>"If you could introduce me, I would be grateful."

>"I'm afraid she already left some time ago," Sakuya says, frowning. "I don't know where she was heading."

>Make to leave.

>You tell Sakuya you're leaving and turn to depart, walking back towards the gate.
>"You're more than welcome to stay for a time," she calls out. "I can get you something to eat, if you'd like."

>She bows slightly. "It's no problem."
>You wave to her, briefly wondering whether she may be nicer than the real thing. It's nice to know that not every creation of this dream is trying to attack you or someone you know.

>Out the gates.

>You turn and open the gates, then step through them. Somehow, although were walking in a straight line, you find yourself re-entering the mansion grounds. Sakuya is nowhere to be seen.

There was something here once. Wonder what...

>Has anything else changed about the grounds? The position of the sun, perhaps?

>Looking around the ground, you don't see any obvious changes. It's possible the exact arrangement of greenery may be different, but you didn't pay enough attention the first time to be sure. It was evening then, and it is still evening. The moon seems unchanged. You don't know if Maribel's influence may be doing something to keep it that way.
>You think you notice the shadows near some of the trees move.

>No. As you look closer, It doesn't seem to be a humanoid form moving, but rather a shadow itself.

>Does it seem to be a shadow fitting the object that cast it? Or something independent?

>At first you weren't certain, but now that it's clearly moving away from the more natural shadows, its independence is more obvious.
>It is wispy and insubstantial, although you see fragments of a form, too vague and undefined to identify. It is small and moving low to the ground, almost as it it were crawling.

>Approach it. Be ready to give it a proper blasting if needs be.

>You approach it, while it continues to move slowly towards you. It doesn't seem hostile, although it's difficult to get any read of intent from it. The form is not clearly recognizable, and it doesn't seem to be doing anything other than moving.
>As you get closer, you start to feel a strange sensation from it, almost like an emotion. Recognition, confusion, uncertainty. For a moment, you're not sure which of these feelings are your own. Parts of the shadow's form flicker and waver before you.

>Kneel down by it. Do be ready to dive aside if it goes for the face or other fleshy bit we enjoy, which is all of them.
>"Hello?"

>You kneel down next to it, making sure to be ready for sudden evasive action. You've had far too many shadows do unpleasant things to you these last couple days.
>You get a weak sense of response from it. You don't feel it understands what you're saying, so much as the tone behind it. You get another sense of recognition and curiosity, amid a jumble of vague, sometimes alien impressions. You... think it wants to know what it is. There is something familiar about you. Perhaps you can help it?

>Try to touch it.

>You reach out a hand towards the shadow and try to touch it. You hand passes into its form; it feels like cool, almost viscous air. The strength of the sensations you feel from it intensifies sharply, and you feel yourself flooded by half-remembered fragments and jumbled impressions, almost too simple to be called thoughts. It is hard to process them all. You feel it looking into you as well, reaching into your mind; memories of minutes, hours, and days ago. People you've known. Places you've been. Things you've imagined that were never real in any world. You begin to lose touch with your own sense of place, as the impressions of so many others play through your consciousness.

>You pull your hand away and frown, trying to clear your head and remind yourself of where you are. And who you are, for that matter.
>The shadow seems to be undulating gently. It is unsure, but withdrawn. You... think it's trying to understand what it just saw.

>"Do you have a name? And, do you know if there are any others like you? Either way, I suppose you can come with me."

>it is confused for a moment by this concept of 'name', but then seems to understand. It thinks it had a name once. It doesn't remember what it was, or why it had it. It has never seen anything like itself. Before you, it does not clearly remember other beings at all. It... thinks it had once seen more; you seem familiar. But doesn't understand what this means. It would like to come along. It thinks you might help it understand.

>It is glad to know someone else. It hopes to see other beings. It hopes to understand why some of the images in your head seem familiar.
>It is difficult to tell what it looks like, exactly. It is perhaps the size of an average dog, and amorphous. Parts of its form shift continuously, like a gentle ripples in a pond; other parts sometimes become more defined, and then less.
