Watch "A game of thrones" nao.
« on: June 20, 2011, 08:07:56 AM »
So I just watched the final episode of the first season of "A game of thrones" (the next season is being produced... Not like firefly). WATCH IT NAO.
Seriously, my absolute favorite book series ("A song of fire and ice") was made into TV series, and they did a remarkable job. Ok, yes, I enjoyed the books more, there was more content, among other things, but I don't want to downplay the show, it's amazing. It has too much nudity and 18+ material for my tastes (it's like they made sure everything in the books that was sex related made it on the show, and sacrificed better material on the stark younger children to compensate, tasteless shitty decision imo), but the majority of it is still great, and it's got pretty much all the important stuff of the books on screen.

If you like reading, you REALLY should read the series ("A game of thrones" is the title of the first book, like most epic series', expect it to improve with time...Though it doesn't take too long to get good), but if you don't read much and prefer TV, by all means, the show is excellent. I enjoyed both, and plan to do both again, and again. Do whichever you prefer first, but DO EEET.

I've heard nothing but goodness about this from all my friends who've watched it, but you're the first to point out that it's also A Song of Fire and Ice. I haven't read the series myself, but I suppose I could pick it up :O

I've been reading through the first book of late. I won't lie, the internet got me to read it. I'm only about 200 pages in, but I'm really enjoying it.

In particular, this video was the last straw. :V

He is The (half-) Man.

Yes, yes, SOIAF is great.  I hated the huge pause between book 4 and the upcoming book 5, but given GRRM was spending so much time working on the TV series, I'm not as bitter anymore.

Now, on topic:

Game of Thrones is the greatest novel-to-film adaptation in history.  It is that good.  Not even joking.  Everything is perfect.

I love the Princess Bride, both the book and the movie.

I stand by my claim about Game of Thrones' adaptation.

Never heard of this series, but I might take a dab at the books.  :3

And The Princess Bride was an awesome book, I gotta watch the movie.

That is an incredibly bold claim, Edible.  I am skeptical.

But then, I got bored with the first book halfway through.  I do intend to go back and at least finish the first, but I have to say I didn't much enjoy it.

I've just finished the last episode of the season, and, as OP's been saying, it is indeed very good, and absolutely worth the investment of time. I am particularly impressed with the acting and setwork, they really make the whole thing come to life.

Song of Ice and Fire is a great series.

Game of Thrones is excellent.

More people need to watch and read it. BV
