Are we allowed to talk about anime that spilled over from last season here? I ask because last time I tried a currently running anime thread, it was locked, and the specific anime threads didn't get many posts.

Just as Bakuman was becoming "that anime I'm still following because it isn't outright offending me but it isn't exactly thrilling me anymore", episode 17 comes along and my interest gets drawn right back in. Finally, we're seeing some real tension here, as the show relies on its strength - exploring the world of manga publishing - and ignores the frankly piss-weak romance save for all but 30 seconds to remind us "oh yeah there's these two people too".

"Human history and growth are both linked closely to strife. Without conflict, humanity would have no impetus for growth. When humans are satisfied with their present condition, they may as well give up on life."

Just catching up since I was out of the loop for more than two weeks. After some poking, I think I've got my four for the season with Fractale, Level E, and one of a few others that I haven't had much time for yet, plus Puella Madoka Whatevertheface Happy Pretty Magical Girl With Surrealistic Imagery And Shaft Being Shaft Fun TIme Creepy Guy Demographic But With Great Direction, Pacing, Voice Work, and Other Merits Show being... really good.

Oh, and I totally spoilered myself already with something on that one. Curiosity is a sign of both intelligence and stupidity.

Sort of my feeling about ep 4.The actual "story" of the episode was fantastic. More underground organisations investigating the aliens, the reveal, and the morality drama of the alien in question was really great. But those last two minutes, completely separate from the story - and which was right down there with "it was all just a dream" - seemed kinda tacked on.

Is what most people who already dropped it are going to say to that. I mean FOUR EPISODES? That's like a month I had to wait for it to be worthy. You missed your chance last week at the three episode mark. :V

I should stop watching old stuff when I'm also pretty much watching almost everything that's not a sequel this season. orz

Hurr Puella episode 3. Partially saw it coming, partially had it spoiled, but still.

Also, Wandering Son is my fourth and final locked-in series. What can I say? I'm curious.

Watched a bit of Freezing today.  So far, the cast has been unlikable (especially the male lead), the story makes little sense, the world building is poor, but the CG bus is a thing of beauty.

The show's been so stupid that I couldn't even enjoy the plot, and by plot I mean tits.

it is Korean, you must think Korean to enjoy this. and by this, I mean you must at least liked Winter Sonata and the sort of brash idea related things to like Freezing.

But basically what the idea is that other dimensional aliens have appeared on earth pretty much several years before, in response, the world united and created what looked like a school of weapon manufacturing in the form of school girls which are trained to kill and maim those aliens. It just so happens being in this school of fierce females is also a bad thing, as rivalry between them seemed rife and they really don't go well together.

In this part, you must sorta must look at previous Korean manga and stuff by the author, and most other Korean authors, they seem to have a tendency to insert characters with a lot of emotions, like overblowing with it, I mean, these are the sort of characters whom say... if someone was drowing in a pool, they'd bring a submarine and a rescue team. (evidently, this happened in Flow, another Korean manga about superpowered schoolchildren).

But anyway, the story is not quite that nice yet, at some point behind you may find it more enjoyable as Kazuya's past gets deeper and deeper.

Yeah, see, this is why I was detracted to the premise of Freezing. I don't care how innovative people are trying to call that kind of premise, it still seems to scream "TITS EVERYWHERE" and "generic-as-shit male lead w/ typical busty female heroines" and it's just really offputting to me. And claiming that people have to "think Korean" is easier said than done. Some people just /can't/. I know I can't. It's no different from taking that premise and replacing the ingredient of "killer school girls" with "killer super robots," and the whole rivalry dynamic to me seems like a cop-out for some potential character-driven interaction, it seems so BORING. And generic. Did I mention Freezing has just screamed "generic snoozefest" to me?

I realize that Freezing is likeable by a good population on people. This is NOT a knock on the show itself. I know people like it. But I know people are going to ask me why I dislike a show that is on the popularity rise this season. So I am explaining it now.

well, anyone who deems Zombie deska as unworthy of their time should regret~, episode 4 marks the true beginning of its story!

An anime shouldn't have to take four fucking episodes to "mark a true beginning of its story." 2 episodes is alright. 3 is pushing it. But 4? NO.

I told you. :derp:

Let's have a review of episode 3s so far:
Dragon Crisis: The MC stops being a pussy, confesses his love, and rescues his girlfriend.
Fractale: Terrorists and government conspiracy.
Gosick: The thrilling conclusion of Box's Revenge.
Level E: MAXIMUM TROLLING.
Puella Magi: Something about heads. IDK, I'm not watching this show. A. T. M.
Wandering Son: Bras and culture festival cross-dressing plays.
Yumekui Merry: Male MC and Female MC begin their partnership.
IS: MC continues to be a complete blockhead while adding China to his international harem.
Onii-chan: MC gets stalked on his date, then faps like fist of the north star.
Rio: Chicken Wings used as a plot point.
Zombie: MC goes bowling and pays his friend's friend a visit in the hospital. His harem fights over pudding.

It's clear which shows are quality this season.
Spoiler:
Hint: it's the last 4.

bah, your win / loss I guess.
I mean, for me, I wouldn't give up Fist of The North Star in the middle because fightan did not happen or it doesn't advance beyond ATATATATATA.
The same reason goes for this, if you stick for a bit, it might be fun, meanwhile, just keep in the ride. (I do this for most anime I watched with a slow beginning, I never give up thinking it is some intense plot and shit and must be revealed in the first 2 episodes. Probably AIR is one of such shows and I am keen to say it is the best I watched for its genre. )

For me, Freezing is an ok show, it is exciting because there is gory action, and I don't mind that. IS is fun because lol VAs from Strike Witches, and because it is so similiar but not quite, it also reminds me of sakura wars and I love sakura wars. Zombie deska is as said before, just beginning. Leaving this season and last season's watchable champ standing high above the others: FUCKING STAR DRIVER.

I don't really like Dragon crisis, Yumekui Merry is really nice tho, can't help seeing Touhou in Merry and seeing her as some Yukari failure wannabe... Rio: dropped like its hot. Oniichan is straight out perverted, but like all overt shows of this fashion, it gives me brain aids and I don't like it too much to continue.

This episode of Madoka spilled something pretty hilarious. As long as Sayaka hunts witches, Madoka will be there to support. Because Kyubey is around Sayaka and also Madoka, if Sayaka is in danger of dying, Madoka might contract. So, Homura has to follow them around to make sure Madoka doesn't contract. Herpa derpa derp.

QB Kyubey asking for people to make their wishes is now a common sight in Nico channel. Goes with the whole magical girl thing in Zombie too.

Another thing to bring up. Mitsudomoe keeps track of every student in the class, but Madoka can't.

it was no surprise for me, since I sort of know IS has NO BOYS other than Ichika. (which btw is an eyesore).

Bakuman 18: The first half gives us a rather long exposition - through a number of characters - on the subject of What's Wrong With The Manga Industry. Then the second half comes and we start to see the cracks forming in the founding friendship. TENSION!

Fractale 4: This show continues to get better. The moral ambiguity of the two factions involved is really nice; it's hard to see any absolute good or bad guys. There were some minor inconsistencies, but I don't think it took away from the overall story, which left me waiting on the next episode impatiently. Great stuff.

I only noticed during Fractale 4 that they throw the ads across the screen on purpose, only during scenes that directly involve the Fractale system.

It's so subtle I thought they were just random ads with no purpose whatsoever but really it's kind of neat.
