They'll still be around?
I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but I really can't see the fanbase being any less active than they are now just because Touhou has an anime to go along with it.

What'll happen? Absolutely nothing. They'll still live.

They will all be sucked into a magical vortex, catapulted into another dimension, and our memories will be wiped clean of them ever existing.

I mean, nothing will happen.

Well, I don't really want to be a doomsayer, but most people who analyzed Touhou (see the MAG-NET interview) kinda said that the Touhou community and their creative work kinda exist because of the lack of Anime, the inconsistency of the story, to "fill up the holes". So I'm kind of worried, a little bit.

the anime isn't official, so it itself is just one of the things filling up the holes.

Even if there was an official anime I still don't think there would be less fan content. If it was official it would probably have the same light-hearted approach the games have so there would still be plenty of holes to fill in. Maybe even more.

There will be fanvids of the anime.

There will be fanvids of the anime.

Among other things.

I don't really get this question at all. Doujin works encourage derivative material. Why would yet another Touhou anime, even an official one, make a difference?

Damn it people this is not an official anime it's a friggin blip of a series celebrating Anime Tenchou. ZUN treats it like every other video project and I have no idea where people got the idea of IT'S AN OFFICIAL ANIMEEEEE

One, it won't happen. Ever.
Two, even if it did happen, it would affect nothing. ZUN would keep making games, the anime would end. More crazy batshits would enter the fandom thinking it's an anime like they already have through PVs and Maikaze. Boo hoo.
Three, it doesn't friggin matter anyways.

Yeah hi people who were on the news analyzed Touhou and gave their opinion THAT OBVIOUSLY MEANS THEY KNOW EVERYTHING AND NOBODY HAS EVER ANALYZED TOUHOU BEFORE RITE. It depends what kind of anime would be made, and there's honestly nothing in the stories that need "filling up".

It's not quite "filling up", it's more like...people putting their own explanations and interpretations into it. I wouldn't say that the stories are inconsistent, but they do leave a LOT open for interpretation. ZUN gives us the bare bones, and we add flesh to them in different ways. I don't see an anime, official or otherwise, affecting the viewpoint of the fanbase, especially considering how long the fans have being doing what they do. It'd just be more fodder for us to chew on.

That about, It's true what you said, but the question must be: "Are the touhou fans are ready for anime, after the sucess of the Games, Manga, Doujin Music, etc?"

Really, I'm trying to understand the question and wish the OP would clarify. Why should anything "happen" to fanvids, in the event that a Touhou anime is made? Even if an official one gets made - and the one coming up isn't, as ZUN's said - what difference should it make?

Nah, I don't like to give clear answers.
And as for my thoughts, I think I'll contribute a quote from a friend.

"going anime is going beyond the bounds of doujin circles, which have their own charm.
Indie stuff = "hey i can make better stuff than this" = more doujin circles popping up.
If some hugeass company decides to make high quality 3d Touhou RPGs then nobody would play the small doujin circle games."

Do with that what you will

I don't see the connection. There's an official manga, too, but doujin manga were made concurrently. And games, being something you buy, aren't really comparable to fanvids. People make fanvids, for the most part, to show them to others. I'm pretty sure people would keep making Touhou vids.

Maybe the op something will happen based on laws regarding IPs and whatever, failing to realize that there is virtually no such thing for Japanese doujin works (or so from what I understand myself)?

Anyway I think it would only encourage slightly more fanvids on the fanvid, just like every other fanwork slightly encourages more, so..nothing I guess.

You've got to be joking.

I could replace "Touhou" with anything that didn't originally have an anime and the same thing would still apply

Lots of existing anime even do have fanvideos, so I honestly fail to see how it would be any different from Touhou just because it's an indie game. I'm trying to think of examples of video games in general that get fanvideos and "official" anim-- oh wait every eroge adaptation ever

I won't say absolutely nothing would change.  If Touhou got an official anime the voices used for the characters would become the new standard.

Beyond that?  I doubt ZUN will suddenly go on a canon explanation spree, so not much.  Of course he could (but won't) do the same with a book, so that's not really anime specific.

One thing will happen for sure if Touhou becomes an anime; fans will bitch about it.

You can count on that fo'show.

Seriously, this is like saying people will stop writing bad fan fiction just because there's an anime out or something.

If Key Visual's trio of works are of any indication, and if the anime turns out to be good, probably more people will know about the anime than the games (since the anime would be more accessible to people who can't ha *cough* don't want to play danmaku games), and you'd see more English derivative work for the anime than for the games. Probably wouldn't affect Japanese fan vids as much, though.

Who knows what the OP's talking about. He's decided to be El Mysterioso about what he means, and I'm starting to wonder if this thread even has a purpose beyond "Hey guys, here's a half-formed brain fart I had, discuss."

I hadn't seen that before. One of the better anime openings for Touhou I've seen, in my opinion. The appearance of Reimu and Marisa is full of character, although its kinda hard NOT to blatantly demonstrate Marisa's character. I was expecting Alice to look a little bit more emo, but her piece of that clip was a pleasant surprise. The battle looked impressive, but I particularly liked Yukari and the bit at the end.

Hmm it would be interesting if a widely distributed touhou anime made a difference because of the voices. Although they'd probably all be high-pitched stereotypical anime voices I'm sure that for some of the characters at least, the voice could definitely lend something to the characterization. I picture Komachi with a deep voice, mostly because she's drawn kinda robust in fanart. I picture Yuyuko and Patchy with a weak voice. Marisa'd be one of those in-your-face voices, etc. However if the voices really didn't fit, do you think they'd stick?
