You guys wrote so damn much and it's so hard to quote older messages, hnnng... Guess I'll have to make the quote tags myself, then.
Good bye Sand duper lag. Hello xp farmer lag.
Nah, I don't think so. I mean, how many mobs can the spawner spawn? Even if it really can override the cap of hostile mobs simultaneously present in the world, you must still maintain your hunger meter every once in a while (at least if you are playing on masochist- I mean, hardcore mode for some reason, like me, where 1) death means world deletion and 2) the difficulty is locked on hard, so death from starvation is possible), or kill the mobs periodically lest someone barges in and snatches your preciousssss experience (if playing in SMP, although our server is an obvious exception because of us trying to be nice to each other and whatnot).
And really, the sand duper was not that laggy. Except for that one time when someone, Chen it was, I believe, came up with an idea to massively increase duper's capabilities by multiplying the number of pistons and making the contraption more compact. Sure it was an feat of engineering, but the humble Sand Duper Mk. I that I brought to the server way back could hardly lag it to death in a matter of seconds. Once, Night4ce went AFK at the Koishiville duper for a couple minutes and nothing bad happened. The lag ramp-up would have been way too slow to notice at first anyway.
Seriously, Chen's duper produced like, a stack of sand per second? That gives you an idea of how many dropped items have to be present on the server at any given time for it to give. I think it's about two thousand objects... Now, I don't know about entities like hostile mobs, but... Unless you go AFK for a really long time and spawn something like 500 skellies, and... uh, and since the monster spawner can only spawn so many as 4 mobs in one cycle... :ohdear:
Nevermind...
What exactly do Animals need to spawn? I know they need Grass, but do they need sunlight or just a certain light level? Also does there have to be a certain amount of space?
I'm not spawning a particular animal type btw.
For whatever reason, passive mobs seem to spawn much, much less frequently than they did in previous versions of Minecraft. And they persist for a long time where they spawned. You might want to start up a ranch.
Which is an awesome thing, y'all, if you ask me. Just try breeding. Baby cows and their high-pitched moos are cute. It's time and space-consuming, but worth it.
Oh, and slowly walking past multiple herds of passive mobs while waving a handful of wheat around will soon earn you a large group of followers. I find it cute, too, because the mobs technically give you aggro and behave just like hostile mobs when they acquire you (particularly like zombies) and just keep charging right at you (except that they cannot, or will not, attack, of course) until you get out of their aggro range or switch your held item.
That's all pretty nice and dandy, but I am worrying about new animals not spawning. I made my new residence at the border between a desolate swamp and a snowless taiga/pine forest. I only have wolves in my immediate vicinity, and large packs of them at that, too. They are hunting all the sheeps on sight... Which does not bother me much, because I've already created a bed, but... in fact, mass farming wool is probably a pain in 1.0.0. Food sources can be diversified, while these of wool cannot. Unless you really want to AFK farm spider spawners as well. I'm not even sure if they still drop strings, though.
EDIT: I probably don't need so much Sugar cane but oh well :V
Lol, that's exactly what I did after finding some sugar canes. Gotta set up that sugar cane farm for bookshelves, yo!
This whole enchanting business is such a bore. I made an experience farm like the one seen in the video, but it took me about 10 minutes to get from level 10 to 20. I cannot be bothered to put any more bookshelves than is needed for lvl 20 enchantments, and neither am I willing to AFK farm while I'm away, because of... well... wasting electricity...
Oh, and making the big lvl 20 enchantment was quite a disappointment too. My freshly repaired Diamond Pickaxe got Unbreaking II - and only that. Really...
Poker face 2x.
