Today is MMMMMMDD, Caterpillar Day. People generally
seem to hate bugs, and I don't blame them - they're
ugly and feel creepy. But caterpillars are cute and fuzzy,
almost like the dachsunds of the insect world. Plus, they
turn into butterflies!

"acronym: a pronounceable name made up of a series of initial letters or parts of words; for example, UNESCO for the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization"
If you say every letter separately it's not an acronym.
EDIT: I do feel that I should clarify that this is just one of my irrationally pedantic pet peeves. =P

If everyone calls something an egg, but a dictionary says it's a rock, the magic of language means the users are right and the dictionary is wrong.
Colloquialisms redefine language.
