Recommend me some PSP games!

First things first.  Recommend me FFT and I cut you.

So I have a PSP now, courtesy of several incredibly awesome friends.  I will also be spending a large amount of time over the next month or two on buses and planes and trains and other assorted forms of transit that involve a lot of time doing nothing much.  As such, I need some recommendations for games to pick up.

I am a massive SRPG fan, though a regular RPG is fine too.

Currently have played:
Both Star Oceans
Riviera
Yggdra Union
Hexyz Force
Both Disgaeas
Jeanne d'Arc (in the middle)
P3P (in the middle)

...I think that's everything.

I could also use a fresher experience, and a good timesink is highly welcome.

As for other games i've played Dissidia Final Fantasy is okay but it can get rather rage inducing.

Fightan gaems are...well, I'm not very good at them, and I don't tend to enjoy them all that much.

I actually nabbed a copy of BlazBlue, played for about 10 minutes, and yawned and gave it back.  So...yeah.

Dissidia is a terrible, terrible game.

I wouldn't even think of suggesting that crappy PSP version of FFT, that thing is a trainwreck that ruins a great game.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth if you can find it, but you probably won't.

Although not an RPG, Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? is a great platformer, but expect to rage a lot.


You already have most of the others I'd recommend. The port of the first Persona game may be worth considering for some, but I thought it was complete crap.

Not an RPG, but both Patapon and Patapon 2 are very much worth your time (though the first one's extremely short).

The first time I got a PSP, I got Gradius Collection and Guitar Hero Unplugged. Both were pretty impressive, so you may consider those. P1 Portable was also supposed to be pretty good too, from what I heard.

It was alright.  I lost interest about halfway through, but that's mostly because I was underleveled severely.

I also guess I should ask about Monster Hunter; I've seen the topics here, but I've never touched the games myself.

A cursory glance shows the games to be very much like a MMORPG.  Is this accurate?  Keep in mind, I don't play MMOs.  I usually get bored by about level 30, maybe in a really really good one 40.  They're not my thing.

I'm asking opinions.  Bloated my budget ain't.  Broke is a lot closer.  Many of the recommended titles I can bum off a couple friends; I just want to know what's worth my time.

If you've never played SO2, the PSP remake is pretty good.  Fun RPG.  Also you can probably get Lumines and Lumines II for cheap.  Those games will entertain you for a pretty disgusting amount of time if you're the right kind of person.  If you wanna get into rhythm games then yeah, the DJ Max series is pretty fun (Pop'n Portable is fun too, but it's probably a lot harder to start out with.  Also you'd have to import it for All The Monies)

I've played both ACX and Armored Core - FF, and I have to say that both were a pretty awesome waste of my homework time. Seriously, I think ACX rivals AC6 as my favorite game ever, and AC-FF has killed plenty of hours trying to build the best robots to fight your way to the top of the league.

Of course, you can always just exploit some of the range weaknesses of the enemies, but it's no fun that way, is it? Try and beat them at their own game.

Either one of the Wipeout games is good for racing, but that's about it. Still fun, though. The difficulty spike between speed levels is higher than you think.
I've also never played fl0w, but I hear it's a head trip. Same with Loco Roco, except it's more dizzying.

Of course, I'm not aware of the prices on these games, so they may vary.

I don't care if you aren't a racing game fan or a car guy.  Get Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast.  Get it if for no other reason than for the music.  It's also one of the prettiest games on the PSP, period.

I heard War of the Lions had some serious lag issues.

Also, hack it and get Touhou. :V

It does have some pretty bad lag during spells for some reason. The game itself was pretty addicting though, so I kept playing it :V
I have the PS1 version lying around somewhere. I wonder if I should play that version next time.

The PSP version of FFT is intentionally programmed to go at half speed during most attacks. It's been proven. Of course Square paid some crappy company to do the port as well.

It's okay. I've played the PS2 version, but it takes a lot of grinding to get your growth books filled. Both versions have bugs involving the bonus dungeon. The PS2 version freezes after certain attacks or defeating enemies at times in the bonus dungeon, low chance on lower floors and 100% chance on higher floors, but bosses don't freeze it. However, even on the early floors of bonus dungeon, I still had it freeze 100% of the time for me. The PSP version is glitched so you can't make the bonus dungeon weapon recipes, so you can never max the growth book in that version. PSP version wins if you care about postgame, but if you don't then PS2 is better.

I heard the PSP version is a bit buggy; you can't record the bonus weapons or whatever in your logbook. I know someone who has the PS2 version of the first game, and he loves it. Shame the second one didn't make it to the US.


I looked at the GameFAQs PSP page and a thought occured to me: why not try the Metal Gear Acid games? Oh, and there's Peace Walker too, it's like a mini Snake Eater with some multiplayer modes (they're ad-hoc, unfortunately).

Monster Hunter Unite. Though I don't know how much fun it'd be with just you playing it without friends, and it might make you rage a little bit. :v

Super Robot Wars A Portable.

Or Super Robot Wars MX Portable for something dead easy. I also recommend Macross Ultimate Frontier and the Gundam VS games if you can get around the moon runes.

Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters is a pretty damn good game. Also look for BlazBlue Portable...it's basically the console version but for the PSP...not AS good as the console version but it's still BlazBlue X3

Also why not Dissidia(sp?)? It's the fighting game with FF characters but I heard it's pretty damn awesome. Plus you can play as Jecht...and who doesn't want to play as him? 8D

Yeah, I don't think I'll be going out of my way to get Dissidia.  Maybe I'll borrow it for a little while.
