I think I'm going to have to give this a try beyond episode 1.

2ch Madoka discussion threads have also breached wayyy past top place for all previous anime. The count is taken for the total time it's on the air, from episode 1 until the next season start.
Haruhi previously held the record at 464; Madoka is currently at 782 threads. Each thread is 1000 posts.

Episode 1 of Madoka is not at all indicative of the entire show! My sister discovered this the hard way... She was bored to tears through the beginning, but she really likes Madoka Magika now.

Fractale ep 10 is leading up to a great climax. The last 30 seconds made me want to wash my brain though.

Man, I need to catch up. Only seen up to ep. 5 of Fractale, ep. 1 of Level E, and haven't seen Star Driver in 3 weeks. Haven't even started Madoka. Perhaps this week will give me enough time.

EDIT: 5Ds and Fractale to go.

Just watched the first ten episodes of Madoka over the past few days, and yes, it's worth catching up on. This is like "Lars von Trier makes a magic girl anime".

Somehow I have a feeling I know how it's going to wrap up, but Fractale has surprised me before. And even if it does end the way I think it will, it's still been, at the very least, an above-average and enjoyable series. With a kick-ass OP.

Yeah, Moeran being all bipolar and Dias's antics have been pretty foreshadowing. That blob of terminals definitely isn't indicating anything at all. Neither is his cliche white hair and charismatic demeanor. Not at all. Oh and everyone being roughly in place for the Godsbirth is a complete coincidence.

Sometimes all you want from the final episode is for the animators to not fuck it up. Though good, Fractale's finale did not avoid this fate entirely.
Spoiler:
For instance, if the temple was blowing up as they rose, how the fuck did Phrynessa and Claine get back down?! Speaking of Phrynessa, what was with her dialogue waking up? Though it fits Nessa to a T, it's still not exactly the "good morning" i was expecting. Who randomly spouts out "I like likeing" within 3 seconds after coming out of a coma?
Overall I've seen much worse, but still kind of disappointed with how it played out.

Overall a pretty good, beautiful series, which is all one could ask for this season. Just feel like the last 2-3 episodes really wasted potential for an epic finale.

EDIT:
Spoiler:
I admit the revelation that Phryne was the key solely because the original Phryne was also raped as a child (insinuated by her father as well) was a very nice, albeit tragic, touch.

Now to catch up on Level E, GoSick, and Wandering Son.

I'm saving the last episode of Fractale for tonight, but for me, the only good side about this series ending is that the dude from Cartdriver will stop whining about it. I have no idea why he keeps reviewing each episode, when he's said from episode 2 that he doesn't like the series, and in his reviews it's obvious he's not even actually watching what's happening/reading the dialog. His reviews of Bakuman have been pretty spot on, however (although he keeps talking about how he's not going to talk about how bad the romance in the series is, which is passive-aggressive reviewing if I ever saw it).

"The original Phryne" being
Spoiler:
God
.

This might be a stretch, but I thought
Spoiler:
the real story was revealed when we meet God for the first time. There's a teenaged girl who looks very much like Phryne, and has a stuffed rabbit named Nessa. She speaks somewhat childishly, like Nessa, and the video is ended abruptly when she says her father appears. Remember what Phryne's father said: "It turned out God's age was not 10 but 16, just like this Phryne. Yes, God created a 10-year-old's personality and hid herself in it. Due to a certain traumatic experience, I should say." There's a microcosm vs. macrocosm dynamic going on - God and her stuffed rabbit are parallels of Phryne and Nessa. I think this might - might - suggest that the entire Fractale world exists in the mind of a normal 16-year-old girl with a father very much like Phryne's.

Is that a twist that's been done before? Sure has. But the way there was a beautiful ride, and it felt actually a bit heartbreaking rather than contrived.

The series, to me, didn't have a central message, I don't think. It played with the dynamics of organised religion, ideologically-motivated violence, and technology creating a social disconnect (not a new theme in anime), without trying to take a side one way or the other. It was hard to sympathize with the Temple or with LM - both sides did terrible things, and had terrible people in their midst, as well as good ones.

