I have this game for the DS. It's addictive, challenging, and educational. How is it educational?
1. Social Studies
This game helps you learn about the past of Asia, Europe, and America. It shows you what buildings they have, what they look like, and how it's used. For each different time period, there is a different way how people (sims) live and use those buildings.
Also, it can help you understand more of your city's geography.
2. Science
This game is also beneficial, because it helps you keep an eye out for pollution and give you a better understanding of Global Warming. There are some facilities that heavily pollute (coal power plants), and can lower land values. Others reduce pollution (tree, park), and could raise land values. Keeping an eye on the pollution level is important, and you want it to be at a mininum.
This game is addictive, beacuse you always want to keep an eye on your city, look how things are going, try to unlock new facilities, and finish building the Symbol of the Age.
It's also challenging, because you have to deal with lots of stuff. Traffic, Pollution, and Flammability are some of the things you have to deal with. There is also natural disasters, which is very frustrating. They destroy buildings, important facilities, and kill people. After the disaster, you should restore the city by demolishing rubble, and memorizing which faciliiy goes where.
There's one more thing that makes the game challenging. Money. Money is crucial in this game. It buys facilities that are essensial to the city. However, it's very easy to lose money. And that's why we have taxes that your citizens must pay. If you make them too high, they will be unhappy. The lower you set the taxes, the less you will recieve. Not only there are taxes you have to deal with, there is also Upkeep. Upkeep is where you pay Police Stations, Fire Stations, Hospitals, Schools, and Roads, so that they can improve. However, you can't make them too low, or your citizens would say this. "How come there isn't any more room for me to go to school?" Making your citizens happy is a vital thing to do. If your citizen speaks in black, that means they're feeling neutral. If it's blue, they're feeling glad about the city. If it's red, they're feeling mad about the city. In some time periods, there is an option to use trade. Which means you can import items to your city, which costs money, or export items from your city, which gives you some money.
