EoSD English patch
« on: January 07, 2011, 05:37:35 PM »
I'm just wondering which file the Touhou English patch goes into on EoSD? Because I don't want to put it in a random file then end up messing the whole game up. Help?

There's the problem, you're missing quite a few .dat files that the patch needs to run.

You probably want to reinstall the game, post-haste.
Spoiler:
And read the forum rules as well.  You did read them, right?

Okay, I'll try that. Thanks.

And yes, I did read the rules, but I can't see anything I did wrong. Maybe I'm just being unobservant.

Thanks :)

edit: I'm trying to install it but the Japanese characters don't show up on my computer and I can't read Japanese anyway so I need the English patch, but like you saw it won't install, so I'm confused.

This should be what it originally looked like.

It should look something similar to this after running the english patch.
http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=rbbzt7h9ukw9xa7&thumb=4
(note that the th06e.exe and custom_e.exe are what the english patch made)
(another note that th06e.exe is put in japanese in my pic because of the vsync patch)

Edit: For the japanese characters, you might want to have your computer in Japanese locale. It should be in your system settings somewhere, like in the control panel.

You need Asian text support installed if you're using Windows XP.  You should install it anyway, so you have less problems all around.  Go to Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages > Enable everything under Supplemental language support.  You'll probably need an XP disk as well so the files can be copied over.

[Edit]  Oh crap, you use Vista.  =<

Asian text support should be installed in Vista by default. And judging by the first screenshot, Glimmery15's computer can display the characters.

I take it he/she is trying to run the installer while not in japanese locale, thus the "japanese characters not showing".

Anyway, you should change the system locale at the control panel -> Clock, Language and Region -> Change Keyboard or other input methods -> Admin. Or simply look for an icon of the Earth + a clock and it's only entry, assuming you're in the default view of the control panel. If you don't want to change language settings to japanese, you can still run applocale:

http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,25.0.html (Yeah, it says to downgrade but you can run it on Vista)

I can't remember if the installer automatically tries to run as admin, but you WILL need to do that for it to install. After that, if you want to install EoSD in the Program Files folder (or any other folder that requires admin access)... Run a command prompt as admin (from the start menu, right click command prompt and select "Run as administrator"), then browse to C:\Windows\AppPatch and run AppLoc.exe.

...If you don't really want to run the installer, all the files the game needs are in the CD's "kouma" folder. But you might need to use applocale or change to japanese settings to install the english patch.

When I say the Japanese characters aren't showing, I mean when I try to install it the window just comes up with a bunch of question marks, like so:

http://i51.tinypic.com/zoavr5.png

This happens even after I've changed my settings to Japanese. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it's annoying. How do you run a command prompt as admin?
Sorry if I'm annoying you.

Edit: I've sorted out the character problem. Now I'm just not sure about what to do about the missing files. Oh, and do I need to unzip the files in my folder?

The question marks shouldn't show up if running on japanese locale.

http://i53.tinypic.com/10qxnr8.jpg

The button to change the regional setting is highlighted in blue in the screenshot. It's the last tab on the regional settings window. You need to change that to Japanese, then the system will ask you to restart. If you have done that already, then... Maybe try installing applocale. Your computer is displaying the filenames properly, so having support for asian languages shouldn't be the problem...

Regarding the missing files... As I said, they all should be on the game's CD. That's all the help I can provide in that matter.

Thanks, the question marks problem is sorted now.

I still can't find the missing files. I got the game from JBOX, is that site dodgy or something?
