A recent post from Jeb suggest that Notch told the staff that there will not be a 1.9 release. Instead all pre-releases from this point will  lead toward the offical release on November 18th. I guess that means that 1.8.1 will mark the end of the Beta chapter. And thus now we will have to monitor every pre-release updates via twitter till November 18th since by then the game will offically launch.
That's one small step for man, one giant leap for Otaku Kind.

Wow I haven't been keeping track of stuff, hadn't even looked at this thread for a while. Holy shit, one month and everything's changed.

Am I the only one who's bummed out by the prospect of the Beta ending? It felt so infinite, like the game would expand and get new and exciting things forever :/

I think it still will, to some extent. From my understanding, everyone but Notch and a handful of others are going to continue on with Minecraft, while Notch does other crap.

And if they ever do stop updating... Well, then you've got mods.

The Beta had to end at some time. Fortunately, they'll still be adding stuff.

Official release is just another term for extended beta.

More info for you guys:

My design guidelines for the dragon: If I can beat at all, it's too easy.
AW YEAH NOTCH THAT'S THE WAY TO DO IT.  It seems notch caught on to the too easy thing :V

Quote
The dragon phases through terrain, and is 100% invulnerable now. Now to make it more difficult.. Hmm..
THANK YOU FOR SATISFYING MY LUNATIC DESIRES NOTCH \o/

Quote
i made it vanish all blocks it hit. That was awesomely destructive, but expensive in MP. =D
...that sounds...problemmatic.  AND YOU PANSIES WERE WORRIED ABOUT ENDERMEN JUST LOOK AT THIS:
Quote
yes. Everything. Instantly. Not sure if we're keeping it. =)
YEAH YOU BABIES THIS IS A REAL HAZARD.  However, it may be removed so who knows :V

Quote
Yep, I'm going to have to let mobs have multiple hit boxes.. Crap. Much crap. This is going to be horrible to implement. First: MvC3!!
About time gdi.

Also jeb poasted:

Enchantments are 'done' for the time being. Now on to why there are so many bad potions... *dun dun dun*
I wonder what he has planned.  Also, it seems ghast tears now cause regeneration in a potion rather than instant health or something.

The addition of the dragon sounds too good. Finally, MC has super-destructive mobs to actually be genuinely concerned about!

I wonder... Would it be possible to tame a dragon?  It would be cool to have a flying mount that rains destruction anywhere. >:D

More like Notch is making the Elder Blocks or the Miner Scrolls, and thus Bethesda may try to extend its case to this. :\
...which in that case, no money to Skyrim from me.

The concept of an invincible being that destroys even Adminium doesn't seem like a legitimate threat at all. It sounds more like forcing you to delete your world when one shows up, regardless of when or where. Seeing how this is heading, they'll probably be hostile, have a huge sight range with x-ray vision [see through blocks], and ignore things like light, difficulty, even the game mode. It'll probably take a mod to disable their appearance, too.

At this rate they should probably be called (Ender)Dragon Gods instead of just (Ender)Dragons if you get my drift.

Well it looks like there is only one enderdragon in the ender.
Notch mentioned maybe putting smaller dragons in the overworld.

Thank God they don't spawn in the regular world
No wonder Endermen are always moving blocks. They have to keep moving their homes away from that damn dragon!

It looks very cool. Just waaaaay too destructive to unleash in the main world.

Indeed, seeing them in main world would be diastrous. However, I still support seeing smaller, less destructive dragons in main - there, death from above

Better yet, put a few dragon spawners around, especially in the planned sphere world. Have to keep the game from becoming too easy!
