RemiDoki discussion is go.

New Super Marisa Land really overshadowed this game at C78, I think.  Even though I got it then, I didn't bother playing it until yesterday at 11 AM, and couldn't stop playing it until about 5 AM :V  Great little platformer, really addicting, with quite the difficulty range to it (while I found most of Remilia's story to be rather simple, the extra stage has me pulling my hair out in frustration).

Protip for those starting out: Spear the Gungnir (and even moreso Starbow Break with Flandre) completely breaks the game.

Yeah I saw this game awhile back, IMO it looks better than super Marisa land and touhouvania 2. But someone said that it's actually difficult to understand if you don't know English so I thought I'd hold off for awhile

That's exactly why I held off on playing it for so long.  Turns out, that's not true in the slightest.  The only things that are really necessary to know are room names and item effects.  The former are still in english on the map, and the latter both has translations on touhouwiki, and can be deduced from "HP/MP" and percentages.

By the way, have I mentioned how much I love this game's music yet?

Nice, thats what I was expecting from touhouvania... I'm not prone to wanting to try platformers but I definitely wanna give this a go.

The other platformer I had my eye on was that demo people were raving about. I think you play as a yukkuri with a cape, and there seems to be some kind of sword combat with a rather impressive looking combo model?

I haven't heard a peep of that game for months.
This one is/always was higher on my list though =).

If you don't know English? Shouldn't be too much of a problem for people around here. Don't you mean Japanese?

Yeah I meant Japanese dork.
What's the difficulty level btw? Is it adjustable?

They need to hurry up and release Takkoman.  Even if it's just a one-stage demo, that game is amazing ;-;

Honestly, I'm not sure if there are adjustable difficulties, I never bothered to look.  The stages themselves range from "really easy" to "oh jesus christ ;-;" in difficulty, but the learning curve isn't too steep.  That, and you don't need to put up with the really hard stuff until you start playing as characters other than Remi.

I've just been wandering about destroying these red things until it said CLEAR or something like that. Don't know what the heck I'm buying either.

It's difficult to understand. It's not as straightforward as New Super Marisa Land and Scarlet Symphony are.

Here's where you should go and what you should get first.

Guest Room 1: West Path Door key.
Room of Meiling: Training Room key.
Training Room: High Jump. Must have at least 500 energy, then talk to Meiling.
Room of Maid Chief: Spear the Gungrir. Talk to Sakuya twice.
Library: Demon Lord. Talk to Koakuma.

After you take care of that, head for Maid Room 6 and get the key from there to get into the dining room.

Thanks. The next time I feel bored enough to play, I'll try these.

Just figured out that the extra stage changes based on the character you pick.  Apparently playing as Yuyuko means having less life and added puzzles, because I just tried it with Remilia and found I had one more hit point and the puzzles on each stage had vanished.

Which sucks, because the puzzles are annoying and I like Yuyuko more. :ohdear:

After you beat the game once, two other characters become available to use, one of which is only available for the extra stage (clock tower).  Those characters are
Spoiler:
Flandre
and
Spoiler:
Yuyuko
.

...I don't  think the spoiler tags are really necessary due to one being mentioned in patch notes, and the other being featured in the trailer itself, but yeah. :V

EDIT: Almost forgot, IT'S DECEMBER NOW. :V

[attach=1]

EDIT2:

>get to end of extra
>go to pause halfway through boss fight
>hit esc out of habit

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- :colonveeplusalpha:

Extra's a lot easier with Remi, though.  Still took an hour and a half regardless. :(

I tried this game out a few months ago, but never really got the hang of the rather shoddy controls. The electric tiles killed me more often than any of the enemies in the game. I mean, I did pretty well in those megaman games where you had to time your jumps a lot, but some of these dungeons actually require you to time your jump after you fall off the edge. I haven't made it through the Library stage, it's a bit annoying when you have no healing items, and a single slip in the controls gets you killed.

Electric tiles are probably the toughest part of the game until you start encountering enemies with spellcards.  I finally got used to the spacing needed to slip by them after an hour of rage in the extra stage, though.  Focused movement (W) helps immensely though.

