First Touhou Characters

Sakuya. While browsing through Akibakko, I came across the picture of a girl with white hair playing with a soccer ball. I liked the style, so I followed its tags and discovered "Touhou".

And once I knew what that was, I found another picture of a green-haired girl with the coolest hat ever and the most awesome uniform. And, well, you know the rest.

Wierd story, my friend was bugging me to try and learn how to draw anime style and suggested I start by sight drawing anime characters and directed me to a database (I can't remember the name) where anime characters are catagorized by physical traits- I just mashed the random button and saved images that caught my eye- one of which being Marisa's IaMP graphic. About a year later, my Youtube subscription update had a video from AzureBlade49 of him playing MegaMari, and I've no idea how but I recognized Marisa. I downloaded the game, started playing, and going wtf is this shit- I was talking to a friend at the time and I was like "this is ridiculous, there's bunnies with nukes, kung-fu girl scouts (china XD), and time-stopping knife-throwing maids!" After getting thoroughly owned and giving up I looked up a strategy guide for the best weapon choices and found the Touhou Wiki, where I fell in love I realized what Touhou really was :3

Marisa stole the precious thing is one of the most common Touhou-related things that have a good amount of saturation outside of the people who consider themselves 'Real Touhou Fans', same goes for pretty much any other IOSYS video and stuff like 'McRoll'.

That said, some people get up in arms when they feel the thing that they love is being sieged by 'fandumb' as it's so lovingly referred to. Backlash against tsundere-Alice is due to defensive reactions of 'That's not what Alice is really like omg just look at what she's like in (insert canon material here)!!". Accusations of fanon and fandumb, etc etc. Not that there isn't good reason to get annoyed at fans sometimes, as fans can indeed be dumb, but yeah.

I think it was Mokou due to some signature image someone had somewhere saying some nonsense about something called Touhou. The second was Reisen because of Overdrive which I only watched due to a parody of Overdrive which confused me. I watched the original to try and understand it better it didn't help. Then the EoSD cast because I was dared to play it by someone on a forum I used to go to.

I'm just not a fan of that particular portrayal of her character. I personally don't see how that interpretation came up, but I don't rage at it.

I'm also not a fan of non-platonic Touhou relationships, so I just wish there was less shipping.

I like MStPT, though. It's a catchy arrange of an already great song, and the animation is entertaining.

I feel pretty much the same way. If Touhou didn't hinge so much on the fanbase, it would probably irritate me more, considering Marisa and Alice are both my favorite characters and I particularly like the rivalry between the two. Until it gets to the point where yandere Alice is the only accepted interpretation, I can live with the fact that there are different interpretations. As a matter of fact, considering my interpretations are based under the circumstances in which I ran into the characters, I'm sure that mine aren't exactly that close to "canon" either.

"Marisa Stole the Precious Thing" is cute and catchy though. I don't think you have to approve of Marisa-x-Alice to enjoy it, and this is coming from someone who HAS found shipping to be a major turn-off for songs, art (obviously), and fangames in the past.

The first Toehoes I met were the original heroines and the SDM crew. That was when I was fairly new to the internet and was fishing around for freeware games I could run on my parents' ailing PC. I got the EoSD demo off Gamehippo and the rest is history.

I'd assume it came from Imperishable Night.  Alice gets angry at Marisa at least once in pretty much every dialogue, some fans go "She acts like she hates Marisa, but if she did, why would she pick Marisa to help her investigate the incident?", label her a tsundere, and cue shipping.

Now, time for someone to tell me where the hell MarisaxPatchy came from when the only time Patch ever even willingly interacts with Marisa is to send her to the Former Hell so she doesn't have to go herself.

Emotional. But I cried so heavily at the animation that I've forbade myself from seeing it again. I hate sad endings...
