>Do we know the voice?

>Not well, but you think it's one of the village farmers. Ichirou? It might help if you could turn to see him, but you're currently wedged in the window, and unable to twist to see anything outside of the house itself.

>"Sorry, it's just funny seeing someone try to break into their own house. And don't worry, your modesty is still fully preserved. Your dignity on the other hand..." He laughs again. "Ah, don't mind me. Need a hand?"

>"Sure thing."
>You hear footsteps, and then feel him grab your legs firmly and push. You try to pull yourself forward with your arms at the same time, and soon land on the floor beneath the window in an unceremonious heap. Owww... your side hurts. But that probably could have been worse.

>"Aww... you're always too serious, you know that? But... ok, fine. See ya around!"  He smiles and waves goodbye to you and continues onto wherever he was going in the first place. You collect yourself and stand up, again.

>You appear to be in a dining area. There's a reasonably sized table here, and a small cabinet with some dishes. You recognize some of decor in the room. Mostly smaller objects that were not among the things left behind in your old abandoned home. The kitchen appears to be off to one side, and another doorway leads east.

>"Have a good day!"
>Fix the window.

>You wave goodbye then retrieve the screen from the ground outside, and pop it back into place. There, good as new!

>Once this is done, roam the house, look for signs that anyone was here recently.

>The dining area looks tidy and well-cared for, although no signs that anyone was just eating or sitting there. The kitchen is in similar condition, although there is fresh fruit in the pantry, implying that it hasn't been there too long, at least. You move past the dining area into a hallways, and past that into a bedroom. The bed appears to be neatly made since the last time it was slept in, at any rate. You can, again, see a couple decorating touches that you recognize. Finally, you move into the study. On the writing desk is a document in your own handwriting. It stops abruptly in mid-character. A writing brush lies discarded atop the paper, the ink from it having made a large messy blob underneath it. It appears to be dry, now.

>Recap it.
>"Guess you did disappear. Oh well."

>You put the cap back on the ink bottle, and sigh at your apparently vanished counterpart. Despite all the pronoun difficulties it might have entailed, it really would be a rare opportunity to get to meet 'yourself'. You wonder what kind of a person you might have been, here....

>Look around for a key, this is our house now.

>On a hunch, you pull out the top-left desk drawer, where you usually kept your keys at home. Success! Almost makes you feel like a mind reader of sorts. The keyring has a number of keys on it. You don't know what they're all for, but there's a very good chance that one of them works on the door, here. You pocket them.

>Also consider some Rumia snacks.

>There appeared to be plenty of food of different kinds in the pantry, when you scanned the place. You don't really know what kind of food she prefers (other than human...), but you think you could probably find her something she'd be willing to eat, at any rate.

>Get some bread. Everyone likes bread.

>You head back to the pantry and easily find some bread. It's quite fresh, too. You take some for Rumia, and much on a bit, yourself. Wow, you hadn't realized how hungry you were until you finally bit into something.

>Look around the house for anything else of interest. Or signs of Mokou.

>You go back and scan the rest of the house for things of interest. You find a variety of minutia, but not too much that stands out at first. You notice an odd small box on the table next to your dresser with large red lights in the shape of numbers on it. And another object which kind of reminds you of a lantern, but not quite. The glass enclosure is smaller, and there appears to be nothing in it to light. Just a small coil of wire. There seems to be a couple more objects like this in the other rooms of the house, as well.

>Your study is the least spartan of any of the rooms in the house, as usual. The bookcases are filled with titles you remember well. It seems that your collection was one of the things you made sure to entirely transport from the old village. This doesn't surprise you terribly. If you could only take one thing, this would be it. Furniture is replaceable, but some of these documents are literally one of a kind.
>You do notice a number of absences, though. Books you acquired after the Spring Snow Incident, and quite a few that you wrote yourself. You guess you didn't have as much chance to take time to do that, here. There appear to also be recent school records and other administrative documents. And some historical accounts dated more recently, as well.

