For my Graphic Design 2 class, I need to make an advertisement of some sort with an item that's reflective, and I thought I'd do Youmu's swords for the hell of it (I seriously have no clue what to do).

I've heard a quote/saying associated with Youmu that's like "The things they can't cut are next to nothing!" and I wanted to know if that was game dialogue or a fandom thing or what.

I'd also really like it if someone explained "Girls are preparing, please wait warmly" because I hear that all the time.

It's canon; she says it in PCB to the heroine right before her boss battle

Alrighty, thanks a bunch.  I'm always afraid of using things out of context... though those two are pretty hard to mix up.

In GFW, what does Marisa's laser do in her last spellcard? As this video shows, it doesn't kill you.

Marisa's lasers only gradually drop your motivation, they won't ever kill you. That's what the bullets are for. In her last card it pretty much goes apeshit and you have to survive at 0% the whole time, because it's quite difficult to follow the shaded region while avoiding bullets and still damaging Marisa.

Why does EVERYONE follow Reimu's danmaku battle rules no matter the circumstances?

I know that most residents of Gensokyo follow the rules to be able to fight with the shrine maiden on equal grounds without risking the Hakurei border, but what about Utsuho when she was trying to invade and let hell's fire loose on the above-ground world? Against Reimu, Utsuho might be following rules to keep the border. Against Marisa... I don't see any reason.

Maybe Yukari was involved in making sure that the danmaku battle rules are observed???

Because it's fun!

Serious answer: it's the same reason you follow rules in real life. If someone just killed someone else who was trying to investigate, the police would be all over it. Probably Yukari... or Shiki could just send you to hell, which is close enough.

Plus, you'd be pissing off Reimu... and who'd want to do that?

Especially if that means you get to have the fun of trying to defeat a boss with no hit-box without time limits.

I remember watching videos of some sort of fangame where two characters shot danmaku at each other in a side-view 2D arena, but I can't seem to find any trace of it anywhere. Any ideas on what the game is?

The spell card rules are (probably?  Given the circumstances that led to their creation) written on a vampire contract.  A vampire contract is unbreakable, thus all are bound to follow it and (probably?) couldn't break it even if they wanted to.  The original contract is mentioned both in Perfect Memento and in Cage in Lunatic Runagate (the Yukari chapter, where Yukari briefly mentions youkai can't eat native humans under the contract), although the spell card rules would have been more an addendum/revision/revised version of the original contract..

It is implied that an unknown youkai was the original writer of the spell card rules in Perfect Memento, and Yukari is listed in Perfect Memento's credits as one who worked with vampire contracts.  Thus it is highly likely that Yukari was indeed involved.  But the power of the contract comes from it being a devil contract, not Yukari (though Yukari, as "Sage of the youkai" and "Representative of Gensokyo's reality", was possibly the one with the authority to sign such a contract). The spell card rules came about because of the vampire incident, which is generally believed to have been orchestrated by Remilia.

The general story thus goes like this:

The vampires (presumably the Scarlet sisters, as Akyu states in another section that "when one refers to the vampires in Gensokyo, they must mean the Scarlet sisters" or something like that) invade Gensokyo.

An unknown youkai (presumably Yukari, since she's confirmed to have worked with vampire contracts) defeats Remilia (note:  The wiki has a mistranslation that indicates it was Reimu that defeated Remilia during this time.  The actual translation allegedly should state that a powerful youkai did from what other Japanese speakers told me.  I'd edit it but I don't speak Japanese and thus wouldn't get it very accurately, myself).

An initial contract is drafted with Remilia to prevent such things from happening again.   The contract stops Remilia from attacking humans in return for humans from the outside world as food, but apparently includes terms that are insanely harsh and restrctive on youkai in general in Gensokyo (according to Reimu's section).

The youkai object and bring their qualms to the shrine maiden (presumably Reimu, since it's in her section)

An unknown youkai (again, presumably Yukari) drafts a new contract in the form of the spell card rules (but purposefully words the contract as if it was Reimu that wrote it) and gives it (sneaks it?) to Reimu.   (given that Yukari and Reimu never really met in person before PCB, it is unlikely the two collaborated together on this.  However, apparently there were some discussions amongst youkai and/or Reimu, as other rules were considered)  Reimu goes along with it cause the current situation is very very boring for her.

The rest of the youkai presumably gleefully accept this new contract because it isn't a huge nazi fascist restrictive piece of evil unlike the old contract, despite it still being quite restrictive to youkai.

