So I got a no-focus no-bombs 1CC of Marine Benefit on Easy. I was initially trying for a no-focus perfect, but there's a few attacks that make that beyond me. (Why the hell is Megumi's second boss spellcard harder on Easy than on Normal? And I'm not talking by a small margin, I'm talking "it may be harder on Easy than it is on HARD".)

Also, is Stage Practice borked for everyone, or is it just me? When I try it, I literally cannot die, even when I'm actually trying to die. Obviously, this makes stage perfects pretty meaningless.

So yesterday I finally cleared EoSD again - haven't been Touhouing for a year or so. I jumped back to EoSD for a moment because practicing PCB was getting boring and frustrating. The run was nothing special, and after giving the Extra a few tries (I can do everything up to Laevateinn, with the exception of Patchy's Silent Selene and Philosopher's Stone  which are a bit random and prone to panic/deathbombing) I decided I'm done for the day.

Moving on back to PCB, I decided to just do a run, and, well...

The first three stages were standard. The Prismrivers were far worse than usual, but I decided to just bomb through them anyway, figuring I'll practice the fight later. The stage was pretty bad, too, as I forgot the easy way to dodge most of it.

Stage 5, however, was the best run I have ever done. Starting the stage at 3 lives, I gained 2 more in the stage itself, and only used up a grand total of 1 life and 1 bomb, both on the same spellcard. Everything else, I managed to either dodge, or dodge with the assistance of a broken border (which was the real reason I managed to win; Breaking borders by myself, rather than when I get hit).

The final stage wasn't special, though I'm rather proud of it nonetheless; I dodged the swords nonspell, for one, and I did reflowering 30% with no lives and two bombs, total (the last bomb used was probably unnecessary, but I used it just in case).

In one of the options menus, I don't remember if its the one in your game folder or if its the Options menu in-game, you should see an option called matchless. That one is either turned on or off. Switching it to the opposite should make hit detection work in Practice.

Beat PoFV with Marisa.

Then I unlocked Cirno and Mystica.

I used Cirno, because, you know... it's Cirno.

Cleared with my first use of Cirno, although I had to use 1 continue [Had to use all 3 with Marisa, and 2 with Reimu], I beat Shikieiki with all my lives intact on the first try after continueing.

Not to mention beating Yuuka on my 2nd attempt... when I'd never faced her before at all.

Watching Zengeku do it recently got back in the mood for trying this. But you know what surprised me even more than getting the 1cc? Perfecting everything outside of Stage 4 all in one run.

Somehow I doubt that-it's not nearly as bad as it seems.  just set lives to max, and cruise control through the game.  If you could do it with Border team, you can do it with solo Reimu.

So I've decided to start slashing away at the PoFV extras, raged at Sakuya a bit, then went and won with Youmu by not dying until Komachi.
4th round Shikieiki, with the 2nd and 3rd being facebullets, but I still won.

Trust me, I've tried this several times. Reimu's shots are too weak and endurance isn't my strong point at all. Also you have to fight Marisa who takes away 2+ of my lives. The farthest I've got with this is up to Life Spring Infinity.


Actually, I've never 1cc'd Hard with the Border Team before even with max lives. I've managed it with the Netherworld Team but maybe I should try Reimu and Yukari.

Both of those things also apply to the Netherworld Team. I'm surprised you think you can't do this. If you've been unlocking the other Last Words and capturing them then this shouldn't be too hard. And you say the farthest you got was Lifespring Infinity... well that's practically the end isn't it?

She still have to go through Hourai Jewel and that takes forever with Border Team. In addition to being Hourai Jewel.

But yeah, I'm sure you can do it Glimmer. If Marisa is taking 2 lives then you still have loads of additional lives to clear the game with. Especially if you start out with 7 starting lives. You should go try it again and if you don't suceed then make sure to save and post the replay. Perhabs I can give you a few tips.

Besides, like 5 bombs should neuter Hourai Jewel pretty easily. Just bomb every time you have to switch directions :V
Which means that unless you are entering the last spell with no lives at all, you should clear the game.

That was my strategy to beating Kaguya on lunatic anyways. At the time I had absolutely no skill to capture any of her spells reliably, much less the hated Hourai Jewel :derp:

Bear in mind I said Marisa takes 2+ lives. 2 is the minimum, she takes away 3 or 4 sometimes. And then there's the entire of stage 5 and almost all of Reisen, and Kaguya's cards which have a habit of killing me when she has barely any health left.


But I'm sure I'll be able to do this eventually. I'll just abuse spell practice and hope everything works out when I give it another shot.

Finally got my perfect PCB Extra uploaded onto Youtube.

Fraps can't record anything longer than ~140 seconds, and VirtualDub just plain sucks. I used Camtasia for this, which worked, but it's a little...choppy, I guess is the word?

So yeah, advice on how to better record things would be helpful. Especially before Camtasia's 30 day trial runs out, because I'm a cheapass. :V

Also, if you lower the framerate that Fraps records at you can reduce the file size and and get a longer video, but I think you'd have to go pretty far to fit a whole extra stage in one thing. That shouldn't be needed though since VirtualDub shouldn't hurt the quality that much.

Maybe it's something to do with my comp, I don't know, but when I try VirtualDub it utterly kills the quality. I tried combining the two Fraps videos of my perfect Orin, and wound up with the beginning looking more like a series of pictures than a video, and the sound was a garbled mess, and on top of that the filesize was beyond ridiculous. I deleted the file so I don't remember exactly, but it was exponentially greater than the first Fraps video, which contained roughly 90% of the fight.

So, yeah, unless I can find some sort of fix for it, I'm not using VirtualDub.

Oh right I forgot about that. :derp: Well, when I use it the videos come out unwatchable. They're fine for a few seconds and then what you just described happens. I think it's because the file is too big for the computer to play it properly or something (I'm not a computer guy). Once I put them through Megui and the file is much smaller they play perfectly, so I'd say try to just go through with the rest of the process, assuming you're following the guide on this site. I don't think there's anything wrong with the video itself; the computer just can't play it right when it's like that.

I use Hypercam 2 for all my videos... If you need a reference for the quality it comes out with, here you go.
But I still shove it through VirtualDub which makes a stupidly huge file that my computer won't even play; once I shove -that- through MeGUI it comes out like the video here.
