush slightly.

> You try to explain "bankai" and fail miserably.
> "Eh?"  The red haired woman looks confused.
> You look over at the cat girl.  Is she a corpse collector like that Orin girl?
> "No.  But when I was near one once it just sprung up all of the sudden!"  She jumps in the air to prove her point.
> You turn back to the shinigami and ask why she doesn't deal with the evil spirits.
> "I don't wanna take the jobs of those guys down under, y'know."  The shinigami stuffs the rest of the lamprey into her mouth.  After she swallows it all, she continues.  "'Sides, it's kinda frowned upon in my line of work to hurt ghosts and the like."

> "Oh, okay." Finish off our lamprey. How full do we feel?

> "I guess you could say we're sort of like coworkers, except in different departments and buildings.  She'll bring over groups of ghosts to the river sometimes, and that's the only time I see her."
> The white haired woman and the ahoge girl are eating quietly, listening to the lamprey girl sing.  The cat girl's finish off her lamprey as you glance over at her, as if she's in a hurry or something.

> The cat girl puts a finger to her lips, makes a shushing sound, and disappears in a puff of smoke.
> ...No, wait, she just turned into a black cat, and is running off into the bushes.  There she goes.

> Point at the ahoge-girl. "So what's your story? You look so normal that there's got to be something special 'bout you. Like, a secret agent or something."
