This is the chance for us little people to live the exotic, high-flying lifestyle of the novelist for thirty days. This is your opportunity to write the next great novel in one month. And it costs nothing. What does it take? First, it takes balls. Second, it takes commitment. Third, it doesn't take good spelling or a good idea. It takes balls because you're going to write a shitload in one month and you have to be able to keep plowing even when you know what you just put to paper was pure horseshit. It takes commitment because you'll need to write 1700 words a day to reach the 50,000 word goal. You pretty much gotta write every day or work doubly hard for every day you take off. I spend about 90-120 minutes a day in November on NaNoWriMo. It doesn't take spelling skills or a complete story. You ain't worried about grammar or editing in November. You can deal with that later. Hell, you'll have 50,000 words to work with. Why wouldn't you do NaNoWriMo? Because you're a pussy and you're not cool. The only valid reason is if you are incarcerated and only have computer access for thirty minutes a day. And even then only if you were incarcerated for a novel-writing-related crime. If you don't think you have a story to tell, you'll discover one somewhere in the 50,000 words you put down. If you don't consider yourself a novelist, you will by the end of the month. Hell, no author was a novelist until he wrote his first one. Once you have, you can tell the world to go fuck itself, and get ten-percent novelist discounts at your favorite fast food restaurants. Even if you don't finish your novel or reach the 50,000 word goal, whatever you do write is more of a novel than you have right now. What the fuck do you have to do that's more important than this?