A new golden age in Gensokyo flourishes as a result.

Just as planned.

It does appear to be some kind of flower, or failing that, a leaf pattern.

This has been disturbing me for a while. What is the correct pronunciation of Nue's name?

Is it pronounced like New or like Nuu-e?

It's "nu-eh". All Japanese is completely phonetic, so "e" is always pronounced like in "bed". The only exceptions for spelling in Touhou names is when they have an English name like Patchouli, and some bad attempts at having an English name like Cirno (if it's pronounced like the Japanese, the "Ci" is supposed to be "chi".)

This is not a question if she can. Just what would happen.

If you could change anything in the world wouldn't you be overpowered? Let's just stay that Gaps and Gaps and keep it that way...

Even if a character was overpowered, your powers are limited to "how this is useful and what importance it has in Gensokyo" and danmaku. It doesn't matter.

This is not a question if she can. Just what would happen.

simply put it would probably create a dimensional mesh and all the objects would occupy the same space

Well, first of all, that isn't quite the kind of question this thread is for, but it seems to follow the frankly fallacious premise that "someone has control over a particular domain" necessarily means "someone has unlimited control over a particular domain." Just because Yukari has control over boundaries doesn't mean "if it could concievably count as a boundary, by any form of logic, Yukari can manipulate it by any definition of 'manipulate' in any way she wants, with ease." (She needed Reimu's help to cause the titular Imperishable Night, for instance.)

Yukari also becomes so unbelievably tired using her border abilities even daily that she has to sleep very often and pretty much hibernates for winter. Of course to say so is more or less speculation, but it really could only be imagined that the reason she sleeps so often is because of the use of her powers.

The way I've always seen Yukari is that while her ability is theoretically infinite, she herself is not.  Even though I believe that she is the rightful God of Hakurei, there are still limits to what she is capable of.  For instance, while she was the brains behind the Great Hakurei Barrier, Yuyuko says its construction was beyond her alone.  The Gensokyo Chronicle backs this up, saying there were other youkai sages and the dragon god involved.
Life and death are without purpose.  Our attempts to give them one are quite presumptuous of us.  But in the end, we exist, and that is enough.

Current status: Dissuading deliberately choking for imagined fame.

There were apparently a whole bunch of other humans involved, too~

Yukari's powers are finite, although it's unknown to what extent (and possibly impossible to actually state in terms that mere mortals can comprehend, anyways).  They're also developing (although whether they've reached their full potential by present day or are still developing, who knows?)

For example, assuming the make-believe story she told Ran was true, Yukari was originally not strong enough to break through the barrier to the Moon capital within any decent time frame, but by Silent Sinner in Blue, she's able to make a hole very quickly (though it ends up being Yuyuko who uses it)

Also, in many ways, boundaries are like walls.  Yukari can create the wall, but walls require maintenance.  Originally Yukari had to patrol most of the border herself just to make sure there were no holes, although now Ran does it these days (according to Perfect Memento). In Oriental Sacred Place, it's revealed that at least part of the Hakurei Border consists of trees, with a lot of safeguards to make sure that those trees can't simply die and leave holes in the border (one of the trees gets struck by lightning, but normal lightning won't cause a hole in the border. Reimu screws up and manages to create a hole in the border anyways by making the tree into a friggin' god and then killing that god with neglect, and Yukari ends up having to fix it by having the three fairies move in and revive it)

I suppose saying that Yukari can manipulate boundaries is equivalent to saying an engineer can build a building.  Yea, Yukari can manipulate boundaries, but it takes an amount of time, energy, and sometimes even materials to do it (I imagine it varies depending on what boundary she's fulling around with).  Each boundary probably has its own set of rules she has to follow, such as how getting to the moon via its reflection can only be done on the night of a full moon (the reason for this rule is stated in Cage in Lunatic Runagate, though I forget what it was, exactly).

There's also a fabric that exists which is so thick that Yukari can't pass through it. Toyohime uses it to tie Yukari up in Silent Sinner in Blue, and the Suwa shrine is defended by that fabric also (which is likely why Suwako says to Yukari that her shrine has no holes Yukari can sneak into in her Touhou Hisoutensoku win quote) (like most ZUN things, this fabric actually exists in real life apparently and is at the real world Suwa Shrine, though of course ZUN probably took some liberties)

Basically the reason why she could do it now and not then is because the boundary was complex and she couldn't figure out how to wiggle it open. Once she was able to figure out how it became much easier.
