Recommended Replay thread or discussing awesome replays?
« on: November 11, 2010, 05:55:39 PM »
I just watched Keroko's MoF Reimu A Normal world record and got BLOWN AWAY!  I thought it was tool-assisted because of the awesome stunts he did, it's very entertaining for a MoF run. Contains a very cool Misayama Hunting Shrine Ritual capture, and a really cool trick in the beginning of stage 5. Yeah if you're bored you should totally make popcorn and go watch it!!!

Why isn't that one on royal flare? I was waiting for someone to break 6 billion in IN. Thanks for sharing!!

Simple basic answer, not so simple reasoning. Either one of these two: the replay was on Royalflare, and was taken down by the :uploader: for whatever reason, or it was submitted elsewhere and retrieved and put up onto the Wiki's High Score page. For this given replay, it's more likely that it's the latter, since the exact same replay can be find in his / her (most likely his, given his preference of various non-Touhou Games) Replay Uploader.

AM's No-Vertical clear of MoF Extra is fantastic.

Didn't he do a no-vertical clear of UFO Extra too? I vaguely recall hearing something like that.

I just watched PondeSuika's SA replay, and I noticed something about his play that Moozooh didn't touch on, and maybe someone else here could help me with. He timed out several attacks early on (as in, the clock actually hit 0 instead of killing them just before 0) and he didn't get the life pieces from them (this only applies to the patterns he didn't suicide on, of course). Now I need to double check exactly how many attacks this happened on, and I don't know if it would have given him an extra life by SS given what else happened to him (since he finished with 2.2 lives). However, I want to say that if he avoided those weird deaths late in the run, he might have gotten that extra life anyway. I want to know if anyone else knows something I don't, or if this might actually be something to note.

I think it can be to delay extra lives to get more power at death.

Hello and thanks! That was awesome, I especially enjoyed undefined darkness spell card, you gotta have the balls to stay chill doing it like that. The stage seemed surprisingly easy no vert.

Looking at the replay, I believe I see where this could apply: Stage 4's second midboss-Orin appearance. Skipping three life pieces left him with only 1 extra life (rather than 2) before the planned suicide there, giving him 4..00 Power upon death instead of 3.20. I'll need to take another look later to double-check this, but I want to say PondeSuika never dropped below 1.00 Power for the rest of the stage (even after he used two bombs on Satori), so I'm wondering if it's possible to stick to the proper scoring path with 3.20 Power after Orin. There might be the issue of not having enough Power to kill things fast enough, however.

Yes, I'm familiar with that. But doesn't the number of lives you have left also affect how much Power you recover? Example, I can start up a Story Mode run and die on the first attack (when I have no Power at all), but still get 3.20 Power because I had less than three extra lives left (note "extra").

PondeSuika doesn't start skipping life pieces until Stage 3 IIRC, and the only suicide needed on Stage 4 is midboss-Orin. Also, he doesn't ever have more than three extra lives across the whole run, so I believe all of his suicides would give him at least 3.20 Power.

Conceded; you get 3.20 back from dying with 3 lives and less.

...
Now that I've given it a bit more though, I'm curious:
Skipping three life pieces left him with only 1 extra life (rather than 2) before the planned suicide there [on Stage 4 Mid-Boss Orin] ...
Three? I only counted one, and that was on Yuugi's last Non-Spell. Mind pointing them out?
PondeSuika doesn't start skipping life pieces until Stage 3 IIRC
I don't see any more life pieces being (intentionally) skipped; I saw them as actual mistakes made in the run itself. Only two life pieces were skipped this way, and they were from "Catwalk" and Okuu's second Non-Spell.

tl;dr SA scoring is complicated and messy.

I saw something I missed before. Regarding midboss-Yuugi's first nonspell, turns out he tried to end it himself (from the looks of it, anyway) but fell just short, so it transitioned naturally into the second nonspell. Besides that missed life piece (a legit mistake rather than intentional, as I previously thought), he could have used the extra time on the second nonspell for grazing if he did end the first properly. He also times out boss-Yuugi's second nonspell, not just the third. And yes, the ones missed on the Catwalk and Utsuho's second nonspell were mistakes too.

SA scoring is messy because of all these little details (keeping track of Power mid-game is the biggest culprit). I'm still deep in the learning process, and practicing stuff is gonna be rough, for sure. I just gotta keep at it,, because it's gonna take a long time.

Mid-Boss Yuugi's first Non-Spell doesn't yield a life piece when you take it out; only a few items (which is why he tried to aim to end it just before the timer ends). For scoreruns, it's automatically assumed that you would time out the second [Boss] Non-Spell, so I didn't count it toward the life piece count (that is, it's not actually "missed" but more along the lines of being "exchanged" for more Graze).

Wait, my bad. Yeah, no life piece on the first nonspell. And I think I see what you mean for the second boss nonspell, since attacking Yuugi also means destroying the yin-yang orbs and thus removing their lasers. A part of me wants to see if there's some way to bring Yuugi's health down without losing much graze this way, but it's probably not gonna happen.
