> "Thank you" Dink the tea

>You accept the mug and take a sip. It's quite good, actually!
>"I'm glad you like it," she says, noting your reaction. She stirs the soup, takes a small sample and seems to decide it's warm enough. She starts to spoon out a bowl for you. "I already had some earlier, but I think I might have a second helping. Would you like some mochi, too?"

> Hmm, maybe she was the person you were investigation in the forest

>You really didn't get a good look at her, at the time. The light was poor, and there were trees in the way. She sounded younger, though, and she was certainly wearing a different style of clothing. Western, rather than Eastern.

>Consider former humans.

>You try to enumerate youkai who you knew to be formerly human. It's a pretty short list, really. She doesn't look anything like Alice, at least.  And given how much the village resembles the village you knew, you have your doubts that the distant past was altered in any fundamental way. Even small changes that far back can have cascading consequences on the present. You probably wouldn't even recognize the place.

> "Oh yes I would like to have some thank you"

>You accept her offer of mochi, and after she puts out the two bowls of soup, she fetches the plate of them and puts it on the table. She starts to dig into her own bowl with gusto.

> The change must have happened in the somewhat recent past to make things like this, perhaps something happened to Reimu? Perhaps the Shrines disappearance has something to do with this?

>You consider events that might have led to the present being altered. Certainly the shrine's absence cannot be unrelated. If Reimu had disappeared, many events would certainly have unfolded differently. Of course, for all you know, the shrine disappeared yesterday. You'd need to narrow down a history of events to be sure. Interestingly, despite the shrine not even seeming to exist there anymore, Gensokyo doesn't seem to have imploded, and what you could see of the Border from there looked perfectly normal. Maybe the shrine wasn't as essential to the border's stability as people thought? It would probably be best if certain youkai never learned of this...

> Inquire about the Moriya Shrine

>"I did go there once. It's a fairly ostentatious place, although the view is breathtaking. I offered a small donation and said a prayer, with the other worshipers. The shrine maiden offered me Kanako's blessing as a pilgrim. I accepted her good will, but I do not worship her. But I am glad that she brings comfort and safety to others."

> (sigh) Inquire about the scarlet mist incident, the Mansion in the middle of the lake, the abnormally long winter, people in the bamboo forest, the Scarlet Weather incident and the UFO's

>You decide to get as much history out of Shiouko as you can manage, going through notable events one after another.

>"Scarlet mist? I... don't think I've ever seen such a thing. There is a mansion by the lake, but it looked guarded, and I was never invited. I don't know who lives inside."
>"I've never heard of anyone living the bamboo forest. Other than the rabbits, of course. Wouldn't people have a hard time finding their own homes, if they lived in such a place?"
>"What exactly would scarlet weather look like, anyway? Is that about that mist again? I don't think I know what a UFO is, either... You seem to think about a lot of unusual things."

>"As for the winter.... Well, I didn't experience it myself, but... I think I may have heard of it." She looks very uncomfortable, for some reason.

>"Well, alright. Do you know much of, well, anyone here? Aside from Hina, that is?"

>"Well, it's just the two of us who live here. The occasional visitor wanders by. I used to travel around, but I haven't seen many other people since I decided to call this place home."

>Where did we leave Rumia, anyways?

>You parted ways towards the eastern outskirts of the village. She wasn't there when you went back, but she's probably just wandering around in another part of the village. It mightn't be hard to find her if you took some time to look around.

> Misery? there weren't much misery when that happened from what you remember, something definitely happened between the Scarlet Mist Incident and the Winter Incident, probably something to Reimu, Marisa and/or Sakuya
>Long winter and short growing season? That's hell on the food stores. Misery aplenty.
> Yeah but Reimu, Marisa and Sakuya stop it before it got to troublesome, didn't they?

>You recall food stores getting disconcertingly thin during the incident. And you were forced to eat way, way too much millet. Ugh. But you're not sure you would have described it as misery. Just a bit unpleasant. But if it had gone on longer....

> Finish soup, and thank her for her hospitality, we need to go find Rumia then go to the Scarlet Devil Mansion, we could probably find out what changed there

>You finish up the soup and munch on some mochi. It's all quite good. Shiouko has at least as much as you. Afterwards you bid her farewell.  "I hope you can find whatever you're looking for," she adds helpfully as you part ways.

>You are in the market center of the village. Your home is northwest. The Hieda estate is east. Your school is south. The graveyard is northeast, past the village outskirts.

>You have no idea where Rumia would be. You're not even sure she realizes you're connected to the school. But any direction is as good as any other at the moment. You head southward
>You come near the school again. It's still kinda painful seeing it in this state. The east end is collapsed, and parts of it are rubble. There are blast marks and similar damage to nearby buildings. It really looks like there was a battle of some kind, here, and no one bothered to repair anything afterward.

>Call for Rumia.

>You call out after Rumia, but don't get a response.

>Consider the graveyard, where roving Hinas might be hanging out.

>You decide to head northeast, and cover some parts of the village that you haven't yet looked at. It might be useful to talk to Hina, if she does indeed live here, now. You wonder what might be brought her here. You're almost not sure you want to look at the graveyard. Even as a chaser of history, there are some things you wonder if you'd rather not know. Still, you realize that you probably can't afford to ignore any source of information, no matter how much you wish reality might be different. Besides, don't you intend to MAKE reality different? There must be some way to fix things....
>You wander through the village, keeping an eye out for mobile spheres of darkness. You enter the northern section of the village. You think you may be able to hear something to your east, a little ways. You're not sure what it is.

> "Just a little bit now, I was wondering if you's like to go to the Mansion at the lake with me?"

>"Hmmm.... the lake's kinda pretty at night. Sure!"

> What can we do about getting more spellcards?

>That's a good question. You only have two on you that you're even able to use at the moment. The note from yourself suggests that the 'you' of this timeline left to go somewhere else. It's possible you have a stockpile at... wherever that is. You might also be able to scribe a few more yourself, if you had time and the appropriate supplies.

>Let's hit up that Graveyard first. The brown-haired girl said Hina honored the graves and all that jazz. And Hina would have to be a decent font of information.

>You decide to check out the graveyard before leaving for the mansion. As you head northward, Rumia bobs after you, humming quietly to herself.
>"The lake's not this way," Rumia adds helpfully after a couple minutes, but keeps pace with you anyway.

>You are past the northern outskirts of the village. Abandoned farmland stretches into the north as far as you can see in this light. The graveyard is a little further to the northeast. You can see the silhouettes of some of the grave markers from here. There... seems to be more of them than you remember.