What was fun about that was what it did to Clain, who's confronted with wanting to keep Phryne away from the Temple, but also being horrified but the things LM does, while not really having any other options.
Spoiler:
Clain, I felt was the 16-year-old girl's conscious - dealing with both her much younger self, and emotionally damaged current self, wanting to unite these two broken pieces of her personality, and heal.

The "ecchi! ecchi!" got old pretty quick, but they weren't enough to make me dislike this series. The pace is pretty relaxed until the final episodes, but I felt it delivered.

Not quite done with everything but a quick summation

Level-E: So many great surprises by taking a tired old genre and spinning it so the result you expect turns out to be something completely different. Puttered around without a plot to keep me interested for too long, though. Also, Pierrot had the resources and funds for this?! Such a pleasant surprise!

Fractale: Somewhere in between Last Exile and the Matrix. Wasn't either, but still fun. Could've benefited from a longer, more fleshed-out plot.

Wandering Son: Finally, an instance of greater gender insecurity than us here at MotK! Chizuru deserves her own series. She's the star of the show by accident. Other characters I had a tough time liking. Makoto is the first character since Chuckie Finster from Rugrats to be so weak-willed that I couldn't bring myself to have empathy for.

Madoka Magica: Every couple of years something comes out that makes me think "thank you for being Japan, Japan" and this is it. I can't wait for the remaining episodes regardless of outcome and I want a second season so bad.

I think
Spoiler:
"HURR IT WAS ALL A DREAM"
is a pretty oversimplified way to look at what they were doing here. Rather than sweeping logic and explanations under the rug,
Spoiler:
on the contrary, every character and event in Fractale now revealed another aspect of the life of "God" - the Temple being the status quo of her home (shut up and do as you're told, and everything will be taken care of for you) to LM being her rebellion against her family life, to the different characters reflecting aspects of her own personality often in violent conflict with each other. Even the title of the series itself suggests identical microcosms within microcosms.
So I think the ending did the exact opposite of "cop out" - that would only be the case if nothing that happened in Fractale reflected a different aspect of the life and inner struggle of the "true main character". The technical aspects of the future world were not explained, in other words, because that's not what the series was actually about - rather than write off what could not be explained, the macrocosm and microcosm were finally brought together as a well-meshed whole, explaining everything about the real story.

There are still two more episodes. And the "Walpurgis" is a real thing; it's the 30th of April. Hopefully it won't take that long, but if this spring's choices fall through, I could easily watch Madoka a second time while I'm waiting. I love the way that story unfolds.

All the discussion on here made my curiosity finally get the better of me and I started watching Madoka. I'm up to about episode 6 now and I think it is quite good.
I didn't find it TOO terribly depressing, despite how bleak it is, but a while after watching it a cloud of "bummer, man" descended upon me and I had to listen to Dragon Soul for three minutes to shake it off.
Also I FREAKING LOVE how trippy and surreal the witches and witchspace are.

So, just watched the last episode of Bakuman. I thought I would be excited to hear that there's going to be a second season, but really, this entire series has been about watch these two guys chase after their dreams for 25 episodes. Now they're done it. So what's left, the romance?
Spoiler:

I dunno, seems like we could be having an Arakawa 2 situation here: a second season that, while based on a great anime, has little to offer by way of story apart from "let's watch these characters you're familiar with ... doin' thangs."

Yeah, Madoka has a pretty slow, dark, and sad vibe to it. But somehow, it gets me thinking... (such as happiness and sadness "smoothening out" and the world staying in balance)

Wow... the ending of Yumekui merry was bad.... really really bad.

Spoiler:
Either that or I missed something. They didn't finish off Parade so that Isana wouldn't lose her Dream. Then in the final fight Merry punches him into oblivion regardless and Isana doesn't lose her dream...? Also hated the whole 'Power of will = strength in the dream world' thing was just a lame excuse to be able to beat a clearly overpowered enemy so they could finish the series'
