> Let's go with the necklace!

>You offer Komachi the necklace. "Hehe, thanks!" she says. "You have a bottle or something? Anyways, you're gonna love this."
>She turns toward the river, puts her fingers to her lips, and gives a loud whistle. You notice the river gets a little choppier, while Komachi fastens the necklace around her neck. "There!" she says, turning to face you, the necklace resting on her chest and standing our against the blue fabric and quite distinctive.
>Before you can answer, something huge emerges from the river. Renko's arm around your shoulder suddenly tightens as a immense, black...thing raises up from the dark waters, raising dozens of feet in the air to tower above you. You can't even make out its entire shape in the darkness, noticing it has cut off most of your view of the river. It simply looks like an mountain in the river. "This is Pochi," says Komachi, walking over and patting on what you assume is it's snout. "Say hello, Pochi."
>It makes a sort of noise that makes you think of what you imagine a pig's squeal sounds like and metal being rent in half. Renko clings to you even harder.
>"So, that bottle?" Komachi says, holding her hand out. "And really, how's it look?"

>"I think it looks quite nice on you!"

>Try not to freak out.
>"And Pochi is, um... VERY impressive. Should I want to know more about uh... him? Her? It?"

>You are trying very hard to at least be more resolute than Renko.
>"She's my buddy," says Komachi. "Lived in the river for ages and ages. Can't tell you more than that. She's pretty much a big kitten, though."
>You hand her the bottle, you hand a bit shaky. However brave you are, huge sea monstrosities coming out nowhere do a number of your nerves.
>You do manage to compliment her necklace coherently. "Thanks!" she says as she takes the bottle in hand. "Pochi, open up!"
>The mass of darkness in front of you splits in hand, reveal teeth like stalactites, each one twice as large as you are tall. These part, revealing a cavernous mouth that is far too dark for you to actually see anything, though you are hit with a wave of air that smells like sewage. "Be right back," says Komachi, as she steps between its teeth and into its mouth. The sea monster's jaws close around her, and it submerges into the river. How can the water here be deep enough for that thing!?
>"Good...god..." Renko mutters.

>"Yeah, what kid of sea monster lets people do that?" says Renko. "Komachi must have trained her really well. Or maybe she just gets away with it due to being a ferrywoman?"
>Before you can answer, the waters churn again, and the black mass of Pochi rises from the water. After the initial surprise, it's not quite so frightening the second time. However there is still that knowledge this thing is obviously a predator, and you are obviously a small candy to her.  She opens her mouth again, and Komachi steps out. "Got it," she says, as she steps off the dock and wipes her shoes off on the grass. "That's a good girl, Pochi! You can go back to bed now."
>The sea monster sinks ones again, giving a kind of burbling squeal that almost makes you think of a purr. Komachi hands you the jar.
>You obtain: Sanzu River Water.

>"I wouldn't worry about them, unless they try anything. There were plenty of phantoms in the netherworld and they were all perfectly polite. One of them even guided me to where I had to go. I would have gotten lost without it. Evidently they have the full sentience of a person, even though normal people can't communicate with them. Well, rather, can't understand them. The phantom seemed to understand me talking to it just fine."
