Heian Alien ~ Nue, the chimera
« on: September 12, 2010, 08:29:35 PM »
Well, I was listening to Heian Alien and - as it is my hobby - I was also watching youtube comments. One of them said something like "Nue is a Nue, right? A chimera that can change shape. IT wouldn't be surprising if her theme had parts of other themes..."
That made a "click" in my mind.
Some people say it is a bit like Hartmann... Mostly, the people say it's like U.N.Owen. I thought that it was because U.N.Owen is so well-known and it is very ...special, by the matter of speaking.  I was like "It can't be..." Until I heard it and I notice these things:
00-00:13 = Hartmann ( 00:20 - 00:30
00:13-00:47= U.N. Owen (xylophone) (00:18 - 00:30)+ Hartmann (Background music ? not sure which instrument)
00:47-00:58=U.N. Owen
00:58-1:12 = Necrofantasia (trumpets) (1:13- 1:23 -- it's slowed to me)
1:12-1:43 Reach for the moon, Immortal smoke. (00:50-1:13)
1:43-1:54= Hartmann + U.N Owen.
1:54-2:17= U.N. Owen + Necrofantasia.
2:20-2:28= Reach for the moon, immortal smoke.
2:28-3:02= Reach for the moon, immortal smoke + Necrofantasia.
(After that I thought: It's going to be the same things over and over again...)
I couldn't find Native Faith, but I think that it's in the background sometimes. It's also kind of hard to listen necrofantasia, because it's not the beginning nor the middle part.
Well, that's what I hear. Do you agree? Do you hear something else?

I've already said it in the IM box, but I could hear all of 'em but Necrofantasia (because I've never heard Necrofantasia), so I'm going to guess you're right on that'un, too.

The Hartmann's Youkai Girl in the background is a /bit/ hard to notice, you kinda hafta ignore the U.N. Owen in the front, but it's there.

Stop stealing my phrases from my mind >.<
Yeah, it IS hard to notice. If it wasn't because I thought "It can't be ONLY U.N.Owen, there is something else in there...and why is it so long?" I wouldn't have realized.  The right questions for the rigth answer ~

I personally never heard U.N. Owen in there. The format seemed very much like Hartmann to me. But I guess it's just me.

But hey, maybe the realization that the similarities were intentional might get people to stop going on with stupid claims about how Nue's a Flandre ripoff.

Yeah -.-...
I think it was intentional, considering her specie....
If you hear carefully the xylophone, I think U.N.Owen is there...
And about Hartmann, don't worry, it's not just you xD

Also sometimes, people hear what they want to hear. Might as well just start analysing all touhou theme songs and say that they all copy cat each other.

I didn't mean copycat in that way, it was not to say that Nue is a ripoff of all those characters. (btw, have you tried to hear  it?)
People never said that other songs were like U.N.Owen, or at least they didn't so often. People never said that other songs were like Hartmann's youkai girl, they only did with this one. If you want to believe that all those people heard what they wanted and they all heard the same thing, do it. There isn't lotsa posibilities, though.

When BGM of UFO stage was heard for the first time, majority connected it to U.N Owen instantly.

Also ZUN often likes to take passages from other themes and compose them into new themes for a the same or different character / stage.  It is nothing new.

The only one I hear is UN Owen (and more throughout the whole song, etc). It's been UN Owen ever since the first listen.

Considering how many times it's brought up, I would believe it if someone said most of those references are fabricated just by someone wanting to believe it's connected; power of suggestion and all that. People want to believe something like this simply because of her ability, and like you said, you only started connecting segments after you started thinking that way. Then again, it's not like you would notice these things without trying anyways, so whatever.

This is a classic example of confirmation bias, but doesn't mean it isn't fun to speculate on. Myself, I only hear UNOWH in Nue's theme. But then again, Year-Round Observed Curiosity's opening sounds to me like the Inspector Gadget closing theme, at a slower tempo.

I gotta say, it's impressive how you separate the different parts of the song - down to the second even - into different themes you're reminded of. That's some pretty meticulous work.

Am I crazy for not hearing the UN Owen in this?  I thought from day 1 it sounded more like Hartmann's Youkai Girl than anything else.  Even follows the same progression in terms of NOISENOISENOISE - Peaceful, quiet bit - NOISENOISENO(ry.

My theory is that it's genetic. Just as some people can roll their tongue, and some people love cilantro while others hate it, there is a propensity encoded in your DNA that makes you hear UNOWH in Heian Alien.

Thanks. At least someone appreciates this xD
I had like 10 minutes to put the seconds of the other EX-boss' songs, luckily I remembered at least a bit of the reasons why I chose them before.

The first thing that came to mind when I heard this song was Black Eyes from StB.  I still don't hear U.N. Owen to this date.

Edit: Just listened to it again and still can't unhear Black Eyes.  :/

There's a difference between analyzing a piece of music and actively trying to link shit to other shit through any tiny crack just because you can.

Brahms stole music from Beethoven because they both play piano!!!!!!!!

You fail. My comparison is nothing like that. Nowhere close to that. Nothing is being stolen because it's being used for a character in the same series. I am just saying that a piece of theme reminded me of Voile's .Why am I being yelled at because of opinion?

Which is what she was doing, yes. And even before it was pointed out to me, I could hear bits of Immortal Smoke. Thing is, as someone up above said, this is a fun thing to speculate about. If you have a personal problem with the post/idea/thread, then you can always not read it.

I'd like to know why Drake does that too. Well, some people can't just shut their mouths and they have to yell at others because they think differently. Just ignore him. You can post your opinion freely here.

First of all, sorry for that last post. That was rude and I didn't actually get any point across.

But this is my opinion. I stand by that most of this thread, although thought-provoking (well, the first few posts were, at least, kudos to Mary for at least putting the effort into it), is just people finding "references" of songs solely because they're consciously looking for a link. People can and will distort realities to conform to their expectations. While I believe that U.N. Owen is referenced constantly throughout Heian Alien, I don't really have any solid musical connections aside from "they sound and feel extraordinarily similar and probably follow similar patterns". However, many other people can back me up as they've heard it even without it being suggested. Same with Hartmann; even though I personally don't hear much Hartmann in Heian, the number of people recognizing it is something I can't wave off. Immortal Smoke... not as believable, given the circumstances.

After listening to Heian and Voile again, I do hear exactly where you're talking about. 1:21. The problem with what you said originally is that you had no timestamp whatsoever, and really you can't expect people to automatically resonate with your statement because really the songs sound nothing alike at all, as a whole. Of course it's going to be marked as weird. Besides, to say you can't criticize an opinion for being an opinion is ridiculous, sorry. You can have an opinion, but it's another thing to share that opinion. I'm totally free to comment on it as well, although how I did it was dumb and heated.

If you have a personal problem with the post/idea/thread, then you can always not read it.
I do hope you reported my post instead of not following your own advice and ignoring it. I'm free to argue a point I find ridiculous; but if I get to the point where I can't argue rationally because of rage then I would definitely rather be reported and go back to posting calmly than stay all riled up.

I'd like to know why Drake does that too. Well, some people can't just shut their mouths and they have to yell at others because they think differently.
Key word here is "yell". I would rather put forth my own opinion or counter an argument than just leave something I find wrong; it doesn't sit well with me at all and I feel a strong sense of involvement. Sorry if you can't see eye-to-eye with that, believe it or not I'd rather not be raging at TARC every second of the day.

tl;dr That was dumb of me to post and I'm sorry but I still think some of this is incredibly far-fetched, even if the original topic is about finding this kind of stuff.
