>You take the letter with you, and exit the mansion. Meiling nods to you as you pass by her again. A few minutes later, you arrive at the fissure.
>"Well, let's hope this works," Mokou says.
>Ran nods. "For more than one definition of 'work'."
>Mugetsu eyes the slivers with some trepidation.

>"Alright Mugetsu, I'm going to stay with you. Just push the letter in, and put your hand into it, so Gengetsu can feel with. I'll be right beside you if things go wrong. I'll yank you away, don't worry. And I'll keep an eye on things too. If it doesn't hurt, leave your hand in there, so she can have more to go with. Are you ready?"

>You attempt to comfort Mugetsu while explaining what you want her to do. She is quite visibly nervous, but steels herself with a determined expression. "I'm ready," she says.

>You hand Mugetsu back the note you wanted her to deliver, and place your hand reassuringly on her shoulder. She barely seem to notice your presence as she scans around for slivers near her. One winks into existence to her left and she reaches out tentatively towards it. It vanishes before she can touch it. She takes a few steps to the north, and a couple moments later narrowly misses a second. She shakes her head and takes in a deep breath. The next time one appears near her, she thrusts her arm towards it without stopping to think. You hear her let out a small gasp as her hand passes into it. Looking closely at her arm, you think she's... trembling.
>"It- it feels strange," she says, breathing a little unsteadily. The sliver doesn't seem to be doing anything untoward.

>You smile to yourself, despite the circumstances. This adventure seems to be bringing out your maternal instinct. And just think, you'd never have trouble falling asleep again!
>The sliver starts to move slowly closed. Mugetsu frowns nervously as she looks it, but there otherwise seems to be no change in her condition.

>You feel Mugetsu shiver beneath you. "I know, I know. It just feels weird. It's-" She takes a great gasp of air and her eyes widen.
>You have a little chuckle to yourself, imaging Mokou taking up fatherhood. You can just picture the look on her face if you told her that.

>Mugetsu's breathing grows shallower. "There's... there's.... I...." Her eyes stare straight into the void, and fear and confusion etch her face. It's almost like she's seeing something you can't. And it's traumatizing her.

>You consider giving Mugetsu another moment, but then decide that whatever she's sensing needs to stop now. You pull hard on her hand and yank it out of the gap; it seals itself behind her. Mugetsu continues to stare vacantly forward, her breathing unsteady.

>You look at her hand. It appears to be perfectly normal and unharmed.
>Mugetsu continues to breath raggedly. She does not acknowledge you.

>"I..." she breathes, gasping between every other word. "She... I don't... I didn't..." Mugetsu lets out a pained cry, and you feel sleep lash out at you.
>"Wha... the hell..." you hear Mokou say distantly, as she staggers on her feet. You think you see Ran stumble. It's hard to see things when your eyes are almost shut...

>"Da... mmit," Mokou says, raising a hand and stumbling towards you. You see a flame ignite unsteadily in it. "Cut it... out. I... mean it."
>"Don't," Ran says, reaching an arm towards her. "I... don't think... she means harm."

>As your eyes drift closed, you try to tell Mokou to let things be. You don't get much chance to process her reaction.
>You give up the last shred of resistance and try to lower yourself gently onto the ground before you fall. A deep restless sleep swallows you. It feels thick and smothering upon you, like tar. You hear crying, sense things moving beyond the clinging darkness; fragments of images more felt than seen. You can't make sense of them.
>Gradually, you become aware of Mugetsu's face hovering above yours. She's wearing a concerned frown, and you can see tears on her cheeks.
>"...I'm sorry," she says. "I know I promised I wouldn't do that that...."
