Spoiler:
You can also skip Alice entirely.
And a lot of the rest of the game.
Which I did apparently since I'm on my way to the Palanquin.
Speaking of which: UFO abduction is the awesomest powerup in any platformer ever, as far as comedic value goes

Well then. I can't say that I expected that final boss... Pity it wasn't very much of a challenge to defeat, though.

Anyway, does any of the Former Hell levels apart from the next-to-last one or the Youkai Mountain levels apart from the first one have secret exits?

There's one on
Spoiler:
Youkai-5 that leads to a Kourindou
Couldn't find any others on Former Hell.

I'm wondering if I'm missing some secret exits. The ones I've found are

Spoiler:
1-2
1-4
All of Eientei
3-2
3-5
3-6
4-1
4-3
5-6
6-1
6-5
7-2
7-4
7-6

It bothers me that they put in the Hakurei Shrine as well. Well, the three fairies DO live behind it in the manga right?

If there are any more secret exits, I haven't found them; with the 6-5 one gotten my list looks identical to yours.

Also all red stars found on all the levels.
Spoiler:
Palace of the Earth Spirits
was probably the most annoying one to do it in (apart from lol snowball); I wonder if it's even possible to get all ten in one single playthrough of the level?

If I'm interpreting the mushroom arrow sign symbol on the accomplishments list correctly, it would indeed seem like I have found all the exits in the game.

Time to go back to those fairies, I guess.

I lol'd when I saw the UFO the first time, but I still say Yukkurisa is best Marisa.

I think the arrow sign just means all stages, not necessarily all exits

I'm pretty sure it wasn't there before I got the 7-5 secret exit.

The arrow sign means all stages unlocked. I had it before and after getting the

secret exit. While I haven't been keeping track that well, from the map and replaying a few stages I'm 99% certain my list of secret exits is the same as both of yours.

I think I've spent more time with this game than I have with Touhou 12.8.

Is there some sort of trick to 4-4 (the Netherworld)? Nevermind getting all ten coins, I'm having a hard time just getting through the stage under the 150 second time-limit.

Hit all the invincishrooms and run run run.

Ah, I didn't know there were more. I just see the one at the beginning of the stage. They're probably in those yellow boxes that I have ignored in this stage. Thanks.

That stage is frustrating on it's own but if you run through it the right way, you can get a ton of 1UPs.

AFAIK, there are 3. But that's enough.
the 2nd and 3rd are surrounded by breakable ice blocks, so you need to crush them with invincible Marisa or you won't get them.
And if it's possible, pick the big mushroom up before your current form ends. That way you will keep your kill streak and every enemy you kill will be a life!

my biggest challenge in that stage was actually getting my character to jump from those 2 block platforms cause of the ice I'd slip off before I could press jump.

That stage gave me hell. The only good thing was that I was able to get a ton of 1Ups (my lives hit about 70 or so from a mere 24). After about 10 tries I was finally able to complete the stage.

I'll admit, the game is extremely fun, as are the boss battles (my favorite boss so far is Patchouli because of the reference in her stage to Megamari), but it's still slightly difficult at times. I'm at the Palanquin area right now...in the level with those jumping scuba fairies and I cannot avoid them at all...it's like trying to dodge bullets....wait....

You can swim the entire scuba stage in the Palanquin area.  Just don't hold down the dash button and they won't hit you.  Obviously you should use the Suwako hat.

EDIT: I lied, dash button is definitely your friend; Suwarisa swims so fast she'll outrun the fairies.  There's a certain spot where you'll have to get out of the water and jump a bit though, I'm uploading a video atm.

EDIT2: Video is live here.  Seems Youtube's hiding the 1080p option from me though :C

You, sir, are a genius! Thanks! :D

I actually find the Suwako suit pretty cute but I never found a use for it. I tried to use it in the SDM boss area but kept falling into the pits. Anyway, I'll try this out.

You're welcome, and good luck. :V

It's my favorite suit personally, even though it's really awkward to use.  Goes great with the Tenshi suit for getting distance off the keystones.

Tenshi suit was my favourite for its versatility, with Reisen suit my usual backup. I dismissed Suwarisa as being fairly useless outside of water stages but judging from Esoterica's posts that may have been a mistake.

I really would recommend the Reisen or Tenshi suits over it in most cases, but it is pretty fun/useful if you can manage to control it.

My main suit is the Miko (Reimu) suit. I like offensive abilities that are easy to use.

I'm pretty sure that's my least-used suit, special suits like Yukkurisa included.  I always prefer the mobility option in platformers.

I like to keep two Miko Suits on me, normally. However, on gap-heavy levels, I'll keep a spare Reisen.

Still need to get used to it giving out on me after a few seconds, though. That's gotten me killed more'n once...

My lineup is invariably Suwako + Tenshi/Reisen.  Mobility for any situation. :V

Actually, there's 4; you can be big tits marisa for pretty much the entire stage! And yes, if you need some extra lives, this is by far the best stage to use.

Miko Marisa is useful for getting some red coins that would otherwise be annoying, or if the stage is annoying specifically because of the enemies; otherwise, yeah, mobility options are better. I like them all I suppose.

I managed to get all of the red stars in 4-4 easily enough after I found out that big mushrooms could spawn from boxes. Now I can't figure out how to get one last star from 4-9--the one from the really high box above the pit that leads to cave with the yukkuri powerup. Right now I only have access to the Reimu, Reisen, and Suwako powers, but I can't really get high enough with any of them; I have a feeling that maybe I'll need something else from a later world.

Oddly enough, that's one of the only three stars I'd bothered to get on that stage, and I'd gotten there with those same powerups.  I'll run through the stage and see where it is, maybe I can help.

...oh hell, I hate this map.

Ah, think I found it.  Just jump while sliding down the hill.  I'd recommend the Reisen suit so you can get a second chance if you miss.
