Must resist urge to create FaceBook account...

Tengukami:

There were Firefox and Chrome users saying the site worked fine, although there were some uploading issues. YouTube songs play for a short while and then skip when they play at all. The chat can be laggy. But, when the songs upload, it works better than LR.

Conqueror:

I tried playing a few Youtube songs. It worked perfectly for a few songs. Then it stopped in the middle of a song, skipped to the middle of another song far down the playlist, went backwards through the playlist, and cut off half the time from the songs that it played. So yeah...

Otherwise, the functionality looks good. I haven't had any problems with uploading songs directly from my library yet, non-English doesn't seem to be a problem. and it's nice that you can upload multiple songs in one go. The volume control is also a nice touch, and I like the progress bar.

Iryan:

So wait, you NEED a facebook account for that?

Whyyyyyy...

It's annoying, but you can always create an alternate facebook account relatively quickly.

Hopefully they remove the "facebook only" part...but that suggestion's almost a year in the making.

--- Quote ---Just wanted to provide a bit of background on why, at least for the moment, we've set up MixApp to require login via Facebook --

This was ultimately an issue of limited resources on our part. We needed a way to integrate social networking functionality quickly and easily, and for the many, many people who use Facebook regularly, a Facebook-based account provided the functionality we needed with relatively little software development effort -- so we see this as the best way to grow the MixApp community while we're getting off the ground.

To be sure, nothing is set in stone, and in the future I expect we'll integrate with Twitter, OpenID, OAuth, OpenSocial, and every other single sign on or social graph system with enough traction to make sense. However, given MixApp's friend-based nature this is a non-trivial development task compared to the simplicity of the Facebook-only setup, and for now we need to focus on more immediate goals.

For what it's worth, the rest of the MixApp team and I also have concerns about Facebook's attitude towards privacy and control, and we're eager to get the resources we need to give you a choice on this front.

If you'd like to know when we have a non-Facebook login option, please let me know (brahn at mixapp dot com), and I'll shoot you an email when we do. Until then, I really appreciate your patience as we try to get MixApp off the ground.