And get healing items if you need them, silly. :V

I don't know how :ohdear:

And I didn't know about the focused movement either. I had to spend a lot of my time jumping in place to avoid the fairies and knights.

Third option on the map screen menu.  First item is candy that heals 1 HP, second is cookies that heal either 2 or 3 (I forget), third one is cake that fully recovers HP.  use them in-game by pausing with D, then choosing the third option.  When selecting an item on that menu, the second option uses it, and the first option binds it to Q for easy use.

Also when you kill enemies, the green orbs give you HP.  I think they drop more of them if you get larger combos going, though that might just be placebo.

I'm still raging through the library, I must've failed a couple dozen times now on that same electric tile. If I even nick the tip of it, I die. This seriously gives no room for error. If you're off by a pixel, you're screwed. And that's pretty hard to do when momentum actually doesn't carry through in this game.

And then there's the puzzles with those worms. If you even screw up by accidentally hitting a tile to charge a shot, you have to do the whole thing over. As in, restart all the frigging way from the door. It really doesn't help that my high jumps never actually seem to work half the time because if I jump too early, I hit the ceiling and fall. If I jump too late, I end up not jumping at all and I hit the dripping thing on the ceiling. And if I do it perfectly, I get nabbed by the fairy throwing dozens of little fireballs at me which seem near impossible to avoid.

Edit: Well, I made it through the library by spamming Candy on the electric tiles. Now I'm farming Energy points off that first knight in the bottom floor. 300 points per 8 second run, not that bad. I'm still wondering where to go next though. I've basically been through every area by now except for the maid rooms. Anyone have any clue where to go next?

I'm not sure what you're having trouble with, because I don't remember any of that aside from that one FIREBALLSPAMFAIRY which I always just Gungnir before nabbing the potion.

Demon Lord isn't necessary for any stages until later in the game (though it's pretty useful for some stages beforehand), so if the library's giving you too much trouble you can always go back after getting flight (which you have to anyway for a certain item in the top right of the room).

The issue is, I have no clue how or where to get flight. It would be lovely to have, because I'm REALLY despising the controls where walking and jumping is concerned.

Demon Lord is actually very handy for several stages. I'm using it in any situation where vertical factors are rather extreme, and it always gets the job done for me.

As for the Library, the issue was....basically after that fireball spamming fairy, and after you finish the first puzzle to the top left. Heading over to the right of that area, is where things start getting really anal, when you have to jump between the electric tiles to shoot a path for that worm to clear the way. And after that, you have to jump on the moving platforms while avoiding the electric tiles that surround them. They don't move fast enough for you to clear....anything, actually. You will get hit by that floating fairy on the vertical platform, and you will get fried by that electric tile that sandwiches the horizontal platform. So I just BSed it and jumped onto the tiles while spamming candy.

Ah, I know where you're talking about.  I'm not sure if there's anything you can even do over in that area until you have flight.

To get flight, you have to get the key for the second floor stairs.  To get to that, you have to do the following:

Maid Room 6 - Key to Dining Room is at the top-center of the map
Dining Room - Key to Kitchen is in the bottom right.
Disposal Room (door in the Kitchen) - 2nd floor key after a somewhat annoying puzzle

Then after that you go to the Evil Room.  The spellbook you learn flight from is in the middle of the room.

Ah......I figured I'd miss something by skipping the maid rooms. I stopped at 5 and 6 because they were simply impossible to do without any healing items. Now that I'm fully stocked and have a few accessories to play with, I guess I can give it a shot.

.....By the way, I'm not seeing any accessories in the store that raise your HP value. I'm guessing those come along naturally ingame?

5's tricky, I'm not sure if I ever did that one.  6 is annoying, but I found it manageable because it was around the time I actually bothered starting to use Spear the Gungnir. :V

There's a fairy in the floor 2 foyer that will give you 1 Max HP (or 2 Max MP, or miscellaneous other things) more for every two stones you bring her.  Stones are randomly dropped by enemies on death.

I HATE having the Do Over command right below the Items command.

So I got a new skill from Koakuma for 4000 Energy points.....but I'm not entirely sure what it does. It doesn't seem to deal any damage, and it doesn't seem to act as a shield either. Any idea what it does?
