>If she was helping out with the family business back home, it would probably explain why she's assisting here. Well...hopefully the maternity leave bit is good news for her.
>Check the time. Is it close to when school would be starting?
>Scrutinize the lesson plan notes. Try to decipher them.
>If possible, hunt up the recent lesson plans, too. Sounds like we'll have to bluff our way through this.

>If she was helping out with the family business back home, it would probably explain why she's assisting here. Well...hopefully the maternity leave bit is good news for her.

>Yes, hopefully.

>Check the time. Is it close to when school would be starting?

>You look out the window and try to judge the time from the sun. Hmmm.... probably at least an hour or so, yet. Assuming this is a school day. And assuming that the schedule hasn't changed along with everything else.

>Scrutinize the lesson plan notes. Try to decipher them.
>If possible, hunt up the recent lesson plans, too. Sounds like we'll have to bluff our way through this.

>The notes don't seem to be lesson plans, as such, but quick jot notes of things to remember to include in a lesson plan. Maybe you'd even just scribbled them down while heading to bed one night?
>You presume that the lesson plans are probably among the documents in your study, where you'd normally keep such things. You go and have a little around. It doesn't take long to locate them.

>Have a look at them. Maybe there will be hints to how things changed, too?

>You read through your lesson plans and curriculum notes. It's fairly standard stuff, but thankfully well organized.
>The class lists, asides from being noticeably... shorter... than the one's you remember, consist of mostly the same names you remember, with the odd exception. You see to have two other assistant teachers on your staff: the aforementioned Yumiko and another teacher who worked with you before. You're understandably not currently teaching the same topics you were yesterday, but all of it is fairly basic material (to you, at least), and you should have no trouble teaching it without more than a quick scan to see what you have and haven't already covered this year, thus far.
>There are no obvious indications of changed history other than this, but it's fairly procedural stuff

>Familiarize self with where we left off.

>You sit down with your notes, and read over them, while continuing to munch on bread and fruit. After a little while, you feel comfortably up to speed enough that you could probably wing it. Fortunately, your notes contain some already prepared exercises, as well.

>There's any number of mundane household objects that might be useful for SOMETHING, if you put your mind to it. Aside from that, there's a plethora of documents of various kinds, if you had some idea what you were looking for. You don't notice anything else that jumps out at you at the moment, though.

> Scan through those Documents
>Look for documents that seem to involve town affairs.

>Searching through the bookshelves for a bit, you find what seems to be a brief history of the town, compiled by yourself. It's still more in draft form than a completed document, but it still has a list of a number of events in the town's brief history.

>Essentially, it corroborates much of what people had already told you, in more detail. After the great famine during the Year of Winter, the old village was struggling to simply carry on. Shortly thereafter, Kanako arrived with the Moriya Shrine, and promised the villagers bountiful harvests and her protection if they would worship her. The village was soon relocated at the foot of Youkai Mountain, within the heart of Kanako's domain, where she could watch and shelter them more ably. Some people were understandably reluctant to leave their ancestral homes at first, but times were grim and Kanako offered much and asked comparatively little in return. And with the Hakurei Shrine vanished, there was no other spiritual center for the humans living here.

>There were several waves of migration. Many people left eagerly with whatever they could quickly transport. Some tried to remain in the village, but it became increasingly hard to sustain a life there as more people left. The new village was constructed quickly, with some assistance from the kappa in terms of tools and materials, and Kanako's divine powers blessing their endeavors. Since the Moriya Shrine itself was at the summit of the mountain, and difficult for the humans to reach, a branch shrine was established in the village. Evidently, the head Moriya shrine maiden holds ceremonies there on a regular basis, as something of a liaison with the village.

>Although relations with the nearby youkai are still not essentially close, they're friendlier than they would have been in time's past. Kanako ensures that humans are protected from hostile youkai, and has tried to foster co-operation between those who dwell in her domain. With her help, kappa technology is becoming increasingly common in the human settlement, and she appears to be highly motivated to industrialize Gensokyo, as best she can with the available resources.

>Consider time, would there be enough time to get to Rumia and to school without an unreasonable delay on the latter.

>Feel satisfied with this explanation.

>Well, it's always nice to have hearsay corroborated with detailed records. And really, if you can't trust yourself, who can you trust? That still leaves quite a few bits of history unexplained, but at least this corner of Gensokyo seems accounted for.

>Consider time, would there be enough time to get to Rumia and to school without an unreasonable delay on the latter.

>You're pretty sure you have enough time for this

>You gather up a few more bits of food for Rumia and head out, making sure not to forget your keys in the process.
>After a few minutes, you arrive back at the woods you dropped her off at. You don't immediately see her. Hopefully she hasn't wandered off too far...

There was something here once. Wonder what...

>"Rumia? Are you there? I brought you a snack!"

>"Yay!" Her voice seems quiet at first, but rises steadily in volume as she apparently zooms closer, while sustaining that one note. You finally catch sight of her, practically dive-bombing at you from high in one of the trees.

>Be ready to sidestep if she maintains velocity.

>You move out of the way as Rumia zooms towards you, not certain whether the impact would be good for your solar plexus. She does seem to slow down as she gets close, but still overshoots you and ends up taking a tumble in the grass. Still, this doesn't seem to phase her too much, and she leaps back to her feet with a smile. A somewhat dirt-stained smile, but still...

>You consider asking Rumia to remain out here for another part of the afternoon, but in addition to the issue of her possibly getting bored and wandering off, you feel bad about forcing her to stay out there when she's been nothing but innocently cheerful for most of the day.

>"I guess so...." Then her eyes light up as an idea forms. "Do you have hamburgers there?"

>"Ok!"
>You head back towards your house, and try to keep a low profile. This is harder than it was earlier, considering a lot more people are up and about, now, but it helps that you live in the outskirts. You manage to get back to your house without anyone seeing you from close enough to really identify Rumia.
