You try it out. It's definitely got a bit of a spicy kick to it, although it's not a huge kick. There's also a definite flavor to whatever Mokou used for spices, and you can detect a hint of sweetness in the taste as well, although not nearly as much as the smell seemed to indicate. It's pretty delicious. Mokou's giving you a sort of expectant look.

Mokou starts staring at the mix of spices in the bowl she's using. "Er..." she puts her hand to her chin. "Well, I think I used... you know, I'm not quite sure. I was just sort of mixing jars at random and seeing what I came up with, really."

More thinking from Mokou, as she slowly points to some of the jars laid out on the counter. "Well... I definitely used... that one, that one, and that one," she points to three jars marked "basil", "cayenne", and "paprika", "and I did add some ordinary salt and garlic too. I think there were a couple of other things, but that was probably the gist of it, ya know?"

Behind you, you hear movement from the stairs. Either Shiku or Neneru must have been awoken as well. With the smell permeating the house, you can't blame either one.

"Sure thing," Mokou says as she flips another couple yakitori. You head to the stairs, and notice Shiku already walking down them. She murmurs a "Morning, Keine" as you pass by her. Heading to Neneru's room, you can see her rubbing her eyes on the bed. She can't have been awake for more than a minute.

Neneru stares at you blankly for a moment. "Mmmnn? Izzat why the house smells good?" she finally manages to mumble out.

Indeed you do, and you give Neneru a small piece, which she gladly accepts. A few moments, and she gives a childish grin. "It's good!" she shouts out. She slips off the bed finally, sleepily tottering out of the room, clearly following the smell.

You and Neneru head downstairs, where Mokou and Shiku are already setting out four spots at the table for the breakfast. Mokou grins, sweeping her hand in a rather dramatic gesture and bowing; in general, being a ham. "Dig in!"

Mokou grins. "That's 'cause ya can't get enough yakitori! Although I gotta admit, I should try this whole seasoning thing more often. It really is better this way." Neneru nods in agreement, but is too busy munching on her yakitori to speak. Mokou gives a grin that almost looks fiendish. "Hmm, I wonder how the crow'd like one of these? Extra seasoned, of course."

Mokou leans back a bit, munching on a yakitori stick. "Umm, why dontcha just ask Meiling? She does martial arts, she's a youkai, she's gotta have that sorta thing, doesn't she?"

You finish the meal in silence, Shiku and Neneru handling the dishes afterwards. Mokou stands up from the table as well.

"Well, if I'm going to Youkai Mountain, I'd better get goin', huh? Gotta make sure the crow's okay too, I suppose."

You and Mokou head into the reinforced chamber, where you see Aya bunched up against a corner. It seems that what Mokou did to make her sleep easier was just to move her hands in front of her and untie the hand-foot rope, which works, you suppose. You can't tell if she's asleep or if her eyes are just closed.

Aya stares sullenly to the side. "Yeah, yeah... your hitman friend told me last night. Can we just get this over with so I can get back to making articles again?"
