According to the official site: 22 shots, 10 on goal.

It definitely felt like a lot more, especially after yet another horrid call. I feel FIFA lucked out more than the US; one sure way to put your sport under fire here is bad officiating with no replays.

I seriously had an angry post written and ready to submit, waiting for the game to end. When they say "It only takes a moment", they aren't kidding. This US team sure knows how to make this sport very fun to watch (I just wish they'd stop already before they kill me :3).

Fail refs calling penalties when there were none.

Same thing happened in the US's last game - US scores a goal, ref throws up a mysterious penalty card nullifying the goal, cannot adequately explain the penalty. Soccer rules prohibit things like replays, so they can get away with this crap all day.

The rule cited was "offsides". A player is offsides if they are behind the last defender when the ball is passed to them.

In this case, however, replays showed pretty clearly that Dempsey was lined up with the last Algerian defender, so he was fine. Blown call that thankfully didn't change the outcome of the game.

Yeah, refs are getting worse and worse from what I notice actually. It find this as some kind of call to FIFA to tell them to fucking finally implement replays to the beautiful game.

Yeah, was using penalties as in the non-soccer definition of the word; IE, they should be fined or something. Diving is cheating.

Yet Italy apparently didn't play very well the rest of group play, so I'm sure a bunch of people think they didn't deserve to move on. Still interesting to see the defending champs get utterly destroyed so early in the tournament, though.

Japan still has a decent chance today. They only need to tie to clinch the second spot.
