>"We'll check the fissure first. I'm in no hurry to go back to that grove."
>To the fissure!

>"Very well," Ran says.
>You fly towards the fissure indicated on the map. This one turns out to be a fair bit easier to spot than the last one, although it's still quite small; roughly a large as a house. The energy in it does seem to be a bit more active than the most of the ones you've seen, outside of the fissure you were attacked in. Ran repeats the trick with the glass butterfly.
>"Well, it's not as good as I hoped," Ran says, "but better than I feared. I think we're making progress, at any rate. Still, with what we have, I may need to spend a little bit of time analyzing it, and we don't have a great opening point. The fissures at the shrine and by our house are too faint to use for more than a reference point. The one where you were attacked is still actively connected to wherever it leads, but twisted. This one is rather weak."

>Groveward. Don't enter.

>Ran nods. "Very well."
>You take off towards the grove where you nearly fell asleep twice and land at what you feel is a safe distance away.

>Mokou sighs and shakes her head. "Better not make me do that a second time," she mutters.
>"Well, what are you hoping to find here, then?" Ran asks.

>To Ran. "I am hoping what you've been tracking and what are going on here are related things, and you can get enough of a reading to make a useful observation."

>"Even if the being who created the fissures is in here," Ran says, "I don't think that would help with what I was doing. Well, outside from the obvious method of simply forcing them to take us where we want to go."

>"It's up to you," Ran says. "I'm not adverse to looking. But if you expect that this will provide information I can use to stabilize our transit, I'm skeptical, that's all."

>Check the map.

>You've already identified the largest and most recent fissures. Is there something specific you wish to examine it for?

>The most recent one of comparable size you can find is 2 years old, towards the other end of the bamboo forest. The largest one you have yet to examine, aside from the one under the lake, is a little ways north of Yukari's house. However, it doesn't appear to be marked as much larger than the one you're already at, and is a fair bit older.

>"It really would be nice if that one was more accessible," she says, looking at the map, "but after that, I think this one might be best." She points to the fissure on the other end of the bamboo forest.

>"Well, we can look," Ran says. "And fair warning. Make sure to do ask she asks, Chen."
>"Got it," Chen replies.

>You move back into the forest. No drowsiness hits you immediately, nor does it seem to even after you've spent a minute or two moving deeper into the trees. You see no sign of anyone's presence, either.
>Ran tilts her head to the side. "I... think I sensed something, just then."

>You continue to walk through the forest. Ran's head darts to one side or the other occasionally, like she'd heard or seen something, but she makes no further comment.

>"Something bothering you, Ran?"

>You think you can get fairly close, but the forest is unfamiliar and the place you woke up indistinct. You probably couldn't be entirely certain.
>Ran frowns. "Every now and then I can sense just a hint of that presence I did earlier. I don't really know what it is. I think it may be following us, though."

>Ran nods, and look around the terrain.
>You find much the same as you did when you tried this earlier. You get a vague impression of a wispy presence that's been back and forth through here recently. You're certain it is not like the youkai you originally encountered here, although it's quite reminiscent of it.

>"That would seem to agree with my own senses," Ran says.
>You can't really detect its presence actively, so you wouldn't be able to tell exactly where it is, or if it has shifted in or out. You can meanly tell that it has spent time wandering around here lately. You wait a little, but don't notice any other activity.

>"I can barely detect it at all, most of the time," she says. "But what I do sense is... almost ethereal, like a fragment of a dream. I don't know if it's entirely here, to be honest. Or perhaps it's just doing that to hide itself?"
