Fullscreen freezes games (and computer)
« on: July 30, 2010, 08:27:10 PM »
whenever i try to launch one of the games in full screen mode, the screen goes black like its about to start.. then just stays there. it locks up my whole PC and forces me to restart it manually. i'm running win 7 64x. ive tested EoSD PCB and IN, as well as IMP... same thing happens for all of them.

I updated my graphics drivers as well as directX. i've also played with the fixed-aspect ratio scaling on my graphics control panel. the system is set to japanese locale, and i have the japanese language pack installed. i've also tried turning off areo.

some pc specs:
Win 7 ultimate 64x
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
8gb ram
1680x1050 native resolution monitor

also, as i was playing around with the vsync patch (which i have no idea how to get working right on any of them) i somehow managed to get EoSD to work, but only when not using the vsync exe  :/ but at least it plays now..

i'm completely stuck as to why they dont work...suggestions anyone? i'm assuming its something to do with my graphics card but i don't know what else to try.

ps. they work just fine windowed...

Weird, have you tried changing the fullscreen resolution?  Does this happen with any of the DirectX 9 games (MoF and up)?  How about SWR/HSTS?

i figured out that the problem was OS based. I just finished reinstalling windows and everything works fine.  :D

so what i thought was OS based was not actually true, though my pc did bluescreen the other day heh. turns out (now this is embarrassing) never tried turning off my antivirus and firewall softwares.. fail.  the games work fine on my laptop running those programs though, so it never crossed my mind to try it. i cant believe i forgot troubleshooting rule number 1.

note: avast + comodo may give certain computer setups problems...

mystery officially solved.
