Yep! I finally decided to try out that PTM setting myself, thanks to the Aether pushing me to download and install several SSP mods, PTM being one of them. That's the world that was generated with the settings I had in place! One major downside: No trees. The SMP server I played on with this terrain utilized a plugin called "OtherBlock" or something like that to allow cacti to have a 5% chance of dropping wooden planks when destroyed with just about anything, but a 20% chance of dropping planks when destroyed with an axe of any kind. Destroying the bottom-most block of cactus would only apply the 5/20% chance to that one block; the two above it would never be a plank drop. However, when using an axe, the 20% chance had a chance of overlapping the 5% chance, allowing for double planks drops on uncommon occasions!

Edit: Thanks to theep, Assistcraft's been updated! The default cobblestone texture has been replaced with one which should be much less of an eyesore. Enjoy!

If you'd like a personal version that I use for removing rain, snow and clouds, here's this link instead!

If you've been having problems Steam not working with minecraft. (Either it loads, then flickers to you being online.) Or (It doesn't load at all). I found a fix that should work. (This has been confirmed with 4-5 other people on various forums.)
Note: This is for people running x64 Java, Steam overlay works with x32 bit Java for minecraft for some reason.

First you need to download the stand alone minecraft.jar from http://www.minecraft.net/download.jsp
The stand alone jar is under Linux/other.

Once you have that downloaded, Create another folder called minecraft. Drag and drop the jar into that folder. Open that folder and create a text document.
Copy paste this into the text document:
Code: [Select]
java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp Minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrameName this text document. "Minecraft.bat"  Save it as a .bat or this will not work.
Now launch the bat, if it doesn't flicker way, you got it right.

You need to now download a Bat to EXE converter. The one I use is:
http://download.cnet.com/Bat-To-Exe-Converter/3000-2069_4-10555897.html
After downloading, Unzip it and run the converter, Find where you put "Minecraft.bat" It should be in that folder you named minecraft. Select it and convert the bat.

Tada! It should now be working. I will post a picture on what it should look like if you followed my instructions.

I think that's a giant mushroom. It's seen in the village screenshot too.

Ah, great, just what the game needs: NPC villagers in the form of memes.

Can we expect Longcat pets? Might there soon be blocks with a texture of Vegeta crushing a scouter? Will Notch ever have an original thought?

Only time will tell.

I'm just saying, when you've seen memes spouted so often that you can't stand it anymore, the last place you want to see them is in the games you play- and not as optional add-ons or plugins, but as a core part of the game. It's just a pet peeve of mine, I suppose. Like that "THE GAME" sign made of netherrack on Stuff's/Strafe's server.

Yeah, memes are tiresome. However as long as someone, somewhere still finds them funny, they will never die.

Endermen can apparently teleport when you're not looking at them.

Oh god. Damnit Notch, are you creating a survival horror game now?

Ugh, agreed. It seems someone needs to perpetuate them everywhere. Terribly disturbing. That THE GAME sign was already bad enough of an indication.

...so instead of Minecraft, the game becomes Minerhazard (Japan) / Resident Ssss (everywhere else)? Or 'Alone in the Dirthouse'? :ohdear:
And don't forget about the worst enemy...Notch's terrible bug-fixing. For every one he fixes (and usually they're the useful ones), he adds 5 more.

I don't see how adding survival horror elements (especially just a creepy mob, which we could really use since we've adapted to creepers) makes it a different game.

At heart, it's still a 'go build cool shit and maybe level up when 1.8 comes, then watch me weep like a bitch the first time i turn around and see a surprise Enderman' game. This just adds something new and creepy.

And who knows, the Endermen could be passive aggressive. They won't so much scare the piss outta ya like a zombie or surprise Sssssss in a cave, but they may pull a Mario Boo and just stand perfectly still when you're looking at them and rearrange your shit when you ain't.

Also, I would be completely fine with him making a (real) survival horror game after MC's done. ('done' meaning 'post-release/Mojang's inevitable hangover from the 'we released it!' part)

I really don't mind the Enderman thing, but with every update and news I see on Minecraft, it seems to stray further away from it's 'go build cool shit' nature.
To me hunger crap is way more enough bullshit than the game needs, leveling up is completely pointless, etc.
The game doesn't need any of that, it's just in the way.

And yeah, a survival horror game would definitely be fine later on, since it seems obviously Notch has a thing for it, but I'd much rather he kept his priorities straight.

That THE GAME sign was already bad enough of an indication.
God I hate that sign.

Judging content before it's even released, and before any details about it are revealed other than a few vague screenshots?

Exactly. We have no idea how severe or whatnot the hunger thing'll be. We don't know the effects of letting it drop too far (health damage, debuffs to speed/attack/whatever). We know that it exists, food can be stacked, and there is going to be chicken.

Um, the very point of releasing previews and concepts before release is so that the people can judge them and give feedback.

It's not even a preview, though. It's just a screenshot and Jebs saying 'hey, this exists'.

Notch's recent comments about Endermen? (Peaceful until you look directly act them, look away and then you'll get fucked) That's a preview.

I never said it was.

I was simply comparing the food/hunger screenshot (not a preview) to information given by Notch (a preview, even if it's about something else).
