If memory serves, this is the first time I've (willingly) worn a skirt. And while the outfit is based on this, the shoes obviously aren't the same. I still need to deal with those.
6pm.com USED to have my favorite pair of MJ's for a low price, but they've since removed them. I found them elsewhere, but at a much higher price.  Hence, the pair I was going to recommend has lost its viability. Still, there are a lot of good places to look for MJ's for a decent price, so just poke around and you're certain to find something at a decent price. Just remember that to convert from men's to women's shoes, take your current shoe size and add 1.5-2 sizes.

Edit: OH! And some knee-high nylons specifically for the costume always help. It's a convenience for me to keep things together and relatively organized.
Try some makeup! =D.
I still haven't worked on this even though I was referred to some Hollywood hide-your-5'clock-shadow makeup some 5+ months ago. :fail: :fail:

Thanks guys. It's been a long time since I've worn a costume of any kind, so it's still a bit weird doing something like this again. Never mind exactly who I'm dressing up as. :V

I got the wig from Cosplayfu, but the rest came from Trustedeal, mainly because it was the only one I could find where the skirt looked close to knee-length.

So this thing I'm doing isn't quite cosplay yet it sorta is...

Basically I'm making an outfit for a LARP that I've recently heard about and the character is in several ways based on *drumroll* Koishi. I spoke to one of the people that have been involved in the LARP before and have gotten a sorta kinda green light.

So basically the costume will be some sort of medieval styled, genderbent Koishi, with the original color scheme, hat and third eye minus the hair. It's like contemporary clothing... only backwards. I've got some stuff planned out and I might get some pictures of at least the eye when I've gotten started on it.

Yeah, so as I mentioned earlier, I decided to make a version 2 pillow, hopefully using the experience gained from the last pillow to streamline and improve the workflow from the first pillow.

This time, the pattern is one sheet. Decided this time I was gonna spend much more time aligning the pattern. Figured I'll draw the seam allowance on later. (In hindsight, this was a bad idea. Wasted much more time measuring the stupid 1/2 inch border, and then drawing that in.

Girls are now cutting....

Girls are now taping....

Using a ruler this time to make sure I tape it right.

Marking where to cut and sew on the fabric...

Actually remembered to flip over the pattern when tracing to make sure I don't have markings on the "good" side...

Girls are now cutting...

Hmm... hands are starting to get infected by the marker virus  :V

White pattern time ^_^

Trying a new technique where I pre-sew before I sew  :smokedcheese:

It wasn't very effective...

State of my hands now  :V

Hum, these lack of properly measured seamallowances are distorting the final result X_X

Decided to deal with it and keep going and see.
GET IN MAH BELLY!

Hummm, first 3 corners look acceptable...

4th corner (upper right) isn't lined up right, the sewing machine must have kept on pushing a bit of extra fabric all the way around... I should have made alignment marks on the seamallowances since the lack of corners is really making it hard to tell where one part begins and ends.

Yay, one side done!

RANDOM SIDETRACK: Decided to take some scrap red fabric and stuff it in the prop camera lens area that I'm planning to use with my Aya Shameimaru cosplay. (the camera is nonfuctional)

Now for the other side... ~1.5 weeks later (stupid job eating up all my free time). Now I have alignments marks :D

Dohhhhhh... FAIL.

I could flip it over. But it appears on this non-pilling fabric that one side is fluffier/smoother then the other side T.T

Decided to try and sew from the middle part this time instead from inside-out. Taking my sew-before-you-sew technique to the next level! Handsewing like a bawse!

Oh hey, this technique makes some pretty good corners! 2 more corners to go before I see if they all line up.

New experience to share with that Youmu outfit. You know those swirly things along her skirt? Seems like they're a kind of "pseudo-sticker", not a pattern in the skirt itself. One of them came off because it got stuck on a seat, though I was able to sew it back on okay. I'm considering putting some threads through the rest of the pseudo-stickers on the costume so that I can clean it without worrying about the swirls falling off and disappearing on me. Anyone else who's dealt with these kinds of costumes have their own way of dealing with this?

Well, I haven't made any costumes yet (so take my "advice" with a bucket of salt), but I perhaps you could put a line of topstiching around the edges of the stickers to keep them attached? That or find some better fabric glue? Are the "stickers" fabric?

Hello, hello; unexpected Kanjou posting~

I... have a favour to ask. It's simply because... I'm terrible at wig searching. To put it bluntly, every time I think I've found the right one for a character, it arrives different from the picture, and doesn't like right at all. In other words, I always end up getting the wrong wig.

So, can people help me please? I need to get hold of a wig for Yuuka Kazami; both her current hairstyle (PoFV onwards) and her long-classic hair style (PC98 / Seihou.) Links to both would be very much appreciated... Prices tend to vary for me when it comes to wig buying, so nothing too expensive~

Thank you guys~ Thanks a lot. <3

That's how I got that piece reattached, by sewing some thread around the edges of the swirl. While I would consider fabric glue, that means I would have to take every piece off first, and I'd rather avoid that.

