Going to try harvest moon for the first time

I have yet to play this series at all, but I think that it'll be good fo my DS.
Is there a ds version that most people agree is superior or whatever? I probably want a harder one if it varies.

Also any other DS games people suggest? I'm looking for a fairly slow or turn-based semi-strategy game I can play while doing something else like cooking. Preferably a game with some kind of currency that you manage for growth in game... Like civ without the war. Oh yeah... My 'r' shoulder button isn't working ATM... No clue why, it's clean, hasn't been dropped or hit, and I never spilled anything on it. But if a game needs it like say... Contra, specify so I can skip it if I can't fix my button.

Yeah I normally just sit in kitchen while stuff is baking/boiling/frying because walking out results in my family asking me for something, which results in me rushing back to something over-done or whatever.

I figured I should ask which one to try too since everyone was like "lol shadow dragon" when I posted about that being my first FE game =p.

Island of Happiness was my favorite Harvest Moon game for the DS, and I highly recommend it to start. Seduce the witch or you're not a true man. 

Grand Bazaar was just released in North America on August 24th, so you could give that a try, though I haven't picked it up yet myself so I can't really recommend it. It is the newest, however, so I can only assume they've improved on the previous games. I mean, look! Jumping!

It's a shame you aren't looking to play on the Wii, Tree of Tranquility was amazing as well. Actually, if you prefer a little action in your farm simulation, you may want to pick up Rune Factory (any of them, for Wii or DS, also translated by Natsume). It's very much like Harvest Moon, but it has a bit of emphasis on going around and hunting monsters in caves and stuff, in addition to the farm life.

Rune Factory (whichever one's the newest out for DS) is very nice, but that's because I've been playing HM for ages and wanted a bit of something different.

Is Isle of Happiness the touch-screen-controlled one? If so, I wasn't too 'big' on the control scheme at first (I'm weird like that...), but it grew on me.

Say, isn't there another RF due out sometime soonish?

Yes, Rune Factory and Isle of Happiness are really good.  You can seduce a witch in the first Rune Factory too.
