Yeah I was just rereading that...I blame my drunkenness for my previous fail post.

For some reason I cant get the game to run...

With AND without the english patch?
Anyway get the updates, it took awhile to figure out how to use them, you DO have to manually use the browse button to select the folder, in addition, you have to re-run the second patch like 3 times until it says that 1-18 or whatever it was (in the udm file UI). Use applocale for the patches too.

THEN install the english stuff.

Don't forget to applocale the actual game too >=). And turn off BGM for the coach.

I just played this for the first time today. I think I suck, I struggled to beat the second stage...Or maybe my luck sucks, like 5-8 of my goalie-beating shots (including a fantasy seal) hit the post, and china has yet to manage a single save. Kinda worried I'll get pwnt on stage 3 >=(.

But anyway it's very fun, I really appreciate the translation efforts by everyone involved! I'm going to look for some info via the wiki or stuff on this game. If there are any sites anybody can suggest that might not be easily found on Touhou wiki list them please. Some things are not very clear. For example, the instructions don't really say what the time sign gauge is for and what a goalie "jump" is (it mentions the stat, but fails to mention the action as a whole). I've also seen on youtube videos that Mima's twilight spark is the best single-player shot in the game, and yukari/yuyuko's save is the best save, etc, etc. But when I play the game, I do not see any stats or ways to determine how "powerful" special moves are, so I figure there must be such info somewhere (though maybe not in English).

I don't know how much the translation is localized or whatever, but it seems to read pretty natural to me. I mean when I play an ordinary Touhou game I find myself scratching my head at some of the lines. Remilia saying Reimu murdered Sakuya when Sakuya is obviously alive is an example, or Rumia's 4 fingers comment. I mean that might be the best translation, I don't know, but nothing I've seen so far in this one makes me go "huh"? Touhou labyrinth has some lines thick with Japanese pop-culture that do not translate well, not that I'm complaining about it!

Pretty sure I saw one silly typo though, now I forget what it was, I'll mention them if I see em though >=)

It seems that the patch doesn't handle Final Spark very well. Even when Marisa's border is activated, the shot still says Master Spark and Marisa's "announcement" is also still that of Master Spark's.

Anyways, I tried the main scenario. The real final match is hard :( Dude's got waaaaaay too much power.

As far as I can tell, if the gauge below the timer is at 80% or more on the blue side, you stop regenerating Guts. I assume it works the same on the red side for the enemy, but since CPU teams have infinite Guts, it's a moot point.

I'm not sure what the specifics of a goalie's Jump command are, but I do know that if it fails, you're leaving the net wide open.

As for special moves and such, the wiki has some information on that, although I have no clue where this information came from. Yuka's Double Spark is pretty hilariously weak, and Letty's SGGK is stronger than even Yukari's combo save, IIRC.

For example, the instructions don't really say what the time sign gauge is for and what a goalie "jump" is (it mentions the stat, but fails to mention the action as a whole).

From soccer_English.cfm (HTML help file):

Goalkeeper Encounter 1
Occasionally, the goalkeeper may be given the possibility of jumping out from goal. There are two choices in this case.

Jump (Jump from the goal and attempt to steal the ball)
Stay (Stay at the goal.)
If the Jump command fails, the goal will be left empty, which becomes a huge danger for your team. The goalkeeper will return to goal in a short while, so do your best to prevent the opponents from shooting until then.

Stay can basically be seen as "Not Jumping".

[...]

Jump
Influences the success rate of the goalkeeper's "Jump" command.
Jump has an even higher success rate than Clear, but if the action fails or the ball only gets knocked away, the goal will be empty.
It's a risky action, so think carefully before you use it.

Time Sign Gauge
The Time Sign Gauge is displayed while dribbling.

The Time Sign Gauge increases as you perform actions with the ball, and once it reaches 80%, the time counter stops decreasing. Dribbling with the ball for a long time will cause the Time Sign Gauge to increase quickly, so always aim to make progress towards the opponent's goal.

When only 5 minutes of the half remains, the Time Sign Gauge will disappear. By the way, time also never stops decreasing if the opponent has the ball.

All the shot/save/pass/etc info was extracted from the game's internal .csv files. The english wiki info should be accurate regarding those as far as I can tell. (So yes, you can modify Double Spark to be the strongest shot in the game if you want)

Moushuuden thankfully had far, far less obscure references-per-line than Labyrinth, and almost all of them were relegated to the item descriptions. It also helped that I had NForza checking my work and making it flow better in english this time around, for the stuff I translated.

It seems that the patch doesn't handle Final Spark very well. Even when Marisa's border is activated, the shot still says Master Spark and Marisa's "announcement" is also still that of Master Spark's.

It's only called "Final Spark" and "Neo Fantasy Heaven" in the commentary after you score with it in the Japanese version as well. The exact same string is used for the shot declaration for both sparks, so it couldn't be modified more appropriately.

Yeah I saw this, it explains how it grows and shrinks and stuff, but why should I care? I don't know what a full/empty meter means. Do my dudes dribble faster? Does Rumia get hungier? Does the number of "packs" that Rinnosuke have change? Anyway that info should probably go under a new topic for help me Eirin or something. I'd make one but I don't like making threads asking questions until I know enough about a game to make a few tips for new people myself >=P

Someone already explained that they think it changes guts recovery, which could be it I guess.

Sounds to me like it serves the same purpose as a shot clock in basketball: it keeps you from going up 1-0 and then sitting in your own backfield running out the clock.

I try to do that as much as the game allows me, it generally works :V

Anyway for as much as I've experienced, the patch is stable and works well. Good job guys. :D

And I really appreciate the translation of the manual, answers a number of questions I've had about the game.