My question is, for those who've used costumes with these pseudo-sticker pieces, are they prone to coming off when sent through a washer and/or dry cleaning?

Oh man it's been a while since I've posted...

I'm not sure what you have that's "pseudo sticker" that would be so prone to coming off (stick on felt?) but my recommendation would be to use Pellon Wonder-Under fusible web which is machine washable on delicate.  I've used it a number of times over the years - you use the iron and once it's on, it's not going anywhere, and if you're concerned about fraying you can sew around the edges.  It's what I planning on using for my Youmu outfit's swirlybits.

Actually, that stuff would also make the powerup pillows less of a pain to make too since you could make an applique of the white design (it looks like you're using something thick enough to not show through), pop it on and only have to sew the base pillow shape.  If you don't mind not having an "even" surface, something to look into!  Also, chalk instead of marker = less hand mess :3

Re: Yuka wig - with wigs, you are going to be paying some $$$ for a wig that will last a few wearings and not be a tangled mess.  Earlier in the topic myself and some others posted links to sellers.  But expect $40+ for the long wig.  Any less than that, unless you're doing a group order from China, and it's going to most likely be lousy quality.

Okay~ I had a check through and found the links in question; thanks Triangles. [By the way, you do Mami so good; I love you! <3 ]

Classic wig searching is a possible success, I think. First one here followed by this second one.
I'm leaning more towards the second one for some reason, but what do you guys think?

As for normal, short haired Yuuka, I seem to be having trouble. The only two short enough I could find (without being dead straight) were this one and yet another second one.
Out of those two, I think the first one is best; but I'm pretty sure it's not the same as what it's supposed to be.

Please tell me if I'm wrong or not. Also, feel free to tell me that I'm way off the mark, if it happens that I am, indeed, well off.
Sorry for the trouble~
And thanks again. <3

I don't have enough experience to tell what fabric the swirls are made of. ::) And I'm a bit confused about what this Pellon stuff is (first heard of it from you). Is it something you lay over two different pieces of fabric to get them to stick or something?

Yeah, I think it's this really thin "webby fabric" that acts like glue once exposed to heat. You'll need to cut it out exactly the same size as the stickers, and then heat it with an iron to melt the web and stick the two fabric together.

Bob's got it.  You iron on the webbing onto the swirly pieces which makes them like iron-on patches you can apply. Though it's much easier to iron a larger square onto some fabric and THEN cut out shapes! If doing it the other way I'd recommend snipping them a smidge smaller than your cutout, as it otherwise can slip and get all over your iron since it is pretty much a form of glue and yuck it's can make a mess.
Depending on the condition of your outfit you may be ok just patching them the swirly bits up as needed or might want to redo them all from scratch if alot are falling off  :ohdear:

Re: wigs - measure from the top of your head to get an idea for length!  Long Wig #1 will probably be too short, maybe even #2 too.  My Meiling wig was 36" and I'm 5'3"  And you can always cut a slightly longer wig down to size.

Oh and I somehow missed the Dr. Eirin outfit - nice!

Yeah, most of them are still in good condition, it's just that one that got stuck on the seat that caught me off guard. I think I'll just sew through them a bit to ensure no more will fall off in the future.

EDIT: And the dress' first run through the wash proved my hunch correct. Seems whatever was holding the swirls to the skirt wore off, though the extra stitching I put through each of them held up just fine. Who knows, I might look into using Pellon if I end up piecing together more costumes, though I still won't be wearing this one that often anyway. Plus the threads give it a bit more of a homemade look, provided you're looking close enough to see them. :V

More progress (progress is slow T.T)

Yay, all 4 corners sewn together! Barely notice any heavy distortion or pinching of the fabric around the corners!

Now for the center piece....

Rear of it:

The red border now... with a new technique to help align and keep the corner fabric "bunched up evenly" while presewing... Time will tell if Frankenstein here will be effective...

More pre-sewing before I sew. Hum, dirty hands... luckily this marker washes off pretty easily.

The brainszz of Frankenstein! Actually the center P curve >_<. Stupid alignment. This stupid P took the longest to sew since it kept on shifting a bit while handsewing - then it'll screw up the alignment and bunch the fabric a bit. Had to redo this 3 times. Not sure if I want to do the P last... since all the extra fabric made it harder to maneuver during the machine sewing stage.

IT'S ALIV- I mean done! Not bad! Also took the time to fix the ugly corner on the first side (this was the 2nd side).

Casualties of the war so far: Poor softsoap was depleted in this project. And using a toiletpaper roll as a pincushion? F*cking smart.

This makes 2/2 sides done. All that's left is to trim the seams a bit and then sew them together (hopefully remembering to leave a gap to stuff with XD
