What about if you keep the narrow canal, hold the sheep with a trapdoor while you feed it/them with wheat and shear it/them, then when you open the trapdoor it gets carried away in the flow to die?
Trap doors block water flow when both when they're open and shut.. Like I said, I'd mess with it later. Right now, I'm finally enjoying the full release. :3

As awesome as the wool center is, I'd rather do away with it because of xp grinding. I know some people will do just that instead of it's real purpose, wool. Unless there was a way around that. Strafe's idea is actually pretty good, just if we could get it working. Or if mods developed to turn off sheep xp or maybe just no xp drops in a specified area..... wait, that last one's stupid. (it's late, my brain isn't working)

Eh, either a contraption or no center is pretty much it. I'm fine with it either way, as long as you don't get xp from it if it's there.

Not if they're on the block above.

Which is exactly what we're discussing.

Yeah I know. I've been keeping up. It's just seeming very hard to pull something off right now.

Now if I had a mod that allowed me to create sheep spawners, then I could be messing around with a design as well. But right now, :derp:. (I still haven't messed around with 1.0.0 yet)

If the new world on the server has the same amount of naturally-spawning sheep that I'm experiencing in SSP right now, then the Wool Center will definitely be retired. The Sheep Feed plugin is good enough to have in case people want to hold on to their own flock.

I think Breeding + SheepFeed render the Wool Centre unnecessary. Let those who use lots of wool create their own ranches, and obtaining lots of wool at once is not very hard provided an ample supply of bread.

What will be more interesting is when 1.1 comes out. Recent word from Jeb suggest that when that comes out we will see the return of Taiga biomes and sheep will regrow their own wool on their own *gasp* So by then we won't need to use that wool plug in. (But that's still a bit away for now)
That's one small step for man, one giant leap for Otaku Kind.

what.

No, seriously. what.

I thought that the Taiga biomes were back in as of the full release. I guess that explains why I haven't seen one yet. Has Jeb mentioned when the 1.1 will possibly hit?

Ooh, nice! Hope the update goes smoothly!

And this was an edit to my last post, but Stuffman ninja-posted by the time it was saved so I moved it here:
Took a bit of time to play some MC Portable on the demonstration iPods and iPads at my local Apple Store...and it is pretty good. Controls are a bit quirky (and the screen seems too small for them) and some more optimisation (eg. having full HUD on iPad, better control scheme, Bluetooth keyboard support) would be nice, but it's still the fundamental Creative Mode Minecraft we know and love. Though it is a bit cramped to play it on the tiny iPod/iPhone screen without physical buttons....

...so yeah, all you people with compatible iOS and Android devices (which doesn't include me yet :V) should go get it. ^^

Notch be praised.  :V

I guess that depends on whether or not pine forests and taiga are the same biome or two separate ones.
~ Wiki seems to consider them the same biomes.

I come in and read all this  :V
The idea of no wool center is slightly tragic to me sence I use it frequently, specially sence I'm totally into white wool buildings. (as if that isnt obvious)
But if we keep bread feeding
Then we just stock up on bread (thats stackable now :D)
Find some sheep, dig a pit and send them into it (I do that with chickens, but Ive found a more efficiant way with them now)
Sheer em, feed em bread, and sheer em again
Breed if you have to
That way you don't ever kill your sheep (unless you fail at breeding) so you dont get exp orbs and you get all the wool you want as long as you have bread
which really should'nt be hard provided the fact we have/had a wheat farm right by spawn.
We don't need an ep girlfriend killing house.

Sigh, another two-and-a-half pages were posted within a day... nuts to that, not reading all that.

great, and just as I find some major quirks in TGTA to fix (that, and finals).
I know, right? And that is precisely why I want myself banned from our MC server. Extremely addictive and I have to study sometimes, too.

Anyway, Doctor, I really do not see where the fun in Hardcore Mode is... Unless it's a part of some self-imposed challenge, perhaps?... I got smothered to death by zombies when I decided to go inside my active exp farm to fix it, because the zombies got stuck somewhere on the water chute. It was not a bright idea of me to unplug the canal with well over 50 zombies in it while not having any escape routes. Frustrating. :S
I got something like 1700 points, I think...?

In the end, I have mixed feelings about Hardcore. I focused entirely on survival, with no intention of building anything artistic or "nice". It was the first SSP game I've played in MONTHS, as well as my first crack at the 1.0 goodies. The challenge and threat of death was definitely there, until I crafted a set of Iron Armor. The armor in the game is incredibly durable. I was taking hits and creeper explosions like there was no tomorrow. It felt like I was wearing Enchanted diamond armor or something.. The game became quite easy, allowing me to get diamonds and equipment from the Nether to begin my Potions and Enchantments. The armor finally wore off on a supply run in the Nether. Those pigmen tore me apart very quickly. :V

So yeah. I enjoyed it, but felt that the game was totally nerfed when you wear armor. I wanted to take my game all the way to the Dragon.. but alas.

Also, the game is a lot more fun with other players around, so yeah, I was losing interest..

Everything going smoothly so far. The seeds for the worlds are "Red Magic" and "Futatsuiwa from Sado", so you can think of world1 and world2 as Remiland and Mamiland :V

Snow is confirmed to be generating correctly, the world 2 spawn is in a tundra biome so you'll be able to gather it easily.

Snow and pumpkin seed recipes have been removed since you can get these yourself now.

The new border is in place, 2560 blocks from spawn in each world. You can move beyond it but you will momentarily be teleported back to the border.

W1 needs charisma, and W2 lacks tectonics.

So is this a circular border or a giant 2560x2560 area?

That being said, it looks like my plan is shot down. Nether size is effectively reduced to 320 from spawn. :\

Version 11w49a is out (well, that's the new name for pre-releases), with a few new things, such as sheep eating grass and regrowing wool, and... spawn eggs?
Those eggs are used like any other object, and spawn a mob where you click (you can spawn about everything, except for the enderdragon).

And so, the obligatory lolsquid...:

So, I found my End Portal in CSP, and guess where is spawned me? It's even worse than what we had on the server. I'M IN THE ISLAND! If this was the server, there wouldn't be anyway to do anything, since the walls and ceiling are Endstone. This is freakin' brilliant! D:

Just mine out the End Stone with a stone or better pickaxe...the issue we had on the server involved Permissions, which was fixed (checked yesterday evening).