Pretty much this.  What he quoted from the help file basically means that if you're holding onto the ball long enough to push that gauge over 80%, time will no longer run off the clock.  So, if you hit that point with 10:30 left in the half, the clock will just sit there at 10:30 and you can't just run the clock out.

I have the problem that the game is patched fine, but it runs incredibly choppy.  Is there some way to fix this?  I mean, it stutters during every action, the only time the game runs smoothly is when it runs a movie shot.

Edit:  I have fixed it after all, it is the NVidia drivers being completely terrible past a certain date.  My friend suggested rolling back to 182.06, and this worked like a charm.

Beat the main scenario yay. Didn't notice any issues yet other than master spark not being labelled final spark under the menu when Marisa is in border of death mode (though someone already mentioned it).

I've been having problems running the game in english
It works in japanese just fine but when i add english.pak to the packages folder it gives me a generic error encountered message
It's probably with patching the game (i don't really know what im doing with that since it's all in japanese :()
i downloaded the files (THS2_2-g-0b and THS2_2-i-0a) the first one only seems do anything when i apply it to the plugins folder (it adds a packages folder with image4.pak inside and a text document named version that just says 2-16-0 (2007/02/19))
The next one also only works with the plugins folder but apparently only changes that text document in plugins to say 2-18-0 (2007/05/20) the version text document in the original packages folder never changes
any help would be much appreciated :)

Found a translation bug-thing. I was playing China's sub-scenario, match 3.  I was dribbling up to the goal guarded by koakuma (or however you spell it), who also was the defense in that match. she approached me (the defense one, not the gk one I think), I chose dribble, Meiling said "you're going down", then I succeeded in dodging her, at which point she responded in Japanese.

edit: Another minor one. When a kickoff is about to start and you wait for Rinnosuke to do his little speech, near the end when he says "there is a culprit somewhere, there has to be" it gets cut off the screen.

I honestly don't remember too much about how the game's patches work. I'm pretty sure they shouldn't only be working in the plugins folder though, so it's possibly skipping modifying some of the files that it should be modifying in that case.

I'm assuming you didn't replace system.ini until AFTER running the patches; if you did, then try again with the old system.ini. Otherwise, try moving image4.pak to the packages folder as well if you haven't yet.

Well resurrecting this thread since IM having a weird issue...

I cna run the game if my pc is set ot english but I dont have text if I run it like that and it just gives me an error if I try to run it with my pc set in japanese or with applocale...

So how are you people running the patched version?

Maybe Im using the patches in the wrong order?

I got these 3 from the website:
THS2_2-g-0a.exe
THS2_2-g-0b.exe
THS2_2-i-0a.exe

In what order should I use em?

More issues!

So I reinstalled the whole game, applied the updates and then the patch...

now configE.exe is giving me a weird directGraphics issue regarding directx9 in moonspeak...which  didnt have before....and teh game still gives me a weird error x.x

Hi I am new here, and new to Touhou. I can play the fully patched version of this but when I install the English patch I get the typical windows crash report box when I try to run the game using applocal of course. However if I replace the english patch system ini with the original it works again or.

Help would be appreciated :3

I don't think you would have to go far as putting a download link up. it seems to me from my experience that there is a conflict with the ini and the .exe

For everyone who's having problems with crashes in the game, I'm highly suspicious that this is again due to an error in patching, since the files that's added honestly does not change much, and should definitely be able to work as long as you can play the original game in Japanese the first place. So if you're still having problems, please try to delete, reinstall the game, and follow these steps:

1. Go to http://www.hachikuma.net/Download.html
2. Do a CTRL+F for "東方サッカー猛蹴伝" (the second hit will bring you to its patches)
3. Download the following: # 2-16-0(一括) (filename: THS2_2-g-0b.exe) and 猛蹴伝のパッチ(2-18-0) (filename: THS2_2-i-0a.exe). Put them in your Touhou Soccer Moushuuden folder.
3.5. If you want to be super-safe, rename the folder that holds Touhou Soccer Moushuuden to "東方サッカー猛蹴伝" (the default name).
4. Run THS2_2-g-0b.exe. I believe this file must be run in AppLocale if you are not playing in Japanese locale.
5. Click Yes on the first confirmation dialogue box.
6. On the second dialogue box, click on the rightmost button and choose your Touhou Soccer Moushuuden  folder. Click on OK.
7. Watch the updater do its work. When it's done, compared the output in the lower section of the window with the following:

8. Check if a Version.txt has been created in the game's folder, and Image4.pak has been created in the Packages folder. If both of these have been done, you've (probably) run the update successfully.

12. Check Version.txt. If it says 2-18-0, and the log matches the one above, you've probably updated correctly.
13. Run the game in AppLocale if needed to see if it works in Japanese. If it doesn't, this is probably a graphics card or system locale  problem of some sort.
14. Follow the instructions in the English patch readme.
15. Run the game in AppLocale if needed. The game should hopefully work in English now.

The only thing the english system.ini does is replace the game's Japanese title bar into the English equivalent, and puts a reference to English.pak. If AzureDemon had the same problem as you, that also sounds like you may have applied the patches incorrectly. If the game works fine with the "Japanese" system.ini, then try and open it and paste this line shown below exactly in between:

If Image4.pak is not in the Packages folder, then the updating has already failed; in my experiments, forcing the update installer to fail can place image4.pak in very strange places. The above instructions should hopefully work for you.

For the people who are lazy (like moi) I have uploaded a working version of Touhou Soccer 2 that's already patched. Unzip the first link since it contains the instructions (hint: it's the .txt file with the word instructions in it's name), the following two have the .paks that should go into the packages folder.