>You rifle through the desk. Aside from the regular clutter you might expect to find in one, you locate two more spellcards, and a diary. The dairy was in the bottom of the bottom drawer, under a great deal of other stuff. It also appears to be locked.

>Sadly, you find no indication that Mokou was ever here. Of course, she didn't necessarily have a lot of stuff that she carted around with here, but still... You really wouldn't mind just laying up against her, right now... maybe fall asleep in her arms.

>Did we keep any portraits or anything of her around back home?
>If so, anything like that around?

>You tried to convince Mokou to pose for one of you together, a couple times, but she never seemed too keen on the idea. Said she didn't go for all that sentimental stuff. You're pretty sure she was just fronting for feeling embarrassed about it, though. There were a few mementos she gave you over the years, but you don't see any of them around. Or any spare change of her clothes, which she often kept at your place.

>Check the keyring for a likely diary key. If there is one, we have some reading to do.

>Unfortunately, none of the keys you have seen to be the right size or shape

>Have some of that fruit, too.

>You sit down and bite into an orange. Fresh and juicy!

>Contemplate removing the lock from the cover. Discard this idea of book desecration at once!

>It shouldn't be too hard with determined effort. It's pretty solidly constructed for a lock of this type, but it's still just a dairy lock. You could saw through it with the proper tool. You might even be able to carve the cover out around it and slip the lock off. You cringe at the idea of taking cutting implements to a poor defenseless book....

>Check around the desk. We couldn't make too much of a pain to get at, or we'd never update the thing.

>You search through the desk in a more comprehensive fashion. Then under the desk. And behind the desk. You still don't see anything resembling a key. And, for the most part, the study is kept quite tidy.

> Examine Spellcards

>Including the two new ones you just acquired, you now possess:

>Spiritual Birth "First Pyramid"
>Creates familiars which orbit the caster and spray bullets in an intricate pattern, while ocassionally launching targeted energy blasts, forcing the enemy into the denser parts of the pattern to evade them.

>Origin Sign "Ephemerality 137"
>Repeatedly launches clusters of familiars which explode into a spray of bullets upon contact with any solid object.

>Land Sign "Three Sacred Treasures - Mirror"
>Sends out spreads of orbs, accompanied by a cascading sprays of bullets which fan out, and then return, attempting to box the target in from all sides.

>Ending Sign "Phantasmal Emperor"
>Creates several rotating arrays of familiars which fire an interlocking pattern of lasers, while launching concentric rings of projectiles from yourself. Creates a dense omnidirectional pattern to navigate, but limits your own movement.

>Future "The Next History of Phantasm"
>Uses familiars to create a web of interlocking bullets, and then launches an intense spray of larger bullets which curve to track enemies. Very powerful, but you lack the capacity to use this outside of Hakutaku form

> Check the bedroom
>Curse our own cleverness. Check around the bedroom. Nightstands and all that. Perhaps we wrote in it in bed and replaced it in the morning.

>You check around anything in the bedroom that could possibly be concealing the key. Fortunately, you don't have a very cluttered house. Other than the usual clothes and such, you find a few to-do notes to yourself, and a small purse with some money in it. No sign of a key, however.

>You take the purse. There seems to be 2350 yen in here.

>You read the notes:

>One seems to be a grocery list, reminding you to pick up pears, daikon, and salad greens.
>Another is a reminder to find an interim assistant teacher while Yumiko is on maternity leave.
>A third seems to be shorthand reminders about some school topic. Possibly things to include on an upcoming quiz.
>The last is a generic reminder about festival preparations. You're not sure what festival it's referring to, or what you're even supposed to be doing to prepare for it

>Do we know a Yumiko?

>Yes. She was a fairly bright student of yours at one point. Would probably be in her early to mid twenties, now. It's always easy to remember the good ones. And the bad ones, unfortunately.... But she never taught anything, although when you stop to think of it, she would probably have been capable of it. Last you knew, she was helping out with the family business.
